Keem / Carti are so hot rn I'd have concerns about stage capacity at the What
can we discuss this take? they're popular but saying that the what field wouldn't be able to handle them is nuts
er, capacity isnt the right word. I guess I'd be concerned for crowd crush? Idk I was worried about crowd crush at lyrical lemonade this year with Yeat and Carti same day but I guess they were fine.
Carti kids are rabid and keem would just be the icing on the cake.
Muna is objectively a good clue too, their album from this year is making a bunch of year-end lists from a variety of publications
Don’t think it’s fair to call that lackluster even if it doesn’t necessarily do it for you
To your point Griz is also a good clue for the masses since a lot of people like him. With that being said the only thing that matters to me is if I like the artist in the clue's. I don't care if they build hype or whatever else.
sounds like a personal problem, imo
Muna is critically acclaimed up-and-coming band that just dropped the best album of their career. That’s exactly the kind of band that I want Bonnaroo booking on the middle lines.
I don’t expect the Roo clues to be earth-shattering but an act like Muna is basically best-case scenario

To me tho Roo clues are suppose to drive the hype and make people buy pre-sale tickets. How does having somebody like Destroy Lonely as the last clue drive people to purchase tickets. It doesn’t. They must think they have a great lineup cause their obviously not too worried about selling presale tickets.

yeah i give some credence to that. at risk of generalizing though, i don't think the same crowd that is going to see those guys at lyrical lemonade or their solo shows (or rolling loud) would be at roo

Obviously it's a personal problem I never said it wasn't. But for you I'm glad you're happy about Midna.
Once again. Wtf is the bar over there? Last clue of the season is basically a no name. Thanks for the hype
So far we have roo clues for EDM fans (GRiZ), indie fans (GiR), pop fans (Rina, MUNA), and jam fans (Corey Wong / Vulfpeck). DestroyLonely isn't rly a no name and we hadnt gotten a rap roo clue yet.
I think DestroyLonely drums up a bit more hype from rap fans than a Yung Gravy Roo clue would. Roo is always skimping on rap anyways so besides the headliner I never expect much in that department.

I don’t think he drives a lot of hype imo. If I was Roo and wanted to sell a lot of tickets prior to lineup drop I would have clues with decent size names that a lot of people know. Because once that lineup comes out that’s it. Either you like it or not. But if you hear 5-6 names that you like you would probably be more enticed to buy prior to lineup drop to save money thinking the lineup is going to be good for you.

Roo Clue 2023 Ratings
Griz - 7 / 10
Absolute high score I can give for something I give no fucks about whatsoever. They know what the Reddit types want, started with something that would get the largest amount of ppl that actually could be paying attention to Roo clues hyped.
Muna - 7
They seem fun. Like them more than Griz and could very easily see myself attending. Haven’t really seen many people get excited about this though. Mostly people don’t know them. I think Muna in combination with a couple of the others is a good sign for us maybe getting more pop and more female artists?
Corey Wong - 3
Is it a redeeming quality that people are wondering if this includes Vulfpeck? I’m going with “no”. It’s either massively throwing water on what would be hype for Vulfpeck (similar to Griz) by not just making it Vulfpeck… if they are actually on the lineup. If they aren’t on the lineup I might drop this puppy from a 3 to a 0. This still kinda gets some love from Reddit it seems, but Im not boosting scores for that shit unless it’s a total home run in that sense like Griz. Stupid ass clue.
Rina Sawayama - 7.5
Artist with 1 extremely well received EP, 1 well received album… in a genre that Roo usually fails to produce in. I like it in concert with Muna. Feels like a promising booking. But the most recent album is mostly what she plays at shows and it seems like that one was universally understood as being a monster step down from the first album. Even with that, I’m almost certain I’ll be there.
Girl in Red - 3
This one is uniquely painful because I always picture the two dudes that book Roo having “good music” bookings and “popular music” bookings. And my guess is that this is one they think they crushed for Inforoo types and that it’s taking up a “good” slot. Whereas… we knew there would be some Corey wong bullshit on every lineup but there’s usually some… Girl in Red?… to even it out.
Destroy Lonely - 1
Gave the 1 point because it has some people thinking about Carti. Gotta move it to a 0 if Carti isn’t on the lineup. I’d almost bet that zero of the humans that end up at this show are currently following Roo Clues and rumors. Album is critically panned from what I can see and also he’s not that popular and this was the send off clue.

Destroy Lonely definitely feels like one of those bookings where live nation or whatever has some stake in making an artist a “thing” so they put him on the big festival lineups in hope of drumming up hype
A quick search shows he’s playing ~1500 capacity theaters on his tour next month and there are lots of tickets available for most of them which doesn’t really suggest he’s more popular than we think

Roo is conflicting because, on one hand, I loved this year’s lineup but on the other, I realize the festival is just going to die if it continues to book like that. I’m hoping for something like 2019 as that seems to be a good mix of stuff that sells and stuff for the people that can be snobby at times like me lol
What even is the logic for the clue being destroy lonely
I think roo clues are just LN casting a wide net to capture attention in as many fanbases as possible, and fans of Opium/Carti are a hot rap demographic rn. Also hints at potential lineup depth I guess?
