Yeah Diljit has like 30+ dancers on stage at points - I've been watching his shows. Gobi is a non-starter. I think he'd be awkward on the main stage because unlike Grupo Firme, or even the acts from eastern Asian countries, it's not like there are so many similar acts on the poster where he'd draw a big crowd - but the outdoor is the smallest stage he can reasonably play while keeping his show.
Also re: Sahara, I think it is nuts that on a year that is super sparse with bigger hip-hop names that we are assuming Chemical Brothers, Underworld, Prydz, Porter Robinson, Tale of Us, Whyte Fang, Kaytranada, *and* 2manydjs will all be elsewhere. AND assuming the Yuma runs 9-10 DJs a day which it certainly has sometimes...but certainly hasn't at other times, like Sunday of last year where only seven DJs played. If just one DJ from the cluster of Boris, TESTPILOT, Idris, maybe even Camelphat played the Sahara, I definitely wouldn't be shocked.
Yeah Chris + FISHER are confirmed for outdoor so certainly that will be in play for some of these other guys, and yes Calvin is way too big for the Sahara, but on a year where they went all in on big electronic spectacle and all out on the types of 21 Savage/Post Malone/Wiz/Big Sean names that have occupied late Sahara sets, I really wouldn't be surprised if at least half of that list I mentioned does end up in the Sahara, plus that would free later Mojave slots for acts like Chromeo or SOFI who look at little lost out there on the set times now.
Yeah I’m surprised more people aren’t pushing for chemical brothers in the Sahara vs Bad Bunny
Personally I just think it's a bad fit. They have no use for the production in there. I'd be pretty surprised if they were anywhere besides Outdoor or Mojave.
I do wish they'd gone full throwback with the electronic on the poster and added "in the dance tent" to one or two of these acts. That'd have been fun.
EDIT: I can't figure out how to embed an image but it's a screenshot of Prydz liking a tweet saying that Outdoor would be best and Sahara would be suboptimal for HOLO: imgur.com/a/1gdxKxh
he doesn't like a ton on Twitter and does seem to be doing it himself, rather than liking every tweet where he's mentioned. I think this should make us default to Outdoor until we hear otherwise

is TESTPILOT enough of a "name" to put in sahara vs the yuma with people thinking "oh it's deadmau5 i wanna see that" that could potentially draw more people. idk work is boring today just throwing that out there. i get he's not mau5 and it's totally different music

Diljit could play Main without too much trouble IMO, but agree he needs to be there or Outdoor.
I know I've been in the "Boris could play Yuma" camp, but I agree. The way Sunday is shaking out I think Boris plays the Sahara.
I do think the mega DJs have moved to the Outdoor pretty consistently at this point. I think in addition to the Fisher/Chris Lake set, Calvin (and now Prydz with that semi-confirmation) will also be out there. Porter's show also feels like it'd be outside, and the Chems production makes more sense on the Outdoor IMO. but Porter or the Chems could be in Sahara I think, along with Underworld.
there were/are reasonable to strong arguments for Prydz on Outdoor, Sahara, or Mojave -- that's why we've spent so much time talking about it. I just think the liked tweet tips us over to Outdoor.
the Mojave is literally the Sahara tent that was used prior to the megastructure. it's even in the same place now. plenty of big acts can play there now.

this is interesting. Mojave still seems like the best place for the forced perspective, but if it's gonna be HOLO without any of the overhead stuff, outdoor would work.
It's hard to imagine chem's production in sahara. idk shiz about tech but would the lasers work? i feel like the perspective would be easily skewed. setup/takedown for the robots seems more like outdoor caliber.

the tweet says Outdoor would be best for the forced perspective and Prdyz liked it, so I'm not sure that tracks. I also don't think Prydz would do it without the overhead stuff -- modified for the stage maybe, but I think he's bringing the real show, not a stripped down version for the festival. he's been picky enough about where he does it to strongly suggest he wouldn't compromise on the presentation.

maybe the like was more about it NOT being sahara than confirming outdoor.

gonna be honest, this feels like motivated reasoning. if we're gonna count the tweet for anything, we should read it to mean Outdoor.

Honestly if it weren't for Calvin on the same day, main too.
Get Yung Lean out of the Sahara expeditionsly Would be shocked if Tobe is in the Sahara too Gobi too small for Marc Rebillet I don't think they'll have Blondie in the sun (they are old)

But OK, to further muddy this a bit, if you were unfamiliar with Coachella and only played it once and that was ten years ago, you see the word "outdoor", do you automatically know it is the Outdoor Theater and not just "outside"? It could even hint at main, although even without Calvin playing the main stage I'd say outdoor was more likely than main. Just that it is kind of vague.
If it's outdoor then that pretty much guarantees at least heavy overlap between BLACKPINK and Prydz which is like my worst possible fear, but completely reasonable to expect.

maybe so, but being billed the same as Aphex it just seems obvious to me that it's gonna be Underworld -> Prydz just like Four Tet -> Aphex, and to a lesser extent 2manydjs -> underworld. I guess we'll find out eventually.

so if we move Prydz to close Outdoor, Kid Laroi goes to Sahara right?
I also believe BLACKPINK v Prydz is going to be minimal overlap if any, yes Calvin Harris makes the overall billing/schedule a bit unusual but that's still a 1v3 (in terms of billing) which never happens. And I think those are both showcase bookings on this day. Underworld vs BLACKPINK feels a lot more likely to me

Some notes on current mocks, I have many issues with Saturday:
* I don't think we're going to get Diljit Dosanjh in the Gobi. The guy plays arenas and has a big band + group of dancers on stage with him, and he's billed quite high. He doesn't seem to have much of a light show or anything like that. I think he'll get a showcase on the main or outdoor around 3-5pmish. * I think our Saturday outdoor is way too spaced out. None of those three artists to close out the main need the Outdoor to be silent. In 2015 when Jack White didn't close the main, the Outdoor was going the entire time. * Chromeo played late afternoon on the main last time they played, and it was weird. I'm not sure why they'd book them to do essentially the same thing again. I'd kinda like them to go where Yaeji is in the Sahara, move Yaeji to Diljit's spot, move Diljit to Chromeo's spot. * Giving Sofi Tukker a worse time slot when they last played, despite a higher billing now, seems...odd. If we add more overlap between outdoor and main, they could go after Boygenius on the Outdoor.
- I'm fine moving Diljit. I don't see him pulling a very big crowd at Coachella, which is why I still personally think a tent could make sense, but we can move him.
- We can move things around and have someone on the Outdoor vs Blackpink. Who do we think makes the most sense to end up with that slot?
- So Chromeo is actually pretty fucking small these days. I was on direct support for them at their last show in SF (granted it was a DJ set), but it was only an 800 or so person venue, and (sadly) their crowd was pretty damn tiny by the end of the night. I have a hard time picturing them getting slotted for the Sahara in 2023.
- I had a whole thing written out about Sofi Tukker and how their last slot going against Khalid, Gesaffelstein and Gucci Gang was less than desirable...but I just realized that my last edit (where I swapped Sofi Tukker and Chromeo) didn't save. Fixing that now.

(I still think Underworld Sahara is fine given they played there last time, but Mojave is better).
Last time Underworld played the Sahara it wasn't the massive mega-structure it is today. I would have an extremely hard time seeing them putting Underworld in the "new" Sahara.
