Do people actually like the taste of coffee or is it just a caffeine delivery system?
massive fan of the taste of coffee. next to water it's my favorite beverage, and for sheer enjoyment coffee is my #1 beverage.
i think, like with most things you eat or drink with an active substance that makes you feel good, it's an acquired taste. like we've had a discussion recently about how people really like the taste of straight liquor. if say whiskey existed as a beverage with zero ethyl alcohol in it, zero people would honestly enjoy the taste of whiskey. i imagine it's the same with coffee. at first it's just a hot bitter drink that most first time users only make palatable with sugar or fat, but over time we grow to genuinely enjoy the flavor because of the good feeling associated with the taste.
hell i even grew to enjoy the flavor of psychedelic mushrooms.
Iirc, Belgium has one of the hightest drinking coffee per head ratio in the world. If that says something. We're not so high end about beer consumption nor do people act like snobs over it. So yes, I'm a bit surprised it's a thing.
Isn't Belgium famous for it's Trappist ales? One of the beer snobs favorite things to snob about?
Yes. And not a thing. Not here atleast.
With coffee I could see people snobbing over their carefully selected beans, their coffee machine, how they pour it out etc. But with beer? It's just beer. You buy it, you can talk about the flavor but.. That's it right lol. Of sounds so stupid.

^^^quick addition to my post above, i do think some beers genuinely taste good. i miss the taste of beer and i think that's a genuine thing, not just me craving alcohol since i haven't wanted to feel those effects for a long time.
just saying not all beverages/foods with a "mind altering" substance necessarily taste nasty.

Who here is drinking lemonade regularly without booze added to it? Nothing with the added bonus of caffeine or alcohol should be out yet on a druggie festival forum.
I wouldn't say regularly, but I did have a tall cup of lemonade at the druggie festival last month when I was attempting to rally after a rough night, and it really hit the spot in a way that I'm sure a Coke wouldn't have.
Was it spiked with other acids besides just citric acid? Otherwise this does not compute. Now Del's with the addition of tittie-flask vodka computes.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.

Massive fan of beer. It has such a wide range of taste. Cheap beer and craft.

My first IPA or Sour of the night is usually delicious.. by the time I get to the end of it though I'm very much over the taste and switching to bourbon. I can crush a bunch of cheep beer though

I completely agree with the first statement. I fucking love coffee. I don't drink coke very much anymore, but I drink coffee and water pretty much exclusive and that cup of coffee...it's like the best thing ever. So delicious.

My girl is a crazy beer snob. She travels to different breweries (and beer festivals) around the world, she used to have a local beer tour truck, but she also works at Urban South which is a local brewery. She has a following on insta and its kinda insane. She will go nuts over the hops and the way it is brewed/crafted and shit that I don't understand because I don't drink and really don't drink beer. So all the things you see coffee snobs do, beer snobs do as well.
Even as a coffee snob, I’m pretty sure there’s no amount of money you could pay me to pick half digested beans out of poop to make a cup of coffee.
I could be wrong though.
I’m not even a coffee snob - I just am into adventurous eating/drinking when I travel.
BUT, to clarify, I definitely didn’t pick the beans out of the poop myself. That all happens on the back end (so to speak), and all I had to do was drink the finished product. I agree being a part of that process wouldn’t be tops on my list.
Southeast Asian coffee fucks. Vietnamese coffee rocked my world and then I got to the Bolaven Plateau in Laos and that definitely leveled up my palette.

Oh, I kid. I used to be a bean buyer and Roaster for a café, years ago. I wouldn’t think you’d ever have to do that. It was someone’s job to pick those though. That was more my point.
