only downside is the potential headliner pool gets a lot more limited from here on out lol
is there a rule about promoting acts? like, could you take an act that played like 2 pm on a Friday in 2004 and have them headline because they ended up getting huge?

you’re still getting the show that they played, but you can bill wherever you want

they can be promoted but you'd also have to take in consideration how badly you'd want that hour-long set or whatever to be a headliner.
I think Kid Koala might have opened for Arcade Fire when I saw them? Reflektor tour.
Yep. Really enjoyed him being there too since he was the transition between the opener and Arcade Fire so there really wasn't a set break to get bored during; more arena acts should have DJs between in their openers IMO.

eh, midday sets back in the 00s were longer than some headlining shows are in the current iterations, you'd be fine, especially with bands that got bigger but worse
back in my day, when Bonnaroo had DJs on the lineup, they played in between acts on the What stage
honestly a big fan of that and don't understand why more fests don't do it. there's only so much between set sound check and almost everything but the drums is in monitors
I understand the idea of people picking sets that they objectively thought were the best, but are there people that would really watch Jack Johnson and LCD Soundsystem over James Brown and Gregg Allman risen from the dead?
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know you realize that life goes fast - It's hard to make the good things last-you realize the sun doesn't go down - It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round

I think it's less about people preferring JJ and LCD to Brown or Allman and more about grabbing acts that are realistically big enough to headline.

risen from the dead James Brown is a headliner but LCD was probably an objectively better set of music than 75 year old James Brown. Just depends how you look at it

I get it - but the flip side is that I would think that a reincarnated human being that's been dead 15 years is a big enough deal to headline, if only from a metaphysical perspective.

But should a reincarnated James Brown playing a set that was bad be a headliner?
Also, no one should listen to me because I'm mad that I won't have Bjork as one of my headliners.

Maybe he shouldn't- but wouldn't people want to watch it? If we were talking about deepfake holograms that looked realistic then it would be a different story, but the Godfather of Soul live in the flesh?
Also - if you get to pick what time they play, does that mean you get a reset on the weather? Like 2008 Jacket - is it still pouring rain regardless ?
