How is Flashing Lights beating MMJ, Metallica, and Frank Ocean? Flashing Lights is like the weakest track on that album.
Edit - ok actually I just relistened to that album and I had forgotten how bad Drunk and Hot Girls and Barry Bonds were. So Flashing Lights is like 3rd worst on the album.
i guess i didn't participate in whatever thing it was these discography rankings were based on, but yeah Battery is Metallica's best song, and it's arguably the quintessential thrash metal song. and an all time classic mosh pit song.
in my mind inforoo is this haven for heavy metal lovers but the amount of votes metallica songs are getting in this thing jolts me back into reality that most inforooers actually just don't like metal. cause Battery is fucking awesome. if i made a list of "favorite songs to hear live" it would probably be top five. definitely my favorite metallica song to hear live.
i'd personally put it above a lot of the songs in this round, even a lot of songs i love and/or consider essential and important to the artist in question or popular music in general.

IMO it's the best execution of phase 1 kanye style. like if someone who only knows kanye from his current antics asked "what the hell made this guy so famous anyway", the easiest response is to play "Flashing Lights" for them. song is unassailable. even with everything you know about kanye you can't help but feel that fucking groove.

off topic but i just listened to "Flashing Lights" and spotify autoplayed "Through the Wire" afterwards. brings me back i guess 20 years, when i was downloading whatever Kanye West I could find off of Limewire, and I sat in my shitty college room and listened to this song for the first time on my shitty Altec Lansing computer speakers, and heard that beat for the first time with that vocal sample, my jaw hitting my goddamn desk. kind of emotional thinking about it but i also got emotional listening to "hot fun in the summertime" earlier this morning, guess i'm just having a raw kind of day.

Oh shit, I had no idea it was supposed to be neutral. I figured based on the initial trolling happening in the first two rounds, plus all the usual shitposting, people were treating this one like the sort of "wild west" poll. I was trying to be as non-official as possible to show I in no way am an official survivor.
