i've ranted about the lyrics before, but the shift from narrative description to crippling introspection from the line:
well i moved into this room if you could call it that a week ago
right into:
i never do what i'm supposed to do
absolutely walloped me in the stomach the first time i heard it.
he uses the same tactic in "if it takes a lifetime":
i been working here monday it'll be a year
right into:
and i can't recall a day when i didn't wanna disappear
but i see "if it takes a lifetime" as the more hopeful sequel to "alabama pines". the latter is mostly darkness, the former has a ray of light shining through the clouds.
learning how to be alone fall asleep with the TV on and i fight the urge to live inside my telephone i keep my spirits high find happiness by and by if it takes a lifetime

have some huge coverage next weekend. if you know anything about the bands i love in the texas country/red dirt scene, you’ll know i’m ecstatic for next saturday.
I’m jealous. That’s a hell of a lineup. I saw Turnpike Troubadours for the first time at this last Roo, and I was blown away by how good they are live. I was definitely glad I made the mid-evening trip to Plaza 5.
I’m seeing American Aquarium next month, and I’m curious how the Chicamacomico songs sounded live. My sister passed away on the 4th of July, and I listened to that album driving back and forth to visit her in hospice. It’s a perfect album - a punch in the gut - and I’m guaranteed to be bawling at that show.
Upcoming Shows: 9/23 - Drive-By Truckers & American Aquarium @ Madison Theater 10/10-10/11 - Phish @ Nutter Center 11/3 - Rubblebucket @ Bogart's 11/9 - The Head and The Heart @ The Andrew J. Brady Center 12/6 - Preservation Hall Jazz Band: Creole Christmas @ Memorial Hall 1/4 - Aerosmith & The Black Crowes @ Riverfront Coliseum 1/26 - Mr. Big @ Ludlow Garage

they didn’t play too much from Chicamacomico. They opened with the title track and All I Needed and played Wildfire like halfway through. I thought the title track was a bit of an odd opener but doesn’t mean it was bad. All I Needed and Wildfire definitely translated well live but I knew that from the second I heard them.
