For all we know Prydz thinks the Sahara is like the Yuma and is like no I need the normal outside festival stage people use
Yeah, I mean, this is fair as well. The Mojave is outdoors.
Is there a list of where he's done this show before? I found Creamfields (looks a lot like our Mojave) and Tomorrowland (kind of a warehouse looking place) but that's it.
I don't think Prydz was actually confirming a stage by liking that tweet, but it doesn't really matter -- he WAS confirming he can do it outside (which has been a debate, and we can scratch that) and that he doesn't want to do it in the Sahara.
I still think he could play the Mojave, but considering where he's billed, Outdoor Stage makes more sense.
Wait, are we sure that him simply liking a Tweet asking about the difference between an two stages at Coachella means that it's confirmed he can do it outside? Again, I'm fine moving him to the Outdoor if he can make it happen there, but I'm not totally sure that him liking that tweet means he is able to do it there.
The tweet is slightly more than that. It was in a conversation about where Prydz would play, where the tweeter was responding to someone asking; Prydz only liked the follow up tweet. The thread is in the replies to Prydz’s tweet of the lineup poster. And Prydz is familiar with the stages at Coachella.
We can decide it means nothing, but I think the way he conducts himself on his socials says otherwise.
Chris Lake said that coachella has some information to announce regarding their set and now Holo seems to be outdoor. Maybe outdoor is covered this year

Get Yung Lean out of the Sahara expeditionsly Would be shocked if Tobe is in the Sahara too Gobi too small for Marc Rebillet I don't think they'll have Blondie in the sun (they are old)
- If we move Yung Lean out of the Sahara, who do we move in?
- Same question goes for Tobe. Not sure why we don't think either of those acts could wind up in the Sahara.
- Disagree about Rebillet. Marc is decently big, but having done direct support for him on a couple shows now, he isn't really playing to massive crowds, even in bigger markets.
- We currently have Blondie in the David Byrne sunset slot, which is decidedly not in the sun. This was the opening of Byrne's set at pretty much the exact time we have Blondie scheduled for:
Yung Lean in the Mojave. Nothing about his music feels like the Sahara. My probably unpopular opinion is that Charli XCX would be perfect for the Sahara, I hope she's in there. But you could swap in Marc at an earlier time? Underworld?
Tobe's live show doesn't look like it's something that would be in the Sahara. I personally feel like Tobe will be outside starting between 4-5pm. His whole album aesthetic is being in the sun with A LOT of dancers (look at all of his music videos for his recent album + his live shows). He also brings a live band. I guess Sahara is possible but I feel like he'll be outside or Mojave. Could put Tobe where Pusha T is and that's perfect.
Blondie is more energetic than David but I guess it's not the height of heat at that time
Charli would also be a blast in there! Hope it happens.
While I’d love to see loop daddy at Sahara, I dont think he’s big enough. He’ll definitely be at a tent. I saw him close the small stage at Lollapalooza and there was hardly anybody in the crowd

Not only this, but I really don't think his brand of vocal looping makes much sense for the Sahara. I'd bet he's destined for Gobi or Mojave at best.

I posted this on the previous page, but what about this set he did last month in NY doesn't seem Sahara friendly to you?
I don't have an issue moving Tobe out of the Sahara for now. Will work on that tomorrow.
I also think The Kid Laroi makes the most sense in the Sahara
Billed similar to Big Sean (who didnt even close) and 21 last year
I don't think he is as big as someone like Travis in 2017 when he closed the outdoors
I guess I just don't understand the reasoning as to why we should move Kid Laroi, the act who has more streams than anyone else the ENTIRE lineup (outside of Calvin and Rosalia), into the Sahara. If there the Outdoor was super jammed with acts that just HAD to play late on the Outdoor at night (like on the night Post Malone closed the Sahara in 2018) then I would understand a bit more....but for Kid Laroi in 2023 I don't see the reasoning.

Fair enough. We can try moving him there and see how it look for next weeks mock templates. Personally I hope he winds up on the Outdoor, though the "Prydz Mojave" camp is very adamant in their stance.
Is there a strong reason why she shouldn't be in the Sonora? / Who should be in her slot instead?
TV Girl. They fit the Sonora better than Magdalena Bay despite their slightly higher billing.
We originally had TV Girl in the Sonora, but someone brought up that they might be too big for the Sonora. I know I go back to Spotify plays for metrics far too often, but they have 8.5 mil average monthly listeners. Have we ever had a Sonora act (outside of that random late surprise R.O.C. add) with that big of a following play the Sonora?

Didn't Birdyman have a 2 or 3pm Outdoor slot last time he played? It was hot as hell but still a great time. If Mark isn't in the Gobi my bet is early Outdoor.

I think with Prydz on Outdoor it's going to get crowded there, I won't insist on it if you can make it work without Laroi Sahara but I think it's far more likely than you are giving it credit for.
Again, the streaming numbers are being entirely carried by Bieber and Stay. And there's actually a pattern of Sahara ending with hip hop on Saturdays now, for several years. 2018 - blackbear into Post Malone (bigger than Laroi). 2019 - Wiz Khalifa into Cudi (bigger than Laroi). 2022 - Isaiah Rashad into 21 Savage (bigger than Laroi).
I somewhat doubt it goes $uicideboy$ and Kid Laroi b2b in Sahara since that's two second liners, but if you look at billing I guarantee one of them will be closing Sahara and the other will probably be main stage prior to Rosalía. Having Laroi close Outdoor would be more of a pattern break than Sahara imo, if you think he's too big to play there then he should go main.

I agree with this. Prydz as outdoor close makes way more sense than Kid Laroi

I think we're probably putting a bit too much weight into their Spotify numbers. There are bands with less Spotify listeners that won't be in the Sonora. They outperform Wet Leg in that regard but nobody here thinks they should be in the Sonora over TV Girl. TV Girl is of course popular and would pack out the Sonora but that doesn't preclude them from playing in there. I think Molchat Doma last year might be a better comparison. They, just like TV Girl, sold out multiple LA dates on a run and still played the Sonora.

I would rather see TV Girl in the Gobi, but I agree with this. In terms of popularity in the Sonora, I would say Cuco was comparable (if not bigger), and he played to a full Sonora but not one that people couldn’t get into or anything like that.

Putting the 3rd (4th if you count Calvin) billed artist on the 4th biggest stage seems super unlikely, especially considering it's EDM and the production he'll have. The only other recent examples of someone billed that high and playing the Mojave is Jamiroquai and New Order but we can safely assume the Prydz crowd will be much bigger than those.
That being said, I do think The Chemical Brothers fit within that Jamiroquai/New Order range so they're a candidate to close out the Mojave. If they're going to be given a longer set too, Mojave would be the best stage for that.
I see Blondie in a tent maybe closing against Bad Bunny like New Order did in 2017 or Pet Shop Boys did in 2014.
And move FKJ to Outdoor maybe. FKJ > Kaytranada > Chem Bros
don’t really agree with either of these. Blondie is much more likely to get the David Byrne set time IMO, and that feels like a strange slot for FKJ and a very weird Outdoor.
If 100 gets/Emo Nite can play Sahara so can Marc, even though he can easily play Gobi/Mojave.
But yeah Yung Lean and Tobe are not going to be in Sahara.
Kid Laroi is absolutely not more popular than Post, Migos, Cudi when they did Sahara. It’s a less extreme version of Alessia Cara when we had her on like the main because she had 30m listeners and then she played the Gobi and was fine. He’s infinitely more popular than Alessia but he’s being carried by one massive song. He’s fine there.
Charli would also be a blast in there! Hope it happens.

His counter programing was rough tho. iirc is was Post Malone vs Journey vs Slander. I saw him at Roo last year and his 2am tent set had a huge crowd.

Yeah, I thought about New Order with Blondie but that wasn't their first time playing the festival; it was less of a one-off rarity that they'd want to showcase. Outdoor sunset just feels perfect for Blondie.

My argument wasn't that Kid Laroi is more popular than those acts. If you recall, Saturday 2018, there were 3 acts that essentially needed to play the Outdoor (Byrne, Fleet Foxes and Alt-J) which forced Post to be either on the Main or Sahara, and the Main was also much too packed for him to wind up there. And then 2019, Kid Cudi specifically requested to play the Sahara, even though they were trying to schedule him for the Main.
But it appears I'm alone on this one, so we can move Kid Laroi to the Sahara and Prydz to the Outdoor.
