Charli in Sahara doesn't seem that farfetched. If Blackpink, 100 gecs, and any number of hip hop artists can play in there then she absolutely can as well. As a matter of fact I'd say she's a pretty perfect pop candidate for it.
Snail Mail on the other hand is probably too popular for Senora, right?
Just realized these still have Prydz in the Sahara, which I do think needs to change. Random maybe hot take ideas for making that happen:
Snail Mail to the Sonora Charli to the Sahara Yaeji to the Gobi Labrinth to the Mojave
And then there's room on the Outdoor for Prydz.
I feel like due to the overwhelming majority on the reddit poll, that at least for this week we had to put Prydz in the Sahara. I still definitely agree it's less likely than Outdoor or Mojave, and we can move him around for next weeks mock.
Not sure I super agree with your suggestions though. Labrinth is honestly going to pull one of the biggest crowds for the weekend. Was just talking to my sister yesterday (she's 26, and is definitely in Coachella's target audience) and she was saying the one act that is making her more than likely buy her ticket is literally just Labrinth. Obviously that's extremely anecdotal, but he is massive right now and I would be just about anything he wont end up in a tent. Also Charli in the Sahara feels wrong. I don't think it's impossible, but I sort of doubt she winds up there. If I'm alone on that one though, we can move things around.
I don't necessarily disagree with all that - like I said they were maybe hot takes haha. I do kind of like Charli in the Sahara; after she played Portola in the Warehouse it feels a little more plausible to me (and as Pea mentioned, Blackpink going there opens it up to pop a bit). This day just has a mess of acts that seemingly need to be mainstage or outdoor on the second line (plus Calvin), and she felt like a better Sahara act to me than Labrinth or Laroi.

Snail Mail's billed lower than Spiritualized was when he played the Sonora. Yes yes, he's an older act that would almost certainly draw a smaller crowd than SM, and I think it's unlikely, but I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility or anything, seemed like a fun suggestion to throw out there and free up gobi/mojave a bit. They've not really pushed the limits of Sonora in the way they do Yuma and I'm kind of waiting for them to do that.
Yeah, but since then we've learned not to take "Coachella Stage" as Main Stage confirmation. This is a pretty different situation.
Comparing liking a random tweet reply to a story repost seems quite a bit different, but if we want to, we can get rid of the Kali Uchis confirmation.
It’s a reasonable confirm! No reason to not treat it as such with the information you currently have available! If suddenly we hear Porter Robinson is also on the Main tho then we need to assess if what appeared reasonable was really just somebody saying she’s third on her day behind Bjork and Frank because that’s how they wanted to hype their client.
Oh I 100% agree. There is definitely a hierarchy when it comes to confirmations, and if we hear anything more concrete suggesting Kali Uchis should be elsewhere, we can definitely change it.

To be fair, the only 2 acts that have, (or really probably would) play the Sahara who played the Warehouse at Portola were Channel Tres and Duke Dumont. But yeah, I guess could see her in there, though I still feel like Outdoor at night makes a bit more sense.

Fair enough. We can move her around next week if people think Sahara makes the most sense.
If TV Girl can play the Sonora (which I still think isn't happening, but others disagree) then so can Snail Mail.
I don't really have any stakes in Snail Mail's placements. Consensus rules.
And while I do think Charli would be a great fit for the Sahara I admit I just kind of want her in there for personal reasons. I feel like her music would lend super well to that overstimulating environment.

The tents, and sometimes the main/outdoor, have the poster acts scheduled in what would have been the 2nd/3rd "poster band" slot from last year...feels like everything is just starting too late. Especially when you see acts like DRAMA and Snail Mail thrown against such prime programming, barring extra additions to the lineup, I think the reality is that some of these tents are going to end up closing at 11:30/12:00 and be empty against headliners.
Also think DannyLux in the Sonora is odd. Young guy doing acoustic guitar ballads. I can see him super early on the outdoor.

I mean, this is the nature of having 30 fewer acts than last year right now. Stuff is either going to start way later than usual, end way earlier than usual, or we're going to get a ton of adds sometime between now and Friday Weekend 1. Which basically means this exercise is more fraught than usual. But I do think it's better to err on the side of running late; maybe we take one act out of the midnight hour each day, but there should be at least 3 going then IMO.

Totally - I've said this before though, but this reminds me of Friday 2015 when there were far fewer acts than expected. We had everything starting late, and in reality the bands started at a normal time but by the end of the night it ended up with tons of empty tents. Outdoor closed by 10:30, Mojave closed by 11:00, Gobi closed by 12:00. The last hour was literally just the headliner and a Sahara DJ (unless MK played for three hours, doubt it).

That Friday is so weird. I can't believe I basically ended my night at 10:30 that night. A little FlyLo, ferris wheel ride during some AC/DC but mostly done after Terje. I would hate set times like this.
The counterpoint though would be: when was the last time poster acts started before noon? Because that Friday has multiple poster acts (not set time late adds) starting before noon, and I could be wrong but it feels like it's been awhile since they've had poster acts start before even 1pm. I'd rather favor the years of history than just an outlier year with some very odd times.

That was basically my Sunday in 2015. After Gesaffelstein, I kinda just roamed the fields away from Drake hoping and failing to find something to draw me in. Never had a worse taste in my mouth leaving Coachella on a Sunday. Weeknd fans camping Jack White super deep into the main stage field and effectively ruining that set the night before added to the bad taste. Tried using my best main stage tactics to get a better spot and was blocked everywhere by people who didn't seem to know one song and just wanted to talk over it the entire time. I've always thought that was the worst scheduled Coachella weekend I've been to.

Yeah after Gorgon --> Terje I watched some AC/DC from the beer garden, and then eventually tried to go to Alesso but the crowd was so crazy far outside the Sahara that I gave up and just went home.
A less extreme version of 2015 though is 2019 - Saturday Mojave shut down after Aphex Twin at 10:30, and both Gobi/Mojave were dark from 12-1. Mojave was quiet from 11:30-1:00 on Friday. Gobi was quiet Sunday from 10:30-12:00. There it looks like poster acts were starting 1:30ish.
My preference is always for all stages to go to close, just saying that it isn't always that way.
Lol what’s wrong with you guys? AC/DC was fun as hell, and even if you take yourself too seriously to enjoy that how could you skip Squarepusher?
Hah fair enough - I watched easily an hour and a half of AC/DC, maybe longer - they played for like 2.5 hours that year I think. Most of my group stayed for the whole thing, my wife and I were still riding that Gorgon City --> part of Caribou now that I'm looking at the set times --> Terje electronic dance party ride that probably in whatever mental state I was in at that time I thought catching the end of Alesso would be the move. Like I said I never even got close to the tent and then I was just defeated and went home.

Regarding all the talk about fewer acts/potentially fewer late-night options, what about DESPACIO? Wouldn't that, in theory, also run pretty late? Admittedly don't remember its schedule in 2016.

despite it saying all weekend long it'll probably end before 8
