Is there any electronic act or DJ that would be a headliner? Calvin Harris?
I see people have mentioned Odesza, I find that hard to believe but others seem to believe it.
The jump is just logical after their subheadlining positions and how much of a crowd pleaser they tend to be. I’m not a huge fan but it seems inevitable. If they dont headline Coachella id bet anything they headline Gov Ball, Hangout, Lolla or ACL in 2023.

As popular as ODESZA is, I don’t think they have the draw to sell as many tickets as the usual Coachella headliner. As much as we bag on SHM’s tour sales, I still think SHM are bigger than ODESZA. They’d likely just sub again like others before have.

Odesza is a headliner at virtually every other festival (that books that kind of music to begin with) l that is not named Coachella. I just can’t see them headlining coachella unless this album is waay bigger than the rest of their records.
Will she still be promoting the album 37 months after it's release? She's going tour anywhere they let her from earlier tonight in Miami and beyond so there's no time for writing/recording new stuff.
im not saying i want them to be headliners or that they will, just that they might. And i wanted to save people from disappointment in the case that they do lmao

Odesza hasn't headlined a single major multi-genre fest.

The fact that RTJ also didn't postpone to 2023 gives me hesitation that Rage is playing next year. It wouldn't shock me if they instead did some L.A. Rising type event this fall.

I could definitely see them doing something for the hometown shows. They have, what 5 nights at MSG and nothing in SoCal? Obviously they have something big in mind which could be headlining Coachella, or... something else.
I'm guessing Rage does something like L.A. Rising again. I'm covering USC basketball on Thursday so I'll ask around if they have a hold on the Coliseum for 2023.

USC football has 2 road games and a bye on their schedule this October which is plenty of time to set it up and such. Somebody mentioned that in the upcoming shows thread about a rumor for that. If they did announce a solo show in LA then Coachella is probably off the table. Timing wise it could be after the refund window is closed for the rescheduled dates next month. I dont think GV was going to try and piss a bunch of people off by doing that kind of thing at the same time. Although theres a lot of tickets sitting around now for the shows at regular prices.
I think its not a great sign that after Frank rescheduled for 2023, they came right out and confirmed he'd be back, but they've been completely silent on RATM

I mean Coachella 2022 is their number 1 focus now. No need to announce anything until January. Nerds like us will assume no LA date means they’re back, everyone else doesn’t care, and if a LA show is announced Coachella can stay silent and move forward.
I think PT was just in his interview and felt compelled to say the Frank news because it would have been way worse PR if Frank wasn’t on the lineup 2 years after people held tickets. Travis and Rage were casualties of war but if either of them were canceled around the time of the interview they would have been mentioned too
I know it’s wishful thinking and selfish, but man if they did another LA Rising with Rage and convinced System of a Down to play, I’d lose it. Still completely blown away by those recent LA shows. Sad it’s rumored Serj doesn’t want to perform anymore.
Coachella threads always end up discussing how the festival has moved away from rock acts, but seeing the sold out crowds at recent Tool and System shows, there’s clearly a huge market for 90s/00s nostalgic butt rock bands.
There's a market for that, just not something you could really anchor a major fest on in 2022.
System of a Down and Tool were the EXACT headliners for the last Chicago Open Air a few years back. It sold horribly, they were comping tickets left and right, and that was the last year of that fest. (It was in a crappy location, but it sold truly terribly.)

Yet Tool is headlining Bonnaroo on Saturday and they were on the 2020 lineup which was considered very strong. Those bands can find a place on the big fests, its just if they want to play or if somebody asks them. Coachella had A Perfect Circle 4 years ago so its not as if Maynard gave a shit about being on the same lineup as Beyonce and Eminem. And its nice to have the contrast anyway. Things cycle anyway.
Totally get those acts might not be a draw for festivals in other areas, but Tool sold out 3 California arena shows and System of a Down did 2 sold out nights in a Los Angeles stadium. I think SoCal audiences are still interested in these acts and would flock to Coachella or another Cali festival if they played. Just my opinion, but I think Rage * Tool * Frank Ocean would be insanely popular.

There's always room for variety, it just seems tougher to make a business case for the old white dude bands taking up prime slots these days. That Besame Mucho fest selling out in a hour is the latest data point along those lines.
To be clear - I love Tool and SOAD and have seen the multiple times. But that's probably a vote against booking them in 2023 since I'm totally washed.
