Diving into Stevie rn and If Anyone Falls slaps so hard
I skimmed through a bunch of the 24k Gold tour from right before Covid. That setlist has some great songs, and the band sounded good. Of course Stevie’s not 30 at this point but managed to still sing fairly well. Maybe it’s not the blow away close out shit like Phish was most recently. But it didn’t seem lounge lizard-y really ether. So I could see myself Sunday night finishing shit off, swigging on a couple last beers for the weekend and taking it in from a sing-along perspective. I’m not super-excited about the set but I feel like it might put a decent cap on the weekend.

I feel like it’s going to be a good “let’s all reflect on how great this weekend has been” set. Some hugs given. Some tears shed (by pussies - wont catch me Slippin), all the feels. But not a “the weekend wasn’t complete without this” finish.
E got his ticket yesterday so I figured I might as well get on it. I bought two today and was at Second Line Brewing tonight with C & K and told them that if they went in half’s on a 4th ticket we could all go. K was on the fence because she’s looking to move into the working world since she’s about to get kicked off my insurance in a few months plus student loans would be coming due again around then. She and I got Too Buku level and I think she was down with that lineup since she’s a big Tame Impala fan, digs Flo Milli and loves and has seen Tierra Whack and Kali Uchis and is otherwise down with a bunch of acts. They said yeah let’s do that shit. I hit up the dude who organizes their groop but he told me he was on Oahu for vacation and wasn’t gonna fuck with it until late next week. So we will have to convert camping to that once he sets it up which shouldn’t be an issue. It’s going to be a party.

Haha. Yeah, that’s how I can see it playing out too. But just the same I don’t want to deny that there will probably be parts of the show - say Gypsy, Dreams and Bella Donna, that might be important parts of the sum of the weekend. I don’t expect people to be saying how great it was in the future, but I’m willing to take yeah, that turned out to be a pretty good show.
been listening to king gizz this week, but im becoming attached to this indie stuff off butterfly 3000. Just hoping they play everything! I like the rock stuff too, but this album specifically is really good to me.

This is how I feel about L.W. I want so badly to get elevated and jam the fuck out to “O.N.E.”

Butterfly 3000 snuck in at 10 for my top albums of 2021. It's just a nice, cohesive "progressive pop" album. It seems like any prog albums lean towards the heavier end of things, and this album nicely rides the line between rock and pop. Like classic Gizz meets MGMT? I dunno, just my quick 2 cents

Using python, I scraped a number of music sites to get data on this year's bonnaroo lineup.
I created a whitelist of generic genres: ["jam band", "indie", "folk", "bluegrass", "country", "rock", "indie rock", "punk", "world", "metal", "blues", "rap", "funk", "soul", "electronic", "jazz", "pop", "reggae"]
I scraped Last.fm, RateYourMusic, and Spotify to put together this spreadsheet.
Date Columns:
billing by day artist genre: top last.fm genre that matched with whitelist subgenre: sometimes hyperspecific genre listed by spotify first release: year of their first LP or EP; I didn't include singles to simplify things. so some electronic artists have few/no releases Releases: how many LPs/EPs the artist has Avg. RYM Rating: mean rating of all LPs/EPs Top Rated Release: highest rated LP/EP RYM Rating: rating of top release Last.fm Listeners Scrobbles: how many times a track by the artist has been played (and counted) by last.fm users Spotify Popularity: 0-100 metric developed by spotify - I don't know how they compute this exactly, but it's a relative rating of their popularity compared to other spotify artists Spotify followers: number of followers. I can't pull # of listeners with the API Top Tracks: the top ten tracks on spotify. day
Keep in mind I just scraped the data, I did minimal cleaning after scraping. don't get mad at me for weird genres, ratings, etc. The data is only as good as the database where I got it. If you see any glaring errors (i did notice RYM kept pulling in data from the kinks for the ravenscoon, for some reason).
I have some python script that can read csv values to generate playlists, eventually i'll get around to generating playlists of the top 10 tracks by genre and/or some other category.

I think this is the first time I am a little excited for Superjam details... I could see it being kind of fun depending on the guests. I hope that's still on Saturday, kind of a light day for me still currently!

Oddly me too. The Petty super jam wasn’t bad but I’m a huge Petty fan. But SJ are usually misses but I plan on seeing this if it isn’t during anything. Normally I do not plan on seeing the SJ. Still woulda love SE to come back normal show or with band but I get the change. I love 80s music too so I’m down for 1984

Exact same here, the Petty superjam was the only one I made an effort to see, but I love him as well. I usually am not interested. Yeah there are so many good options for 1984!
Jack antonoff was involved in the pretty lights 80's themed superjam in 2015. I was only there for a bit before heading to D'Angelo but what I saw was pretty bad.
Not really that enthusiastic about this one without more details.

Thanks for putting this together. If this makes one thing clear to me it's that I'd have no interest in a festival that was booked and billed strictly based on Spotify followers.

They have literally put nothing out that is mediocre. Every album and every attempt at a genre is great.

I remember walking over to the end of that Superjam and they brought out (most of?) the members of Run DMC and the hype man was going ape shit like “COME ON YA’LL, ITS RUN DMC, THIS IS HISTORIC” and the crowd was just like 😐

Listen...I don't need to be told if something is historic
