I forgot to mention that I was pretty happy with the sponsors and am surprised to see complaints. I guess some people still wince at the notion that brands exist. But this is the world we live in and Roo didn't sell any tickets this year. I thought most of them added positively to the experience or were connected to things that made enough sense to not be annoying (Bacardi).
I can't imagine anyone complaining about Jack Daniels. They put up a massive shade area that wouldn't have otherwise been there. I would be fine with 30 more "big scary brands" coming in and doing the exact same thing.
Jersey Mike's gave me a free half sub Day 1 and I should have went and got one every day. What they gave me would have costed $6 at a stand (half portion). Again - can't really complain about that.
Lee (jeans company) gave us one of the more cool art displays this year though that's an indictment on Roo's overall art displays.
Bacardi Oasis has been amazing ever since it was introduced and now they sponsor the secondary beach stage which is fine and makes sense.
I didn't go to Dunkin but I think they were giving out donuts and coffee? Awesome.
Allegiant Jam Trak. That thing was worthless but at least they were involved with trying to make the experience better.
I don't really know what the Liquid Death, Hulu, Coke, or M&Ms displays were all about so I can't really comment on those four.
Red Bull just had a new stand and area with umbrellas where they were serving drinks. I'll take 7 extra umbrellas as a W.
yeah honestly the corporate shiz didn't really bother me. I ignored most of it just fine (though hearing about the free dunkin' coffee, maybe I should have checked that out a little more). didn't even see the Lee or hulu displays and had no idea what was hapenning when we walked by the M&M display LN, but it was people dancing and lots of lights. seemed fine. I figure that jamtrak was probably the bonnaroo people organizing it and just charging Allegiant to slap their name on it. I'd hope a transportation company could have done better than that (then again, I have flown spirit before so you never know).
I did go check out the liquid death thing and it was actually kinda cool. there was a whole "sell your soul" gimmick (give them an email address) to get in but it was an air conditioned building with free water, seltzers, and cocktails to buy made with their stuff. It was billed as a country club and there was framed art on the walls that was death/horror/morbid type themes. Really cool though, they had a full string quartet in there playing pop arrangments. I was able to hang out in AC and drink free seltzer and listen to some Coldplay and Miley Cyrus played by a string quartet in tuxes and skeleton face paint. wasn't a bad way to spend 20 minutes between sets. kinda felt like the haunted mansion at disney world.
the bacardi stage at where in the woods was fun too - we spent sunday morning dancing in the sand and listening to C'est Funk.
I think if the sponsors can do interesting shiz it's not bad to have them around.

Agreed, Jersey Mike's came in clutch for me and my group many days as did the Jack Daniels tent (I forget what day they were handing out cold towels). M&M's had little mini bags of M&M's you could take. Most of the time I don't even notice the sponsorships unless I "need" them
how long did y'all wait to get off the farm on Monday? I don't know if it was because we were in VIP or the traffic people didn't really care, but we ended up driving out from behind the what. go to go through all the artist area, production and staging areas, drive behind the what etc. See a ton of storage sheds full of barricades and old graffitti's centeroo walls and other infrstructure stashed away. it was kind of cool getting to see the behind the scenes areas, and we were out onto the highway in no time, but saw a huuuuge line of people on bushy branch trying to get out the main gate. must have sucked.
I left about 10am and I think it only took me 30 minutes

We started leaving around 9.30 and got stuck for 45mins before turning around. Didn't even get close to leaving groop camping. At 11.30 we just escaped thru a fence.

red bull was also the only place I found that was actually mixing liquor drinks as well, was happy to find that out pre Gizz

The beach bar had frozen cocktails and mixed drinks.

Had a good time at Bonnaroo this year? Liked the lineup but had ideas for who they could book to make it better? Now is your chance to build your dream festival lineup, in the 5th Annual Music Festival Draft! Signups have just opened up, and anyone is welcome to participate. Head over to the thread and show everyone how superior your music taste is!
I love when sponsors hand out shit like free coffee, sandwiches, kombucha etc. at festivals. I personally don't mind stage names for different brands either but I know that's more of a hot take. I didn't leave Radiohead at Lolla 2016 saying "wow that set was incredible, but I couldn't get over the fact they played the Samsung stage what sellouts"
My biggest complaint about sponsorships is that esteban got Festival Mode on his Tinder account and I didn't.
My middle kid actually met these really cool and very pretty chicks from Indiana off that. Unfortunately that posse was mostly teenagers so he raged a bit with them at some shows but handled himself accordingly.

Agreed. But for the probably $150-200 I spent on Liquid Death this weekend, they should have blown me.
Lol did you catch the airplane on Sunday , I think, flying the ad around for imagine music fest lol?
I remember in the past they used to fly condom ads over the fest
can't remember what song it was but janelle monae went into some sultry song in 2014 and the condom ad flew over the festival and i remember people cheering for it
Lol I forgot I have a ticket for Pusha T tonight. Not ready to stand for an hour plus but I’m super excited.
Haha. I got a call last night about going to see the Melvins who had to cancel due to an emergency from the Ministry/Corrosion of Conformity bill. No chance. But I'm most likely going to see Denzel Curry again on Friday assuming I'm in town.

It’s gonna be rough but worth it. Haven’t since Push since Roo 14 and he’s one of my fav rappers. Def not showing up for the opener though, I don’t have that type of energy today.
one year they flew over and dropped gum attached to parachutes over the What crowd. was wild to see thounsands of little parachutes slowly descending. and getting some free icebreakers or whatever was worth it.

This sounds like a cleanup disaster but also seems really cool and fun

Why on earth would you spend upwards of $200 on liquid death instead of bringing in a water bottle or hydration pack?
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
Since you asked - I've had issues with the taste of water since I was a very young child. We used to go to the MS Gulf Coast a lot for vacation because that's about as far as one of my brothers could travel before geeking out. They used to have what was termed "egg water" there which was water with higher sulfur content than what we had in New Orleans which is nasty river water but heavily, chemically treated. Some of the surrounding cities here also had nasty tasting water. So I pretty much blew off tap at a young age in favor of spring water. I still cook with tap and obviously wash myself with it. But I don't like consuming it unless I'm up in the mountains or more specifically up there in North Carolina where there is much purer water.
I don't know what the source of Bonnaroo's water is. I've had some in the past that tasted bad, but I had heard it had gotten better. I didn't even want to be drinking that quantity of water but for the heat. And once I'm in centeroo, my choice was cans of Liquid Death flat or sparkling. I would totally do a hydration pack if I knew the source or could put the water I want to have in it.
OCD shit, I know. Btw, I hope your symptoms aren't too bad.
on the opposite end of the water spectrum from esteban - on one sunday my buddy was so hot and hungover and dehydrated he wanted only really cold water at camp and just started drinking the melted ice water from the cooler, which had loose hot dogs and shit floating around in it. makes me gag to think about but he just wanted that cold hot dog water.
we actually drank probably about $200 of liquid death too, but it was free. we usually bring a big 10 gallon lowe's water cooler and use that for drinking, washing hands, etc at camp. we asked some dude where to get water after setting up and he said he didn't know and just handed us a bunch of cases and loose cans of liquid death out of the back of his golf cart.
did security make y'all pour out your camelbaks? the first day they told us they had to be empty but I walked in with cold water from the cooler everyday no problem.

Here's my thoughts/review. Had fun hanging out with everyone that I did and had a good time as always.
The Good:
The War on Drugs pit was a lot of fun. Some of my favorite moments of the fest came during Under The Pressure and Red Eyes.
Tool was sick as shit. We got in the pit and the pit "line" situation was ridiculous. Still had fun standing there though because we all talked and just kinda riffed on how bad the organization of it all was. Had one of my/our friends with us who didn't care about Tool at all have a good time. She came over to me after Pnuema and was talking about how good that song was. Missed Spiderwook even though everyone I was around saw him and I somehow missed it. Definitely one of my favorite shows I've seen this year. I liked it so much I bought a shirt after having no plans of buying merch.
Stevie was probably the most fun I've had at Bonnaroo set ever? Mostly to do with us in the crowd and not her. Just everyone getting drunk and having a great time. She was better than the time I saw Fleetwood Mac but she still doesn't sound great. Thankfully she had some backup singers doing the heavy lifting on some high notes but I thought she kinda ruined Dreams lol. I did enjoy her anecdotes about how songs came about or whatnot. Good choice for a Sunday headliner.
Disclosure with everyone was great. Had to leave during Latch unfortunately but it was fantastic otherwise.
The company at camp and other friends camping elsewhere really made this Bonnaroo a lot better then it could've (maybe should've?) been. This one was rough and things kept going wrong for us and me specifically but we really made the best out of the situation. I'd probably say this was still my favorite or second favorite Bonnaroo I've been to and most of that has to do with who I was around. Had I been in worse company I'm not sure I wouldn't left this Bonnaroo having a positive experience.
Misc: Tent fans (amazing), being able to get in the pits so easily, Slowthai, Tinashe, our camp location (equidistant from shakedown and WITW in pod 3, 5 minute walk to the arch), Where in the Woods, sound (other than Flume), production upgrades at all stages, me not getting sick from dust or COVID (still a little early I know), food quality.
The Bad:
I thought the crowds were pretty bad this year at times. I was in multiple pits where people were having full blown conversations. My enjoyment of Chvrches, Herbie (first half before I got to the inforoo peeps) and Flume were all affected because I was around people who wouldn't shut the fuck up. Some others had dead crowds/talking issues like Nothing, Tool, The War on Drugs, The Weather Station, Japanese Breakfast. People were literally cheering because a giant ball got close to the fan and finally popped during Japanese Breakfast. Really bad stuff. Huge L for the "Roo crowds are the best crowds" people.
Me showing up late to brunch and then having to leave because of the storm was a disaster. Wanted to talk to more of you so I'm really am kicking myself for that.
Misc: The heat, storm that finished 4/6 of our ez-ups while we were at brunch, getting out on Monday, getting searched by cops on the highway, the scaling back of bathrooms in Centeroo, overpriced food.
Top 10: 1. Tool
2. The War on Drugs
3. Stevie Nicks
4. Disclosure
5. Slowthai
6. Sons of Kemet
7. The Chicks
8. Tove Lo
9. Tinashe
10. Lane 8
HM: Femi Kuti & The Positive Forces
This will be one of the highlights of my year but, some others have said it also, I do kinda wonder if I've gotten out of Roo what I can. Just did not feel as excited before the fest and throughout the whole time there like I was when I first started going and even into 2019. Like I really can't understate how much my enjoyment during the fest had to do with who I was with. Not saying I won't be back or that I didn't have a good time at all, I definitely will and did. I have a lot of nostalgia for Bonnaroo if absolutely nothing else. Don't know, I need to sit on it a little while longer. I don't think I'm an automatic in for Bonnaroo like I used to be at least. All of what I just said is probably out the window if they actually did book a lineup I was crazy about or even one like they booked in 2021 (before the artists cancellations.)
Also not sure if I'll be back next year anyways because I already plan on trying to do Glastonbury and pulling both seems tough. Who knows though, I may try to swing it even if I show up Thursday or Friday.
Is there even a trace of a Shakedown area anymore? I don't necessarily mean the copious amounts of illegal stuff and pop-up strip clubs like we had in the past but are there areas of non-authorized vendors or people selling a stacks of $1 grill cheese at 4:00 am? That was always half the experience of going to Bonnaroo.

Making a playlist of all the sets I’ve seen at Bonnaroo… and going thru setlist.fm, Spoon premiered Satellite at their 2015 show? That’s so funny, it wasn’t released until their album that came out this year.
Edit- another fun tidbit is KG&LW made the live debut of Robot Stop in 2015 then opened their show this year with it!
