the last couple times i've seen avett brothers, i start out interested and attentive and by the halfway point i'm ready for a nap. or a trip to the beer line.

Last time I saw Avetts, they were subbing the main for Pearl Jam at Sea.Hear.Now last year, and while I found them inoffensive, I really just wanted them to be done so my favorite band could start playing.

I’m actually more bored by their newer songs that “rock”. Get High Steppin and Ain’t No Man the fuck out of here. Give me the old songs that make me want to cry.

I'm admittedly not super-familiar with Sufjan's catalog. I do have his "Songs for Christmas" album, though, which is really good for a nap under the Christmas tree.

ok well lemme show you how un-nappy some of his music is.
and btw, each of these songs are from DIFFERENT ALBUMS. I know A&A is his least sleepy album, but I am only posting one song from that here.

I once signed up to be a bone marrow donor during a Shakey Graves set because I was so bored.
LoveLuckLaughter is listening to Carrie & Lowell rn. Must be nap time.
thats his very sleepiest album and you know it. maaaaybe Seven Swans instead. but those are the only two that don't at least have a couple v upbeat tracks with tons of vibrant instrumentation that is not at all nap friendly.
and i stand by my original statement that C&L isn't good nap music unless you like shedding tears as you sleep. And omg that tour, if anyone fell asleep during one of those shows they probably are a sociopath unable to experience empathy

I acquiesced here for you, Rummy 500  , and the song below, my favorite song from the new album-obviously, Kansas. I think Avetts have kept me dancing and thus more "physically" awake over the years. But I was going to go Suf next, so what does it matter the order. The only remaining artists that I don't love are The Lumineers. Everyone else remains among my favorites. So what do I care. I'm not sleeping.
I just looked up the setlist from my first Sufjan show, his "hometown" show in Pontiac in Sept 2009. What an interesting set list, and a little sleepy in parts lol. I bet this photo was taken on a Gen 1 iPhone. Fun fact, they were filming parts of the Red Dawn remake at that time and I "acquired" a propaganda poster that they had hanging from one of the buildings.
Though it wasn't there Get it back, get nowhere Get it right, follow my heart Back to, back to Oz Where I was born at the start Don't be my last call Do you mind that I'm falling apart?

We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
