We originally had TV Girl in the Sonora, but someone brought up that they might be too big for the Sonora. I know I go back to Spotify plays for metrics far too often, but they have 8.5 mil average monthly listeners. Have we ever had a Sonora act (outside of that random late surprise R.O.C. add) with that big of a following play the Sonora?
I think we're probably putting a bit too much weight into their Spotify numbers. There are bands with less Spotify listeners that won't be in the Sonora. They outperform Wet Leg in that regard but nobody here thinks they should be in the Sonora over TV Girl. TV Girl is of course popular and would pack out the Sonora but that doesn't preclude them from playing in there. I think Molchat Doma last year might be a better comparison. They, just like TV Girl, sold out multiple LA dates on a run and still played the Sonora.
Yup to all of this, especially the Wet Leg portion. Putting them in the Sonora isn't an option at this point.
I posted this on the previous page, but what about this set he did last month in NY doesn't seem Sahara friendly to you?

I don't really get the high energy from this still. I guess it's possible though. Especially if they feel like his crowd would be too big for the Mojave.
Would it be possible to get Metro Outdoor? I think Chems can start an hour and a half later than that and you could fit another set on the stage. King Gizz started after Harry on Friday last year. I feel like everyone is underestimating Metro as the biggest rap act of the whole weekend.

I don't think anyone made the argument that one act being bigger than another means the smaller act will play the Sonora. Also are you comparing TV Girls 2022 tour to Molchat Domas 2022 tour? TV Girl has gotten A LOT bigger since last year.....but again if the majority of people think they should be moved back to the Sonora, we can do that.

Wasn't comparing the tours between the 2, but moreso the fact that I've haven't heard much buzz around TV Girl versus Wet Leg's rise, despite the streaming numbers

Right, but nobody ever thought or suggested that Wet Leg should play the Sonora. TME was comparing Molchat's LA sales to TV Girl's.

For 2022, Molchat Doma's LA run included sold out shows at The Fonda x2 and Garden Ampitheatre while TV Girl hit up The Novo and Fox Pomona which is pretty comparable. Also looking at Google Trends and Chartmetric, TV Girl had peak numbers in 2021.
All I'm saying is TV Girl is not too big to play the Sonora.
1. Alex G isn't going to play that early. I'd do a straight swap of him and Stick Figure. 2. Knocked Loose is probably our Sonora headliner. And besides, have we ever had a Sonora day with only 6 acts? The last three Sundays had 9 acts, 9 acts, 8 acts in the Sonora. We probably need multiple additional artists in there. I'd just bump everything on the Sonora 20 minutes earlier and add Knocked Loose to the end of it. They can play during Bjork. 3. I'd also put Paris Texas in the Sonora between Los Bitchos and El Michels Affair (who they're billed between). At the very least, they won't be playing the Mojave at 4:00pm. Their billing has them in the Gobi, no later than second act on the stage, if they're not in the Sonora. But we need at least 2 acts in the Sonora on this day and they fit there very well. 4. I think our Main/Outdoor set time blocking is too sparse. I don't think Jai Paul will play to a silent Main, at all, and I don't think Bjork will play to an almost-silent Outdoor. I'm not even sure Frank will have a completely silent Outdoor, although I think that's possible with Chris Lake/Fisher closing. But we should get another act into the mix, probably on the Main before Kali Uchis, and step on these big silent blocks of time to do it. The most obvious fits for me are Porter, Jackson Wang, or Christine & the Queens. I'd probably do Christine early because I think that set time is both brutal and weird for her (although she did take a billing demotion), but the main point is the big gaps. Especially for Jai Paul, which just doesn't seem possible nor necessary. 5. I've been convinced by looking at this day that Boris Brechja is coming out of the Yuma. I think we can put TSHA back in the Yuma and rearrange to have Boris outside later.

Especially agreed on Boris Brejcha moving out of the Yuma. Initially I thought he'd be there but knowing he's also playing Red Rocks around the same time makes me think he'll be touring with a production of some sort (and his recent live vids like this one seem to support this).

1. Agreed and done
2. Moved Knocked Loose into the Sonora 2nd to last
3. We had only 8 poster acts play the Sonora on Sunday last year, so I don't think we need to move another act (Paris Texas) in there.
4. Last year Sunday, the Outdoor was basically just as sparse as we have it now. I don't see why we should have more quiet acts like Frank, Bjork or Jai Paul play against something on the opposing stage if we didn't have it. Sunday of 2019 was also similarly sparsely blocked as well.
5. Should we move Boris or Gordo out of the Yuma? I'm good with either. EDIT: Seems like people want Boris back in the Sahara, will do that.

on Paris Texas, I think the case for them being in the Sonora is strong based on music style and billing alone. Based on the fact that we need 1-2 more acts in there anyway based on historical practice (point taken that not all of them need to be on the poster, but that still leaves space for one more from the poster anyway), I think it's a slam dunk.
Re: the Outdoor/Main, I don't really agree with last year as a precedent for this setup. There were 2 longer-than-normal gaps on the Main and Outdoor in 2022, between the last two acts on each stage, so that the Outdoor and Main could alternate back and forth without much overlap (there was still 10 minutes of overlap on both Joji/Doja Cat & Jamie xx/SHMeeknd). 2019 had a similar setup; 2018 Sunday had basically no such gaps. Right now, we have both of those longer-than-normal gaps w/ 15 minutes of overlap, but also a third longer-than-normal gap to protect Jai Paul on the Outdoor.
Maybe they do this because of rarity, but I don't think Jai Paul's music is anywhere near anything that needs to be protected from sound bleed (do people really think of it as soft?). And doing it this way really cramps the flow of the other stages, because the acts all have to go somewhere. I think we should schedule it for another act to be there, or at the very least without the weird gap. I think there's space for another artist though, and it makes the day work a lot better if we do it.

If we move both Knocked Loose and Paris Texas into the Sonora, we would have 8 Sonora acts vs 7 Mojave and 6 Gobi acts, which seems unlikely.
While Jai Paul has both quiet and loud stuff, he is quite literally the most rare act Coachella has ever billed. It's kind of impossible to compare him to any previous Coachella acts for comparison, but I would be pretty surprised if they someone on the Main bleeding into first (and possibly only) set ever.

so uh, are we thinking there are going to be additions to this thing? right now we've got all the stages starting 90 min - 2 hours later than they ever have in the past

I made a separate mock based on a template I had of the 2022 schedule and noticed the same thing, there’s like comparatively 8-10 missing acts.

could mean either additions or we get a full 1h15-1h30 set from the subs this time around or longer sets in general. which id be fine with
Friday: Doechii -> BENEE -> DOMi & JD BECK -> Blondie -> listen to Kaytranada from the food court to take a break -> Metro Boomin -> Tobe Nwigwe -> Bad Bunny Would miss: Burna Boy, Gorillaz
Saturday: UMI -> EARTHGANG -> Charli XCX -> Hiatus Kaiyote-> DinnerParty or boygenius -> Rosalia -> chill tf out -> BLACKPINK from a distance or Marc Rebillet -> Snail Mail -> Calvin Harris Would miss: Labrinth, Flo Milli, Kenny Beats, Diljit, Shenseea, $B
Sunday: IDK -> Pi'erre Bourne (if it's a producer set) -> Jackson Wang -> Sundan Archives or Christine & The Queens -> Jai Paul -> Kali Uchis -> Bjork -> Frank Ocean Would miss: Foushee, DPR, Noname, Sasha Alex Sloan, WILLOW, Rae Sremmurd

Considering Friday has 9 less acts, and Saturday has 4 less this year compared to last year, as well as the fact that most poster acts that opened stages (not including the Yuma) started at 2, we're only 45-an hour off the times last year, which I think makes sense. We will get small stage opening late adds when the set times come out.

We also have 8 Sahara acts, which hasn't been done on Sunday since 2018. We also have 9 Yuma acts, which has been done on Sunday but on days where there were more acts that could not play outside of the Yuma; we currently have at least 2 that we've had mocked out of the Yuma in TSHA and Boris, and a third that's been discussed in Camelphat. Pull one act out of each stage, and there's your overflow.
(Separately, I thought we'd talked about leaving Gordo in the Yuma and pulling Boris. I'd leave Gordo in the Yuma over TSHA, Boris, and Camelphat, but I don't feel super strongly about it).
I don't really agree on Jai Paul, but I understand what you're saying. I think what you're saying is possible, but I think you're really overstating the danger of soundbleed from Dominic Fike or Kali Uchis. There's just not a ton of downside risk there, and the schedule is bending over backwards to accommodate that small risk. Feels wrong to me.
It feels like every year there are fewer acts on a day than the prior year and everybody thinks there will be adds and there aren’t any. I feel like Friday of 2015 didn’t even have 50 bands or something and all that happened is that a bunch of stages closed early.
