I think that people are going to have the same critique of Kendrick... a Vince Staples or Denzel Curry because they both went with full mood records. These are all classics, but so few will be radio plays. And that "matters".. but does it when touring &edit: opening record deals; where the real money comes from?

I think that overestimates how many people only care if there’s bangers on an album. Kendrick will find plenty of success with this album because it’s good

I mean I have to give you that just on the Heart Part 5. I will say Mr. Morale is probably the single release.
This is just a so compellingly different record than what someone where he is, has to do, that I just agree this is energy needed in this tired ass society.

I think, much like Frank Ocean, he has enough of a dedicated fanbase and recognition to warrant whatever he wants for years to come.
Plenty of big artists in the past (Frank being a great example) have put out more left field albums than their contemporaries. It's kind of Kendrick's thing to an extent. Anyone disappointed by its lack of single power has not really paid meaningful attention to Kendrick.

Agreed. He’s about the message & elevating his art form to the highest degree he can.
Just speaking for my preference, I don't really like the kind of beats like United in Grief, Die Hard, Purple Hearts, Crown, ect. The laid back, jazz-style stuff isn't my jam. Like more of the DNA, Madd City, Ronald Reagan Era type stuff. I appreciate his vison and attempt to make an album that was something unique but at the end of the day, if I can't sit and enjoy it sonically, then the message/concept doesn't hit as hard.
Different strokes but I'm in love with the production on this one. Most enjoyable, production wise, since TPAB for me. Everything just flows so smooth.
Yeah, everyone likes different styles of production. For me it just doesn't do it with these beats with a couple of exceptions (N95, Silent Hill.) But again, not taking away from him as a rapper/artist as a whole. Some of my favorite Kendrick songs are his features on other artists albums.
Also if we're being completely honest, a good portion of people already had their mind made up that they were going to love this album before they heard a single note.
united in grief > N95 > worldwide steppers is pure hot fire. stimulating, interesting, engaging, entertaining. i'm having a harder time finding my way in the rest of the album but i'm going to keep trying because kendrick is worth it.
I love Kendrick very very much and been scared about this album cause getting older stuff just keeps getting more sus ….but HOT DAMN this shit is incredible. Can’t wait to listen to this over and over. Fav tracks off top ; N95, Unified in Grief , Crown and Savior.
So glad he’s coming to Charlotte. I’m sure I’m about to drop a lot more than I’d like to on a ticket but fudge it.

I hate to say it, but I don’t think cishet male hip-hop fans need Kendrick’s permission to absolve rapists. 6ix9ine still has a career, just to cite one example, and people seem much more upset with him for testifying for the prosecution in a gang trial than, you know, the whole sexual assault thing.

Just finished listening to it, I think it's great. Denzel is still my favorite hiphop album of the year. If I'm gonna be real honest I'm slightly concerned America will be too stupid for this album. Because if you only listen to the first 5 or 6 songs that is a dangerous fucking album. And if you don't get the commentary/satire its even more dangerous.
