would also love to go to Coachella some day, but i'm not sure what a lineup looks like that gets me scrambling for a ticket, accommodations, and flying from Alabama. would have to be some super rare act and i'm not sure what that act is anymore. like the smiths or talking heads, stuff that will never happen.
if it was like a seven hour drive like bonnaroo is for me i'd be there every year.
For me it’s Portishead, but they’re have to be a lot of other stuff we like on it to convince my wife to go and she’d still say no.
i'd fucking love to see portishead, but i'd prefer to see them in a theater. i'd get on a plane for that, and my wife probably would to.
maybe we could double date a portishead theater show in NYC one day.

see, its the opposite for me. since all you can do is camp at Bonnaroo, coming from the northeast is a pain - it means a 14+ hour drive hauling everything. whereas with Coachella, I can take a flight, and either grab a campervan in LA or just stay at a house/hotel. it's so much more convenient.

I'm 31 and I feel 101 looking at this Coachella line-up. Am I out of touch? No, it's the kids that are wrong!
Insert Skinner GIF here.
I do like a lot of bands on their line-up, especially the punk/metal acts, Roo seems to have been shying away from those types the last few years, that late Mastadon addition last year gives me some hope though.

Trey's first set in 2004 was conducting the Nashville symphony
i've never listened to this set. just checked livephish+ and it's on there, listening for the first time now.
we left that year after david byrne. i think we were tired enough to convince ourselves we weren't interested in trey band.
We spent the morning getting unstuck from mud. Watched this set from the roof of the car, parked right behind the what field fence. I'd have rather been in centeroo but we too were absolutely wiped.

You can stay in hotels or airbnb. That’s how we were going to do it in 20. Mayo and co. do it.

that makes sense.
but i always stay in Murfreesboro for bonnaroo and day park, which makes the trip pretty easy, just hop in the car thursday morning and i'm there in 7 hours.
not drinking helps, but i understand for most people a 30 minute drive on the TN interstate at 3am isn't an option.

With Doja Cat and Megan The Stallion being on every festival lineup I've seen in the past year, it continues to boggle my mind that Roo went with MGK instead.

This looks like $3k+ to me. Is that wrong?
round trip flights are less than 1k, usually, and the campervan cost less than 400 for the whole weekend. obviously its more expensive if you want a nice house, but i had hotel rooms reserved for this year for like 130 each or something

Coachella would be really fun. Better headliners and undercard for me and not going to act like I wish the lineups weren't flipped. I'll make it out there one year.
The one thing Roo probably does a consistently better of in terms of booking is the Jazz (I might be missing it on the Coachella lineup) and traditional country/bluegrass.
Like some folks. Packing up a car and driving for a half a day is more appealing than packing up a bunch of crap flying out. I'm sure if I were on the other side of the country I'd feel the same. Roo is also closer/easier for my friends. We still get to see good music, drink good beer, and hangout.

That being said I went to Coachella in 2012 and found the overall vibe pretty weak. The crowd was super rude/shitty. People openly mocked criminally under attended sets from Company Flow and DJ Shadow. I’m glad I was rolling with a crew of 7 because there was NO making friends there. Every time I tried to engage with someone they shot me a look like “ugh!!! why are you talking to me?” That same year I went to Bonnaroo solo because all of my friends backed out. But I had an amazing time. Made a ton of friends that I still keep in contact with to this day. Coachella always has a great lineup and the festival it’s self is beautiful. But I really did not care for the atmosphere.
Side note: I’m sure there’s cool people that go to Coachella. I just didn’t meet any of them.

getting to the end of this Trey band 2004 set, and to me "Push On Till The Day" is still the definitive Bonnaroo song, which despite all my efforts still speaks to me being stuck in bonnaroo's past.
song grooves so hard though. i adore the horns and percussion in this song.
oh well at least i complain about bonnaroo here and not on facebook.
Do we have any contact info for the two guys that book Bonnaroo? I think I need to send them a strongly worded email.
just dm the what podcast guys
I still can’t get over all the dumb tone deaf stuff I heard skipping through that latest what podcast on the lineup
-van Morrison (who’s spent the past few years loudly espousing anti Covid, racist, far right views in his music) is a big miss for Bonnaroo, but -I sure hope the dixie chicks don’t preach to us I’m tired of that shit, but -j Cole sucks because we don’t like misogyny, and -an old southern white guy gatekeeping him using the n-word
And then the rest of it is summed up as “I’m old and don’t get this”
I don't pretend to be up to date on everything, but I can say it's really tough to be spot on with everything in terms of full accuracy when you're just recording a conversation.
We got a few messages in our inboxes about different brief guests calling Tash Sultana she instead of they. The people that called into our podcast just genuinely didn't know that, and I'm sure would respectfully use their right pronouns if they had. When you're just talking off the cuff without a prepared or written speech, it's sometimes tough to be fully on the mark all the time.

Lol really?
he kinda danced around it but I think that was the implication. Basically said “if a rapper doesn’t have any better word to use then don’t say anything at all” (not verbatim)

Oh jesus ever loving christ..... that's some real cornball shit. I guess that's par for the course for them but woof

Are there any rappers who don’t use that word? Like…at all?
