I’m just commenting that it’s kinda weird to describe Dr Dre’s Coachella appearance as just a guest spot with Anderson Paak.
Anyway, I think Gaga getting announced Sunday Service style in 2020 because ticket sales were incredibly weak is just as likely as any other scenario. They seems to have a habit of adding at least someone notable almost every year.
That's not remotely the point I was making, that an NWA reunion was not important. "Lady Gaga was set to do a surprise set at Coachella" does not mean it was a standalone set - Dr. Dre did a "surprise set" at Coachella in 2016...at somebody else's show. Kanye during The Weeknd, same thing. Which is what I am getting at, I bet that was what Lady Gaga was going to do. I am not sure how this has blossomed into this "Lady Gaga was going to do her own set at Coachella" when many artists have done surprise mini-sets at other shows already.
I also don't get the "adding somebody notable almost every year" - Sunday Service in 2019, the Pixies in 2014, and??? Skepta in 2017 was sick but that's hardly a huge ad. Adding Lady Gaga as a surprise - a former headliner and would still be a headliner - would be pretty fucking unprecedented.

I mean, it's entirely possible that after 3 years away, they're making changes to the "traditional" notions of stages and scheduling. Maybe they do recreate the old Sahara in the Mojave, shift smaller rock-oriented acts to the Outdoor, who knows.
That said, I'll believe the Hu are playing the Outdoor at 7:00 p.m. when I see it. Or, when I don't see it, because I'll be at something else along with 95% of the rest of the crowd.

You think 5% of a Coachella crowd are showing up to the Hu? I’m betting closer to 5 people total.
Honestly the last couple Coachellas, the Outdoor has been having lackluster attendance. At least in my experience, 2016 and 2017 had big Outdoor crowds, 2018 and 2019 not so much. Even for the bigger acts.
The only act I saw pull a really big crowd there between the last two years was Billie Eilish. And even that wasn't as big as say.. Jack U 2016 or Travis Scott 2017

the irony here is that if the Friday schedule in the OP was the actual one, I'd probably be at the Hu myself
That Purple Disco Machine clip looks like a concert, not a dance party. I was under the impression he did a straightforward DJ set but apparently not.
The majority of his sets are just straightforward DJ sets. I don't think we should look at that set in Madrid and expect that at Coachella, it will almost certainly be more akin to his EDC Mexico 2022 set, or pretty much any other set he's done in the last year.
He does both, so just depends on which they decided to book
Can you post a video of another set he's done recently similar to his Madrid one you posted earlier?
I’ll gladly admit he could do either type of set, but this live set was exactly what I was expecting when I heard he was gonna be playing in the fall and I think it’s notable he’s busting it out two weeks before Coachella.

The vocalist he performed with will be out of the country during Coachella. I think it's more likely that was a one off.

Where you seeing that? I don’t see any Sophie tour dates until November

Ah, it was google/Bandsintown that gave me that info, even though their actual tour dates on their site indeed don't have anything til November. I take it back, but also still don't think that Sophie is going on tour with PDM.

They rescheduled those spring dates in early Feb, which, also kinda sus!

Oh, weird. It's been awhile, but I forgot you really can't trust bandsintown for shit.

Yeah, I don’t think there have been particularly notable late adds since Pixies/Casablancas/others in 2014 (and to answer your earlier q - pixies simply had an obvious tour gap, and everyone found it weird they weren’t playing, so the late add felt like it made sense). We have no clue what the Gaga thing was going to be. I’ve stopped expecting late adds at this point. But I wouldn’t be surprised if they came back; attendance feels like it’s been lagging a bit the last couple festivals and that’s the sort of thing that drives late adds.

Billie Eilish W1 was the most packed show I’ve ever tried to see at the outdoor (I couldn’t even get past the palm tree dividers. Wound up audibling to the beer garden by the gobi for it.)

FroLem bet on this? They’ll get a solid crowd
How would a decent crowd be defined lol? Would have to be the crowd within the first 10 minutes of their set and not the crowd at the end that may be comprised of campers for the next set.
Interested in the bet simply for making one at this point. Seems wrong not to have one frozen lemonade bet. That all being said, I just can’t imagine the set times working out in any favor for the Hu. Are there really going to be that many people who want to to spend their first sunset on the fields in three years at a Mongolian Folk Rock band?

2010 on the Outdoor was pretty bad since everyone snuck in and the fest wasnt cut out to hand all the extra people yet. The Xx had a crowd all the way to Gobi and they played mid afternoon. Atoms for Peace and Phoenix were way packed and went about as far back. The most recent ghost town for a highly billed artist that was on Outdoor was A Perfect Circle in 2018.
Biggest outdoor crowds I've ever seen personally were Chromeo in 2011, Wu Tang in 2013, Disclosure 2014. Chromeo and Wu Tang definitely went back to the Gobi. I believe that Billie was enormous but somehow my wife and I ended up super close after staying for all of Weezer, and I was able to sprint to Parcels and catch most of their set after 5 or so songs of Billie.
Then again this ain't our first rodeo and we knew to go to the far right side facing the stage...outdoor always goes back way farther on the left. Not that anybody will need tips on getting up close to the outdoor if its just going to be The Hu and Hot Chip.

That's interesting, my friend and I had no issues getting close for Billie W1 and we didn't get to the stage early at all. I def think Travis W1 2017 was the largest that I've been to personally.
Now is our time to get ballsy and slap a headliner on Sunday's template and release it to the Reddit hounds. If we nail it, we are set timez legendz. If we whiff it, no matter because we'll whiff everything else.
