So, the site still shows $110 for Tier 1 GA tickets, but when you click on the link to purchase, it's now $149 before fees. A bit misleading given that a few days ago it said that the $110 was going to last until March.

For festivals like Boston Calling and In Between Days, the calculation is a little bit different than it is for a destination festival.
To me, the really expensive proposition is doing what you're doing; going to Primavera, going to Coachella, and dealing with airfare, hotels, and other incidental travel expenses. If I'm going to a local festival, I'm actually thinking about how much money I'm saving, regardless of how much passes cost, because GA is always going to cost less than seeing an equivalent number of artists play their own shows or traveling thousands of miles to see a better festival. More power to you if you can swing it, but for a lot of people, the cost of GA at a local festival is far more doable, and the fact that it's local gives people some wiggle room on what they're willing to spend because there aren't any additional related costs.
BC and IBD are entertainment/recreation for locals, first and foremost, and people who live in the area aren't going to sweat the ticket prices, just like they don't sweat the cost of Red Sox or Celtics tickets. If you can afford to go, you go. ($149 is probably mid-tier pricing for a single show at TD Garden. Festivals, in general, are a great bargain, if you don't have any travel expenses.)

To me, rock and roll doesn't get any better than when it's filled with buoyant melodies descended from the songwriting of Lennon and McCartney. This is why I'm always disappointed when Boston Calling leans into bluesy riff-o-rama bands like QotSA and why I'm now very happy that In Between Days has added The Beths to their lineup.

It really looks like they've intentionally booked separate indie rock and Americana/roots days. They could be mixing it up more, but this seems like a good way to sell more one-day passes. It's not unlike stacking Lumineers, Kahan, and Mt. Joy into the same day at BC.
was hoping for a band i cared about when they teased the artist addition on instagram, but instead it's a band i've never listened to. i guess if they sold out 2 nights at sinclair, they're probably at least decent. i'm going to end up going to both days of this because it's convenient and seems chill, but i definitely wish i was more inspired by the lineup.

Really, given the number of strong melodic rock and roll bands you've always got listed in your upcoming shows, I think that you'll definitely enjoy The Beths. Alex Lahey is a good point of comparison, and not just because they're both female-fronted ANZ artists.

As expected, one day has more of an indie rock flavor while the other focuses more upon Americana-adjacent artists...except for Phantogram on Lord Huron/TBT day.
got my saturday ticket! basically all acts i wanted to see on the lineup aside from LH and Phantogram are that day so it worked out. glad i didnt get a sigur ros ticket either
Did anyone here go last year? I'm assuming that, given that the "grounds" are a football field, that it's a one-artist-at-a-time festival, switching off between two side by side or opposite ends of the field stages with a food truck area and a cluster of porta-potties.
I can't imagine that the space is large enough for two concurrent stages and that it will operate like the earliest editions of Boston Calling where you could see everyone on the poster, right up until they set up the original local band stage on the other side of City Hall.
The website mentions that curfew is 9:45 pm, which means that sets will be short unless they have a local band stage running at the same time as a main stage.

There were only 8 artists last year, this year is 12 per day, so i don't think it'll operate the same way. They're going to need 2 stages, just a question of how it works. I'd guess there's a small second one with local bands playing while the main stage has set turnover.

So maybe the bottom 4 or 5 each day play the smaller stage in-between (pun, maybe, intended) main stage turnover and they keep a similar schedule as last year for the main stage? I like that idea, as I would hate if there was a conflict between Sunny Day and The Beths.
if it's set up how i'm thinking about it, (and i know nothing so i could be way off,) the second stage would be fairly tiny, like Boston Calling Orange stage compared to say the Blue or Red stage -sized main stage, so it would almost definitely be locals-only. There's no way the top 3-4 names on each day wouldn't play the main stage. And i assume you'll be able to clearly see/hear both stages from most spots in the stadium anyway, kinda like old Govt Center Boston Calling.

i would imagine the real answer would be that two big stages cost more than 1 big and 1 small.
again, we have no clue how it will actually be set up... but i would think that in my theoretical scenario, whoever is on the small stage in between SDRE and Modest Mouse (sure let's say its Slothrust) would have 30min tops, even if SDRE gets a full hour and MM a solid 90min. the small stage would be 30min every set because its just local band filler during main stage set changes.
but also, yeah, maybe it's two identical stages that alternate like old BC and it'll just go in the exact order of the poster. i guess we'll find out sooner or later.
(and for the record, i genuinely think Boston Calling would be better set-up with the Orange Stage somewhere on that same field area as the Blue, since they already alternate and artists on both stages would get larger crowds as a result. but that's a topic for a different thread, haha.)

BTW, you might then wind up double dipping on Fantastic Cat. They're playing In Between Days and then opening for Low Cut Connie at the Sinclair.

What I didn't know, and wish I had, was that at most of the eight home games each season, he has a fairly well-known band from the 70's - 90's play and the concert is included in the cost of the ticket. This season alone (they happen in the spring), they brought in The English Beat, Crash Test Dummies, and Orleans, among others. This is usually done in conjunction with a theme night. He mentioned possibly bringing in Winger next season for an 80's hair metal theme night.

Good interview and I didn't know about the connection to the Free Jacks. May need to check out a game next season! Good to hear that future editions will be "at least three days", which seems to indicate that this year's edition is selling/sold well.
Looking forward to this festival. The top 8 are solid (Illiterate Light are surprisingly good for a 2 piece rock act (also slightly biased since they are alum from the same VA college as me (JMU)), and Slothrust are great.

I like the direction this festival is going. This could become a “Pitchfork East”- an Indie/alternative festival for the east coast. Cripes even Nelsonville Music Festival runs three days, far from a major population center.
