i haven't been to steak and shake since high school. we used to hit it up late night because a waitress there said we could BYOB so long as it was in an unmarked cup. so it was a cool spot for underage drinking.

Someone gives me a Starbucks gift card, I am 100% using it within a month. I mostly drink drip, I think their drip is mid, but I'll use it anyway. It does what it's supposed to do.
If I get a Arby's/Taco Bell/McDonald's gift card, I'm giving that shit away.

the hypothetical gift card is a good litmus test, especially for people who don't typically hit up drive throughs.
starbucks card gets used, arby's card sits in a drawer at my entry table until we sell our condo and move, then i'll throw it away. probably throw away the entire entry table just to be sure.

For my money, it's 24 hours, you can get redbulls there, the food isn't that good, but I've never not had a burger there that wasn't better than Whattaburger. Most of my Texas friends have a love affair for Whataburger. It's better than McDonald's though I guess.
Almost all the original Top 20 is terrible shit. I won't eat at any of the ones already crossed off except an occasional whopper and if someone gives me a Krispy Kreme. But I'm not going there to get any. For the remaining shit still on the list, Steak & Shake is okay (they also short order pancakes that aren't that bad), Starbucks is okay. Popeye's is good when it's good. Chicken Fil-A has a few edible menu items. We don't have In-N-Out or Cookout, so I never had them and can't say. The others:
Arby's - Dog food
McDonald's - Humanoid Food
Whataburger - Mustard is on everything everywhere
Dairy Queen - Vomitous Wendy's - Not that it has to be bad, but they never get my order right. When you don't eat mayonnaise or American Cheese and they continuously fuck it up,
Taco Bell - Good god people eat the shit out of this garbage. If you didn't know how to cook, you could get better tacos out of an Ortega or Old El Paso meal kit. No clue in the world other than they're a late night option, why anyone would eat this cat food.
I do have a major gripe with CFA and the obscene traffic problems they seem to create. while I think their food is better than some on this list, they don't really merit people blocking lanes of traffic waiting to go through the drive-thru. so, it's overrated for sure.
idk they do a great job at mitigating the situation compared to other places. have had some horrendous in and out experiences
On the Always Sunny podcast, they spent an entire episode talking about Rob’s recent experience in a very long In N Out drive-thru line. The episode is called Rob Almost Fights Some Got Outside a Hamburger Store.

Everything here would or could be better if you made it at home. That's true of most chain restaurants. You're paying for convenience and in some cases nostalgia.
Sorry I'm sending all Taco Bell gift cards to Esteban
Lol. I'd have to donate them to the food bank. None of my kids eats that shit either. I think their last foray into it might have been baja chalupas back when they were in high school.

I wasn't taking the liberty of recommending any scratch cooking. I went with "out of the box (meal kit)." It's like probably that frozen Chinese food would be likely better than what you could get at Panda Express.

Even though you're not making taco shells from scratch in your scenario, you still have to cook a pan of taco meat, shred cheese (if you're being serious), dice tomatoes, shred lettuce, etc to make tacos. Or you could drive thru Taco Bell and get a couple of tacos for 3.50. That's the difference.
Man, if I actually cared I would defend Arby's as entirely edible. But I don't care enough.
I think I've eaten at it twice or three times in my life. I had roast beef each time, and it was inedible to the point of being almost like a paper thin version of luncheonmeat except billed as roast beef. The Au Jus sucked too. Reminded me of Rax back in the day (which sucked and failed). When I was a kid, there was one or two Roy Rogers' Roast Beefs around. They don't have them here anymore, but maybe it still exists. At least you could make the argument that it looked and tasted like roast beef I guess. You can't really do that with Arfy's.
