That's something that can usually be said of anywhere that isn't home. I find most of America to be boring on its own - not that I don't make my own fun wherever I am and can make due. But when you come from somewhere that is eclectic and that has its own rhythm to it, it's something you miss when you're away. I need travel - it's not so much to get out of this city as it is to just broaden personal experience, knowledge and information.
After losing Marcus Williams, the Saints are going with Marcus Maye who we signed to a 3 year $28.5MM contract last night. We also extended Bradley Roby (CB) who played pretty well for us last year. He didn't play last year, when he was designated with the franchise tag, due to a torn ACL. I don't know how it affects cap space, since we were still $2.9MM over after the Davenport restructure. Maybe we'll let someone walk today for some cap savings or do another couple restructures since we obviously will sign a few more free agents, need a QB and have to sign our draft class.
The Saints have done it. We are now $4MM under the salary cap with the restructures of David Onyemata and James Hurst. Who did we cut? Nobody yet. Below is a list of our remaining free agents. We're not going to sign them all back. I want Kwon Alexander and PJ Williams back the most (with the * by Jameis since I don't know if we're getting him back - seems like we wouldn't have pursued Watson if so). Some of y'all motherfuckers need to understand the cap and different ways it can be manipulated before trying to tell me some shit.
QB Jameis Winston QB Trevor Siemian RB Dwayne Washington RB Ty Montgomery WR Tre’Quan Smith TE Garrett Griffin OL Terron Armstead DL Jalyn Holmes LB Kwon Alexander CB P.J. Williams S Jeff Heath

LMFAO. Don't make me bust out the watch more football meme. As for the Saints, outside of Jameis and Armstead (who is special but we generally only get him for 7 or 8 games a season), no one on that list is a starter. Siemian was a mid-season pickup when Winston and Hill went down (3rd/4th string QB). Washington was hurt most of last year and is our 3rd string HB. Ty was converted to RB and is 4th string. Tre'Quan never lived up to his draft pick. Griffin is a backup TE. Holmes played a few snaps as backup DL accounting for 12 tackles last year and one pass defensed. Heath was 4th Safety on the roster. I already said I wanted PJ and Kwon back. Neither are starters, but they're both important rotational players in our defense.

Those roster spots, plus a QB, plus a rookie draft class, are going to cost more than $4mm, so there are going to be more cuts. Of course they'll get under the cap, they have to.
What do you think they'll do at QB? If its Watson, how do they create the cap room (as a guess, obviously)?
We finished our RFA tenders, so some of those guys are going to get better deals than we can give them. We'll do more restructures and accelerate salaries into signing bonuses where we have to. I don't know how they would potentially deal with the full impact of Watson's contract without trading anyone to Houston. I guess there would be at least one or two current players moving over to Houston if we can make the deal work. I don't think he goes to Cleveland or Atlanta, so it's likely where he wants to play out of us and the Panthers. He's from north GA and played at Clemson of course, so Charlotte is closer to home. But which of those two franchises is set up to win now and potentially be a super bowl contender with him at QB? It's us, the team with the second most wins since he came into the league in 2017. Brees wasn't carrying the team in any of those years, and he was out a good portion of 2020 and 2019. We won with Taysom Hill, Teddy Bridgewater, etc.
My assumption (and yours) is that we may have to make 2 or 3 veteran cuts and replace whoever those guys are with draft picks or cheaper free agents. According to OTC, the remaining 4 years on his contract are:
I'm not 100% on the impacts of high dollar traded players in the middle of their contracts as to how much (if any) of the dead money comes over. But all we would have to do is either completely rework his contract with voidable years to push the cap out into the future or run his $35MM base into an up-front bonus and hope he doesn't get hurt then spread it over the remaining life of the contract understanding that he's got an extremely high value at less than $40MM/season. You figure the cap should continue to go up with the streaming services in bidding wars to carry the games.
Going back the last decade or so since the uncapped year, the salary cap has been:
My guess is that if it keeps going up +/- $10MM a year, the cap will be somewhere around $235-240MM in his final year. There will be room to absorb the spread - of course depending on him staying healthy or we're in hell.
it's jazz. It's West African. It's Caribbean. It's colonial. It's rain. It's sirens. It's trumpets in the distance. It is it's own thing and it's own way of doing shit more what you'd see in maybe Italy as far as an appreciation for life.
We're 45 minutes away from several players becoming cap hits (though Watson isn't until March 22nd). Some reporters have speculated that Terron Armstead (our Left Tackle) is and has been waiting to see if we get Watson as to whether or not he's going to stay here or seek the big dollars elsewhere. 43 minutes left until everyone's got to be under the cap.

Beyond Mitch, the Steelers have done a nice job I think. Mason Cole and James Daniels on the OL, both very flexible positionally, along with retaining Chuks. Myles Jack will be an upgrade in the LB corps, and I like the Levi Wallace signing.
Draft needs coming into more focus but also having ability to take BPA.
I’m the biggest Von Miller fan out there (I have a “[Von Miller face] is Dope” t-shirt), and cdevaney will love watching him, but 6 years, 120M total, with 51M guaranteed is just stupid. He’ll be 33 next month. Broncos fans were thinking a 3 year deal with 2 guaranteed.
