Lol what’s wrong with you guys? AC/DC was fun as hell, and even if you take yourself too seriously to enjoy that how could you skip Squarepusher?
yeah I was looking back on that schedule and reminiscing about how much fun I had. standing next to Killer Mike at George Ezra/Sylvan Esso/Azealia/Ride/TWoD/Lykke Li/Steely Dan/Todd Terje/ACDC was a great day!

Honestly, I think AC/DC is fun but they were never anywhere near a bucketlist act for me. This might sound stupid but their music wasn’t on Spotify at the time, which meant I just didn’t spend much effort getting pumped up for it. I’m happy with the 30-45 mins I saw, but I don’t really regret leaving either. GNR was similar but I had even less interest there. If Metallica ever plays, it’ll be the same again. Just not acts that are in my wheelhouse of classic rock, it is what it is.
Can’t explain squarepusher other than to say there are a lot of acts from coachellas over the years I’ve regretted not getting into in retrospect. Had zero interest in Alesso.

I was at almost all of those and was a tremendous day! My wife’s first day of coachella ever, and it lived up to expectations. Just weird looking back realizing how early I called it. In my mind Terje ended at like midnight haha.
Okay, so while trying to put Prydz back on the Outdoor, I'm running into some issues that are making me lean toward "Prydz in the Mojave" camp. Someone look at the clashfinder updates for Saturday, now with Prydz on the Outdoor, and tell me how we would make this look better if we keep him there...because right now, the Sahara and Main/Outdoor spacing looks super wrong to me.

Well I highly disagree with Charli XCX being in the Sahara so that might be throwing things off. I do think we should take a hint from last year's Sahara schedule and maybe consider artists who are dancey/electronic who aren't EDM or hip-hop but Charli XCX doesn't fit that IMO. Since Yaeji was supposed to be in the Sahara back in 2020, I'd move her back in there. If we're looking for someone to occupy a Sahara slot that's in the area of 100 gecs/Channel Tres of last year, my vote would be Chromeo.
The Yuma this day is kinda tricky too. I think NIA ARCHIVES should be in the Yuma as her style of music probably fits that stage better and would be kind of odd in the Sahara. The Yuma is packed this day though so maybe someone needs to move out? Monolink was supposed to be in there in 2020 but if it's a live set, maybe he's in another tent instead? Hot Since 82 has also played the Yuma so many times already so maybe he'll graduate to another tent too.
WhoMadeWho is also someone who I initially thought would be in the Yuma. I figured they were a lock for Coachella since Framework has been booking them pretty often for events and would bring them to the Yuma. They've mostly been doing hybrid live/DJ sets recently which can work in the Yuma. So overall, my Yuma suggestions for this day would be to move Hot Since 82 or Monolink out of the Yuma and add both NIA ARCHIVES and WhoMadeWho, bringing the Yuma acts to 10 which is feasible. DJ Tennis + Carlita doesn't need that long of a set so they can sacrifice some of their time to make room for them.
On that same note, I definitely think Uncle Waffles should go in the Yuma on Friday. Yeah I know it's a different vibe than what the Yuma is usually used to but Coachella has never had an amapiano DJ on the main lineup so this is new territory regardless. Different vibe or not, amapiano is African club music through and through and Yuma is a club stage. If Outside Lands could book Major League Djz for the Soma tent (basically their version of the Yuma) then I think Uncle Waffles can work in the Yuma too. I also don't think Uncle Waffles works in the Sahara right now either. And like Saturday, putting 10 DJs in there is doable.
So for the Sahara on Friday, I'd suggest moving Uncles Waffles to the Yuma, Kaytranada to the Outdoor then moving Whyte Fang and SG Lewis (dancey vibe to fit Sahara plus just played the Mojave in 2019) into the Sahara.

Agreed with the Charli thoughts. I'm very curious how you predict the Main, Outdoor, Sahara and Mojave will all look on Saturday after 7pm.
Truevine gave a soft confirmation regarding Nia Archives in the Sahara, so should we leave her in there for now?
Considering we have 9 acts in the Yuma each day (the usual number) I'm not sure we really need to squeeze room in the Yuma for WhoMadeWho.
If SG Lewis is going to be doing his live show, I have a hard time seeing him being placed in the Sahara:

Seeing this video of SG Lewis makes me think he would be a prime contender to play the Mojave and go against the Chems and Metro Boomin personally. I’m sure both groups would have crossover with his fan base, but he’s a repeat act that’s never played in the dark and he’s likely going to go against some of the bigger acts of the night.
If Hiatus and Rosalia are really on the same stage, I wonder if it’s outdoor. For whatever reason Rosalia on the outdoor makes more sense to me than Hiatus on the main. HK seems like 4:30ish outdoor act and they don’t have anywhere near the fan base or sound to carry the main.

someone else confirmed Rosalia for the main, although I get where you’re coming from here. I do think the subs are all gonna play right before the headliners though — just doesn’t happen otherwise at this festival, even when we think it makes sense. It’s only The Knife who ever didn’t play right before the headliner right?

You’re right on that re: The Knife. That being said we are kind of in uncharted waters with both the new billing and Calvin. I just have such a hard time picturing HK on the main. They seem like a band that could play so many other stages at so many other times and it would be better for them. I’d buy it more on Kali/Bjork/Frank day, just a continual vibe, but seems a weirder fit for Rosalia/BP/Calvin day. But billing wise you’re right, Rosalia seems like a main stage dunk.

Oddly I actually think they’d be a nice early afternoon chill out on the field with a joint MainStage set (Outdoor prob better, but Main fine). Could stick them where Cadillacs are now, bump Cadillacs to be in the earlier slot on the main. Stuff that’s on before 5pm doesn’t need to line up vibe-wise with the top acts at all, not that many people are camping out at 3:30 for a headliner and especially not on this day.

Fair enough but, and maybe I'm reading them wrong, they just don't seem like they will have anything more than a "sparse but respectable" crowd at best, and super small at worst - when they could easily pack the Gobi and probably draw well in the Mojave. But hey, if they're early enough one less conflict for me!

While I feel like the most obvious choice is to put Rosalia on the Main, where was this actually confirmed?

I agree that the Main seems a bit weird form Haitus, but I think if they got a 3:30ish slot (where we have Los Fabulosos Cadillacs), I don't think that's any more weird than say Bonobo on the Main Stage at 4:45 in 2017.

Idk if anyone else confirmed it but I can confirm as of December Rosalia was scheduled for Main. You can PM me for my source

I think Cadillacs would get the later main stage slot over Haitus though, no?

Lots of early afternoon main slots have been head scratchers over the years. I doubt anyone thought MIKA in 22 was headed for the main. While I think Masego has one song that’s decently well know I don’t see him being that much different from having HK there.

Hiatus is billed higher than Cadillacs, so that inherently has me assuming they'd be later, though it's a small enough billing difference that it could go either way. Los Angeles Azules and Los Tucanes de Tijuana also both opened the main, so having Cadillacs open the main tracks with that.
Somebody on Reddit claiming more acts are going to be added/announced to which you’ll say “fucking Reddit” and to which I’ll say “the one guy actually had the inside scoop on when the poster was coming out while we were in shambles”.
But Friday is light, GV did tweet then delete that What So Not will be at Coach, they need buzz to move tickets and there is at least $8m worth of RiRi money sitting there so if we want to look like savants you might as well throw Diplo and Jason Bentley in there somewhere. High risk high reward and all that.

Beyoncé - In the Dance Tent would certainly move some tickets
I just don’t know who could get added that would help minus headliner or sub level acts
Would it help in the short term… probably not… but adding a bunch of strong mid card names last second could potentially help presale 2024 numbers. If I were set up to take a loss this year after years of financial growth then my strategy would be focused on maximizing presale 2024 numbers even at the cost of taking on additional short term losses for 2023. No guarantee the economy is going to be better this time next year, and we all know this fest isn’t getting any cheaper. They need to remind people that this is the “best” music festival in the world, and generate max FOMO which gets people to purchase on payment plans in June. Lots of different ways to get that IMO.

Agreed, though sometimes they do add stuff anyway (Pixies/Casablancas in 2014, Arcade Fire last year). I do think it's interesting that they continued talking to Rihanna up through January; if she were just totally opposed to the idea you'd think she'd have made that clear earlier. And the fact that there's a DJ in the "returning" slot who she could perform with (a la Weeknd last year) opens up possibilities. But like, expecting them to add Rihanna is silly.
