Loving reading all y'all's reviews on the way to the airport. While there were some negatives it sounds like everyone had a magical weekend. Sad I wasn't there with y'all, will have to prioritize 2023 even if the lineup isn't super great.
I also had a magical trip this weekend though, will post about it in the appropriate thread. But if you're reading this and will be in New York sometime in the immediate future go see Beetlejuice, it's the most fun I've had in the theater.
I already reviewed my Friday and Saturday - here is Sunday and my overall top sets.
Sunday’s schedule was set up virtually perfect for me. Virtually no conflicts - only issue was when to eat and rest.
Started with Sierra Farrell who had a lovely set. Great way to start the day. Then excellent sets from All Them Witches, Lettuce. Rested and caught some Tash and Tierra Whack, but then the final run of Puscifer (pit), Herbie and Stevie were a great way to end the fest. Hung out at WiTW for about an hour after.
Overall excellent 3rd Roo, will probably be back next year!
Overall top 21: King Gizzard Superjam Tool Chicks Herbie Plant & Krauss Indigo Desouza All them witches Puscifer Stevie Nicks Noga Erez Daniel Donato Billy Strings Goose Lettuce (all above were absolutely excellent) Weather station Tove Lo Sierra Farrell 100 gecs Chvrches (would be higher but only saw 20 min from far) Nothing
honestly might just be my favorite festival weekend ever for a number of reasons. most notably, i didn’t see anything even close to a bad set, met countless new friends, and met up with some dear friends that i haven’t seen since Roo 2019. of the sets i saw, i don’t think they reach my top 5 ever or anything but damn they were solid and many of them exceeded my expectations even when they were unnecessarily high.
got in around noon on Thursday and set up camp in the god awful heat before meeting up with Capital Cincy and then the aforementioned Roo 2019 friends. met quite a few Inforoo folks over the course of the day with the first of those being Dan808 i believe. the day’s run was Parrotfish > Nothing > The Weather Station > Blu DeTiger > Adam Melchor > Indigo de Souza > Clozee > Sons of Kemet > Gryffin > Role Model with SoK absolutely being my favorite of the day, what a party.
Friday of course started with brunch where i met so many of you lovely people before scurrying away to help make sure camp was alright and ended up having to put everything up bc my campmates had already started pulling shit up. guy who rode with me ended up leaving to stay at a friends apartment in Nash bc he felt bad and ended up flying home Saturday (negative for Covid, was prob dehydrated and exhausted from going to Montana last weekend). anyways, what ensued was an absolutely ridiculous day, specifically late night. the run was Tove Lo > Isaiah Rashad > JBrekkie > TWOD > Bleachers > The Chicks > J. Cole > KGATLW > Goose > Lane 8 with TWOD, KG, and Goose all being 10/10 for me. didn’t make it to sunrise in Centeroo but caught it some at camp and went to sleep listening to Lane 8 finish his set which was nice.
Saturday was another great yet shorter day as I didn’t even make it to any of Chris Lake or Nora En Pure unfortunately. the run was The Backseat Lovers > Lucille Croft > Moore Kismet > Mt. Joy > Chvrches > Billy Strings > Suicideboys > Tool > Porter Robinson > 100 Gecs > Flume with Billy Strings being my top set for sure. so pumped we got all of the crowd pleasers including my favorite in Away From the Mire
Sunday started early with getting rail for Flipturn and turned into a fairly chill but great day with multiple sets caught with great friends. the run was Flipturn > The Aces > Tash Sultana > Nathaniel Rateliff > Zach Bryan > Herbie Hancock > Wallows > Stevie Nicks with Flipturn and Stevie Nicks being my top sets of the day though Stevie probably takes the cake tbh because what a perfect ending.
i’m not sure i can do a properly ranked top 10 right now, so just gonna list my top 10 in no particular order.
Sons of Kemet KGATLW Goose Lane 8 Moore Kismet Billy Strings Flipturn Zach Bryan Tash Sultana Stevie Nicks
main complaints for the weekend are consistent with what others have already said: caught in a terrible line of Friday that left me waiting nearly an hour even after skipping the line with some friends who were up ahead, lack of sanitary devices near bathrooms was frustrating, general lack of bathrooms (though the ones by Who Stage were always clean and reliable for me).
lots of good food, great people, incredible music, and an outpouring of positivity throughout the entire weekend, and i can’t wait to be back. with the way life is going to start going in the fall, im not sure if i’ll be back next year or when my return will be so Sunday was especially sentimental and emotional but i truly cannot complain about the weekend and have no regrets about any of the shows i saw or didn’t see. can’t thank everyone here enough for being so welcoming and wonderful each and every time i saw y’all. until next time in person friends, but im damn sure not leaving this forum!
just realized i left TWOD out of my top 10 when they are absolutely there. probably take out Moore Kismet if i had to choose one to remove

Damn, the more I read this, the more I wish I had had the time, energy, and no storm to contend with to meet y'all. I never felt the lovey dovey radiate positivity vibes from anyone, shared food and drinks to ungrateful neighbors, etc which is a shame after hearing constantly about how great the Roo community was. Overall though, I still had a great time and will be back eventually, though might not make concessions if the lineup isn't as expected.

I also wanted to mention that my first timer friend brought up on her own how well organized everything was. She wished their was a second entrance once she heard us complain about it, but underscored the point for me that the newer folks (who are the majority of attendees) don’t necessarily quibble over the same things we all do.
This was definitely one of my favorite years. The ease of movement to different shows allowed me to see more bands. Everyone I met was friendly. Billy Strings blew me away. His acoustic solos were incredible. His Psychedelic twist was Legendary. I think I was standing behind Vieux at Still Woozy. Just outside the tent left.
Yes you were. That is where I was. Jaz and thejeremy were with me. So was Terry but I don't know his board name.

Totally. There are plenty of wayyyy worse run fests than roo 22. They had to cut costs and overall i think they did it in ways that didn't completely quack over the attendees.
Also if y'all aren't carrying personal hand sanitizer by now at fests what are u doin!
how long did y'all wait to get off the farm on Monday? I don't know if it was because we were in VIP or the traffic people didn't really care, but we ended up driving out from behind the what. go to go through all the artist area, production and staging areas, drive behind the what etc. See a ton of storage sheds full of barricades and old graffitti's centeroo walls and other infrstructure stashed away. it was kind of cool getting to see the behind the scenes areas, and we were out onto the highway in no time, but saw a huuuuge line of people on bushy branch trying to get out the main gate. must have sucked.

We bailed on Sunday because of a combo of my buddy being called into work and wanting to avoid waiting in traffic to leave before a ten hour drive 😅 I hope it was a smart move, I missed a bunch of music I'd have liked to have seen.
Similarly i left Gecs out of mine and they should absolutely be up there.
feel so clean like a money machine
would love to get the stream of that one. we discovered them when going to coachella and we absolutely love them. we watched them on the roo stream and would be cool to have that one to re-watch. i've seen the terminal 5 one just a few times lol

feeling the exact same way about next year, FOMO hitting me hard

What time did y’all leave ? We rolled out around 830 on Monday and were fine. But we were camped by the toll booth entrance

I forgot to mention that I was pretty happy with the sponsors and am surprised to see complaints. I guess some people still wince at the notion that brands exist. But this is the world we live in and Roo didn't sell any tickets this year. I thought most of them added positively to the experience or were connected to things that made enough sense to not be annoying (Bacardi).
I can't imagine anyone complaining about Jack Daniels. They put up a massive shade area that wouldn't have otherwise been there. I would be fine with 30 more "big scary brands" coming in and doing the exact same thing.
Jersey Mike's gave me a free half sub Day 1 and I should have went and got one every day. What they gave me would have costed $6 at a stand (half portion). Again - can't really complain about that.
Lee (jeans company) gave us one of the more cool art displays this year though that's an indictment on Roo's overall art displays.
Bacardi Oasis has been amazing ever since it was introduced and now they sponsor the secondary beach stage which is fine and makes sense.
I didn't go to Dunkin but I think they were giving out donuts and coffee? Awesome.
Allegiant Jam Trak. That thing was worthless but at least they were involved with trying to make the experience better.
I don't really know what the Liquid Death, Hulu, Coke, or M&Ms displays were all about so I can't really comment on those four.
Red Bull just had a new stand and area with umbrellas where they were serving drinks. I'll take 7 extra umbrellas as a W.

I think it's a double edged sword; on one hand, like you said, the things they added were helpful and it sure was nice to have free handouts like that but on the other hand, does it hurt the "individuality"/homegrown aspect of Roo a bit?

The free coffee from Dunkin saved my life on Sunday ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ as did the free Bonnaroo tote from the Toyota booth because I was carrying way too much shit and it was getting irritating. The Tito’s phone charger area was clutch too, and there was a shade structure from Lee as well that gave a nice shaded spot near enough the Which to listen to a show. Brands can be annoying for sure but I thought their Centeroo presences were nice.

festivals can't survive without sponsors anymore, it's an inevitability

That’s probably the aspect of roo I care least about
