We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
Been there many times but never stayed. We’re staying there tomorrow night. What’s the best burger place near Broad St and the best breakfast place?
Go to downtown is The Grill but it’s saying it’s closed for maintenance? Wtf. Loco’s and Blind Pig Tavern are the other popular burger joints but there isn’t a Loco's downtown.
So breakfast would be Mamma’s Boy for sure but expect to wait a bit on the weekend. It’s down on Broad where it changes to Oak St. Worth the walk or drive. There actually is a Blind Pig down that way too. Kind of tucked in the hillside next to north campus.

Clocked is the best burger imo. Blind Pig is fine, Grindhouse is really good but it’s not downtown. The World Famous might have burgers. They change their menu a lot.
Best breakfast place is Momma’s Boy and it’s really not even close. There’s a reason it’s always slammed. It’s walking distance from downtown but you’re better off just picking up to go. There’s also a Waffle House downtown that I’ve spent many a morning hungover in.
Oh and don’t forget to go by the campus bookstore and pick up a “Georgia Bulldogs National Champions” shirt for yourself.

I’ll wear one of my Clemson national championship shirts. I have a couple to choose from.

maybe I’m reading this wrong but there is a Blind Pig downtown. There’s three total in Athens.

The Grill was so fucking classic. I feel like it was the best little place for crust punks and old people alike, the only place stopping downtown Athens from being a complete Frat Hell. People use to get married there, the Christmas parties were legendary and included strippers and sometimes famous athens musicians. The owner said he wants to reopen in April but it’ll never be the same at this rate. </3

oh one more suggestion:
Tucked in this weird side street downtown is a place called Toppers. They’re known for putting unique toppings on burgers. They’re open late too.

I dated a girl who worked there. Made good tips. True story.
No, you’re right. I always think of that Blind Pig downtown as a bar. There used to be one on Williams Street close to the river, down behind Nuci’s Space. That’s what I was referring to.

Was Bone Shakers already closed when you got there? That was one of the funniest places downtown. Of course frat guys tried to ruin it by picking fights with people outside.

that entire complex got torn down. It was empty for like 2 years last I checked. I used to live right across from there in River Mill, which was the worst living experience ever.
I got knocked out in front of toppers once, 0/10 experience
So I probab;y shouldn't wear my Clemson stuff in there?
Teddy's always starting trouble in burger joints. Knowing him he probably said something bad about the Stiffy, which is the signature burger and an Athens staple. You gotta walk in and yell "GIVE ME A STIFFY!" if it's your first time.

Exactly. You got nothing to worry about, sang_xcx. Wear your ugly orange and purple. Please tell your wife to take video.

wear what you like but I’m going to tell you a secret. Walk across Broad and go south through campus until you are close to the stadium. Find this ugly bronze bulldog in front of Memorial Hall. For decades the smart students know to rub it’s balls for good luck and great fortune. They even say if you lick it’s balls you will be shown even greater favor.

. Ohh. Okay. I rarely go downtown so i’m still unsure of just how much has changed.
I used to drive international students to River Mill when I took them apartment hunting. I lived right down behind what’s now Mamaw’s Boy for awhile. So close to your old place. But mostly off of college station next to Polo Club.

do you still live there?
No, just working a contract job there full time. Going to end up being like 9 months before the end. I stay at Sleep Inn on Atlanta highway during the week. Haha.

Come to Waxahatchee show with us tonight.
if you’re looking for a bar, you should go to Roadhouse. It’s right across the street and (typically) isn’t run over by frat kids.
