I’d be hype for Kendrick Keem and Carti all on the top line, but it’d be interesting to lean on rap as the big names again after such a poor year ticket-sales wise. Especially when 2020 was the quickest sellout ever without a single rapper in the top 9
2020 had Tyler and Meg and a super deep undergound hiphop undercard. Also seeing how profitable rolling loud is, I wouldnt be surprised if this is the norm in the coming years.
you might be thinking of 2021, 2020 had Meg but no Tyler. Top billed rappers were RTJ, Thug, Meg and Dababy in that order, all second line

Thats what I'm thinking too, but then I think about how Cole/21/Roddy were all top line last year and nobody batted an eye. Am I being hyper critical because Kendrick / Keem / Carti are leagues better than Cole / 21 / Roddy while still costing a potentially similar budget? 21 has 51 mil monthly listeners and Roddy has 21, while Carti and Keem are only pulling 16 mil each but they both feel like they are way bigger than 21 / Roddy
I love Cole but his live shows arn't that great and his more of a hiphop purist with not to many hit / party songs. So I get why people weren't excited. Also same issue with Tool last year, they dont have much crossover fans nor hits. I think Stevie sold the most tix at least from the people I spoke to at Roo.
Roddy Rich was a weird pick and super overbilled. He had one HUGE song and thats been kinda it.
21 people love and had one of the biggest crowds of last year. Im willing to bet more people were excited for him than Cole.
On the topic of Kendrick, he a ton of crossover from "real" hip hop fans and pop heads also. Also I would consider him the best of his genre, ever. Keem makes fun pop hip hop and kinda reminds me of 2017 Post Malone.
Carti has a cult fanbase and insane live show. It felt like he had the biggest non-headliner crowd of Rolling Loud Miami. Even if you don't like his music. The show is a spectacle. He's kinda like a non-corprate Travis Scott in terms of performance.

Ahh my mistake. Crazy Dababy was even billed that high. He had a show in Chicago a few months ago at a small venue and tickets didnt sell out, even after a BOGO offer.

Watching the stream of Carti at Rolling Loud NY 2021 in the rain was incredible. Not really a fan of his music but you're spot on for saying his show is a spectacle.

DaBaby was huge in 2020
He fell off big when people realized all his songs were exactly the same and that he’s a piece of shit
Shit even in 2021 he was supposed to be #2 on his day at Lollapalooza until they dropped him for saying homophobic shit
i feel the destroy lonely clue is not as bad as everyone here thinks but it’s not great. destroy is HUGE is the more “underground” rap scenes because of the opium/carti/vamp diehards, so it’s not an awful choice; HOWEVER, i feel like the majority of people that attend roo are not this demographic so all the “veterans” are not too happy about this, but it could be roo’s attempt to attract a different demographic for more sales.
i personally like the opium music and listen to it occasionally, but there are other people i’d go see over him if there is overlap at roo. i don’t have to be there

To your point Griz is also a good clue for the masses since a lot of people like him. With that being said the only thing that matters to me is if I like the artist in the clue's. I don't care if they build hype or whatever else.
sounds like a personal problem, imo
Muna is critically acclaimed up-and-coming band that just dropped the best album of their career. That’s exactly the kind of band that I want Bonnaroo booking on the middle lines.
I don’t expect the Roo clues to be earth-shattering but an act like Muna is basically best-case scenario
I don't want to live in a universe where a knockoff HAIM is a best case scenario of anything...
I'm all about celebrating queer excellence, but queer mediocrity???
My wife and I really didn’t like Knives Out. Up until this point we felt alone in the world. Thank you
I didn’t care for it either. It wasn’t bad it just wasn’t really anything special to me.
This. This fuckin’ sentence is it! Knives Out was so hyped to me by my circle, and when I was hangin’ out with one of my best friends fer on a beach trip he was flabbergasted that I hadn’t seen it. So we sat down and watched the film. I didn’t hate it, but I wasn’t very entertained by it either. It was just kinda a thing I watched on TV fer some two hours, and then it was over.
