Not huge on this festival because I am not that much into EDM, but being from Michigan and the fact that Earl Sweatshirt is playing makes me want to go check it out.

Can anyone comment on the hotel situation for Movement? Like do rooms near (walking distance) from Hart become impossible at some point? Trying to decide if I should book a cancel-able room just in case. Direct flights out of New Orleans are still cheap so this is doable if I don't go to Bonnaroo.
It's good, but I feel like Movement every year is really similar to the year before it. Like they're all really good but really unsurprising.
Every single year there are those few hip-hop/rap acts I really want to see but I just don't motivate myself enough to go. Maybe with the next couple phases it'll change!
Carl Cox is the definition of a headliner that really is a good get for them that perfectly fits the fest, but is an act that is ridiculously predictable and was just a matter of time.

edit: nevermind i just booked a room.
Most of the rooms within walking distance to the fest are really expensive ($200+/night)
Considering this as my summer fest this year since Levitation is no more and I doubt Bonnaroo will do much for me.
Does it typically sell out? Debating buying a ticket now, but not sure I could fully commit til a little later due to work. Wondering if it would be too hard to dump my ticket if things fall through.

He rarely plays any U.S. fest aside from Ultra now, so I'd say he's a good get.
There's a lot this year that's pretty different from previous years.

Maybe it's just that it feels similar? There's just nothing here that jumps out at me as a shock or anything. It's still a good lineup from top to bottom though - you're certainly not going to find an electronic music fest in the U.S. that does better.
Surprises aren't as prevalent as at say Primavera or Dekmantel, but it's got a lot of great acts who rarely play the U.S.

I booked out in Dearborn and will just Uber.
Dearborn, gotcha, thanks for the tip. I booked the Hilton Garden Inn Downtown but it's $200+ per night, looks like I can do a lot better in Dearborn.

Some of the names that stood out to me are:
Audion (LIVE) - That setup he has is pretty cool, havent seen it since Moog a few years back The Belleville Three - Will obv be amazing with Saunderson, May, Atkins going b2b2b. Death In Veags present Transmission Factory Floor Kevin Saunderson as E-Dancer Larry Heard aka Mr. Fingers Mount Kimbie (LIVE) Pan-Pot (Personal favorite who hasnt played in a long while) Leon Vynehall

So while I purport to love techno and house, I am woefully uninformed as to the DJs/artists of the genre. I'd like to rectify this. So using the 2017 Movement phase 1 announcement as a springboard, I'm doing some research and compiling a google doc with my findings:
Focusing mainly on DJs, and trying to find a recentish set or podcast for each one. Not a ton of names now but I'll continue to update as busy season at work progresses.
If you happen to notice my genre identification is off, or I've chosen a set that isn't indicative of the DJs typical sound, or if I've somehow linked to a set that isn't that DJ at all (soundcloud can get confusing), please let me know.

This is cool. I don't think I will make it back this year. Unless like one of the headliners is Massive Attack or something, but I have started listening to some of the acts. Will let you know if I come across anything interesting.

Has anyone ever stayed across the border in Windsor? I can get a free hotel but its across the river in Canada and im curious if I can Uber/Taxi back and forth

If you do Afters it would suck because they close the border from I think 11 p.m. or midnight to 5 a.m. If you end up staying out to 5 every night, it's doable. I think staying in Dearborn or another close to Detroit city would be better.

Surely that can't be true? You mean no one can cross into Canada after midnight?
Have they improved the festival site at all in the last couple years? I went back in 2013 and I just remember the stages and the actual festival site was kind of low-quality. Also, do yourself a favor and really check out the hotels before you book them. There are some VERY sketchy hotels in the Corktown area that a lot of people stayed at and had issues late at night. Spend the extra money and stay at MGM or one of the other casinos.

If you're looking for more of the "fun" DJs at Movement, Shiba San definitely leads the pack. Check out the rest of the Dirty Bird roster if you liked that.
