That chella lineup does nothing for me. I'll take Roos all day this year and that's saying something.
lol
Haha I don’t go to Coachella so I wouldn’t really have a good idea as to how much you could conceivably wander and see. It’s a lot more acts and deeper of a lineup and better. I don’t care for the top 4. And there’s plenty of acts I wouldn’t see. There are plenty more I would. But since they broadcast on 3 channels, I’ll be vegging Friday to Sunday pretty much like every year.

Couchella is one of my favorite weekends of the year no doubt 😂
Coachella's lineup - aside from the undercard being incongruously ordered - doesn't make me feel much one way or the other, which is rare. Usually I'm eyeballing it and mad that they got something none of the other fests I might go to got. Not really the case this year. The closest it gets is Danny Elfman and Jamie XX.

Coachella always has an overall deeper, better lineup. That undercard is fantastic, but I much prefer Bonnaroo’s headliners this year.
Bonnaroo has their own advantage with music going until sunrise, less overlap, and longer sets (of course, fewer artists and the quality drops off comparatively). If these two festivals could merge strengths…we’d basically have Glastonbury.
I personally kind of feel the Coachella lineup is the inverse of Bonnaroo’s. Solid headliners on all three nights for their demographic, but it kind of quickly falls off not far down the list with some good names sprinkled in. I think both are on par overall, it’s just tough to book all around in 2022.

ok after reading various comments i wanted to do a subjective-ish breakdown of coachella vs bonnaroo. These are the acts I'm interested in without homework.
Bonnaroo headliners: Tool, Stevie Nicks
Coachella headliners: Harry Styles, Billie Eilish, Ye
Objectively, the Coachella headliners are much bigger, more popular, more expensive names than Bonnaroo's. Subjectively I prefer Coachella's, just because a festival is the place I'd see Harry Styles or Billie Eilish. But the only headliners from either I'm somewhat passionate about seeing are Tool and Kanye. But I understand someone not wanting to support Kanye because of all his bullshit. Tool I love but have seen many times before and will see many times again, though it'd be super cool to see them on the What. I have no idea how Stevie Nicks is live but I'd definitely check her out at a festival.
Bonnaroo undercard (28): Sons of Kemet, VNSSA, Weval, Plant & Krauss, Disclosure, King Gizz, Goose, Bleachers, Isaiah Rashad, Lane 8, Denzel Curry, Japanese Breakfast, John Summit, LP Giobbi, Billy Strings, Suicideboys, Ludacris, Chris Lake, 100 Gecs, Nora En Pure, Slowthai, Femi Kuti, Rezz, Herbie Hancock, Puscifer, All Them Witches, Tierra Whack, Lettuce.
Coachella undercard (44): Lil Baby, Baby Keem, King Gizz, Lane 8, Peggy Gou, Carly Rae Jepsen, Spiritualized, Daphni, slowthai, the Avalanches, Purple Disco Machine, John Summit, Code Orange, Megan thee Stallion, Disclosure, Isaiah Rashad, Caribou, Dixon, Turnstile, 100 gecs, Hot Chip, DJ Koze, Floating Points, Steve Lacy, Japanese Breakfast, Richie Hawtin, black midi, Chris Liebing, ANNA, VNSSA, Mannequin Pussy, Sama, DJ Holographic, Doja Cat, Jamie xx, RTJ, Fatboy Slim, Solomun, Denzel Curry, Vince Staples, Orville Peck, the Blessed Madonna, Honey Dijon, Channel Tres.
Acts in bold above are shared with Bonnaroo (9).
so Coachella wins on headliners for me but mostly because of Harry and Billie who I'm interested in seeing, not super passionate about seeing. Coachella wins on the undercard, but primarily because of the electronic (Yuma?) acts. So my initial impression was heavily influenced by my disposition towards techno/house.
and given that disposition i'd likely just be at the yuma all day no matter what, and would miss some of the non-electronic acts, so essentially coachella would turn into a more expensive movement but with crazy production. which sounds cool honestly, but not as cool as seeing all that techno and a bunch of other stuff.
so i still prefer coachella, but i understand better now that if popular pop headliners aren't your thing, and techno isn't your focus, you might prefer the bonnaroo lineup.

Regarding Kanye vs. Tool. Setting aside Kanye's bullshit, the Kanye set is more high risk / high reward. If he does it right it could be a huge show. If he phones it in or rants a lot it could be lame. Tool on the other hand will play a Tool set, which is pretty much guaranteed to be awesome, and their setlist from the tour opener was interesting. Not as awesome as the best Kanye show, but again risk/reward.

As much as I’d rather have Doja or Meg or like anyone else over MGK, the name that hurts me to see the most on Coachella’s lineup is Hot Chip 😭 Bucket list act for me rn.
If we could have got Idles , The Avalanches , Jamie xx , Caribou , Ducksauce, and RTJ would have been cool. Also Doja over Mgk would have def been ideal. Coachella always is going to have a great electronic lineup and the hip ish. Maybe one day I’ll go to Coachella but probably not. Nc to Cali is a trip. Here’s to hoping Ye plays Gov Ball.
The only two I'm really jealous of is PUP and Danny Elfman. We're overdue for a hardcore punk band, and it would be so cool to have some sort of orchestral setup at Roo. It's got to be a logistical nightmare, but doing something like what Hans Zimmer did at Coachella a while back.

Elfman and Billie on the same day is going to be cool too. You know she’ll be going out to sing on some Nightmare before Xmas songs

Coachella Acts that would have made my Top 5 Most Anticipated at Bonnaroo (bolded acts would be my #1 at Roo):
Kanye West, Spiritualized, The Avalanches, Caribou, Jamie xx, Run The Jewels, Freddie Gibbs and Madlib, Hot Chip, DJ Koze, Black Midi, Floating Points, Danny Elfman, Disclosure, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, 100 Gecs, Idles, Carly Rae Jepsen, Purple Disco Machine, Denzel Curry, Kim Petras, the Blessed Madonna, Griselda
So my #1 at Bonnaroo and 7 others that I clearly want to see more than Disclosure. Also contains 4 of my actual Roo top 5. 22 acts that would be Top 5 at Roo for me.
Additional Coachella Acts that would land in my top 15 at Bonanroo:

would also love to go to Coachella some day, but i'm not sure what a lineup looks like that gets me scrambling for a ticket, accommodations, and flying from Alabama. would have to be some super rare act and i'm not sure what that act is anymore. like the smiths or talking heads, stuff that will never happen.
if it was like a seven hour drive like bonnaroo is for me i'd be there every year.

Agree completely! So much of why I attend Roo is the convenience of location. For a few hours after the Bonnaroo lineup dropped I was trying to look into attending Coachella and got super overwhelmed trying to "figure out" a new festival again. I didn't even realize you could camp, but I don't know that I'd wanna fly with all my camping gear... the lineups are of course, always super tasty though.

If it was Ye - Frank - ? I would have thought about it but I just can’t justify doing one fest for the price I could do 2-3 fests. Thank Roo for being driving distance from me.

For me it’s Portishead, but there would have to be a lot of other stuff we like on it to convince my wife to go and she’d still say no.
