This round is hard but I have to go mortal combat. I know it was a game changer but street fighter, tekken, or marvel vs capcom we’re always my favorites when it comes to fighting games. I think fallout would be my second choice from the list.

No game series has ever done gratuitous violence quite like Mortal Kombat, even if the games vary in quality, the fatalities are always inventive. First thing I do after the release of a new MK is watch an "every fatality" video on YouTube
I remember playing Gauntlet a good deal in the arcade when I was at soccer camp. Is that still in the running here?
Gauntlet was just arcade and PC until they started making those arcade classic compilations. So it wasn’t really on any household consoles back when we were playing it in arcades. It was too high tech.
Loved Mortal Kombat 2 so I could play as Reptile. I had that one on Genesis (before my parents knew what the Age ratings on games meant). I remember renting 1 and 3 at Blockbuster and there was no Reptile and being disappointed. 3 had Smoke and Cyrax though.
Mortal Combat fatalities are great, but the last two dooms with glory kills of crushed skulls, ripped out hearts and eyes, death punches and shit are the top rung.
And some of the kills on the player are equally good.
12 franchises left and folks already talking about taking out Fallout.
i'm so biased it's impossible for me to be objective about Fallout, but trying my best to separate myself emotionally from the series I will also assert it is too early to be voting off Fallout.
anyway this is the only doodad i have on my desk at work. i don't even have any personal photos.
I haven't played all of the Fallout games in the same way I've played all of the console Elder Scrolls, but my brother goes hard on both and often says he thinks Fallout is a better series.
Wasn't Fallout 76 a total disaster? Did they ever figure that out?
they're still regularly releasing new content for it, and I've heard it's actually pretty solid now
this is the same thing i've heard. universally hated upon release but now anytime it's brought up some current player will pop in and say it's actually a lot of fun now. never tried to get back into it but maybe i should.
having said that i also never really got into Elder Scrolls Online. i'm not much of an online player anyway and to me ES and Fallout are just single player games. particularly with Skyrim what the modding community has accomplished is just incredible.

Yeah, and Elder Scrolls Online wasn’t much better at it’s launch. Less tech issues but the game itself was considered mediocre. Bethesda isn’t always the best with their content strategies. I don’t ever play multiplayer so it’s not really for me to judge. But obviously they’ve also knocked it the fuck out of the park with titles as well. Mostly with Elder Scrolls. Fallout 3 and 4 have their ups and downs but are at least enjoyable when they stick to the basics of the franchise.
Both franchises have a history separate from Bethesda anyway. And that’s where Fallout exceeds. In game design, story and it’s ability for player choices to actually have meaningful consequences.
And this is personal taste but I fucking love the mix of retrofutrusm and apocalyptic tropes in the game design. It always hits.
