I just don’t know who could get added that would help minus headliner or sub level acts
Hypothetically speaking, you’re mostly right but:
1) Dropping a surprise announcement of 15ish acts that could be third line and fourth line generates a wave of buzz that shifts focus back on the festival and can get somebody back in - ie, “man can I really swing this, I want to see Porter and FISHER, oh wait now ZHU and REZZ are there? Fuck it, I’m in.” A headliner would be needed to convert a new attendee but they could probably swing “on the fence” people.
2) The biggest acts have their slots negotiated but most others don’t. There’s room in the Sahara, for sure, to demote a cannon fodder “going against Calvin” act to Sahara at 5:00 and slot in a big rapper or DJ.
3) ETA: Billing wise they were creative already, you could slide Jaz’s Skrillex and Fred to Returning to the Desert, etc
Ultimately I’m sure this won’t happen but as Braun said if there’s a year it would, this would be it.
That would sell tickets but would it sell enough to offset their booking fee (assuming min 750K per weekend or 1K tickets per weekend)
I was half-joking with Skrillex and Fred again.. but I'm not sure the relationship between booking fee is that linear. I imagine that just in general the impact of any given act on the number of tickets sold decreases as more and more of the lineup is booked. Either way I imagine they're mostly focused on pushing "maybes" to "yeses", and I think that could be done with the right mix of acts.
Somebody on Reddit claiming more acts are going to be added/announced to which you’ll say “fucking Reddit” and to which I’ll say “the one guy actually had the inside scoop on when the poster was coming out while we were in shambles”.
But Friday is light, GV did tweet then delete that What So Not will be at Coach, they need buzz to move tickets and there is at least $8m worth of RiRi money sitting there so if we want to look like savants you might as well throw Diplo and Jason Bentley in there somewhere. High risk high reward and all that.
Do you have the link for that Reddit post?
Edit: Found it, nvm

Better luck than me cause I can’t find that anywhere on Reddit.
I think Cadillacs would get the later main stage slot over Haitus though, no?
Hiatus is billed higher than Cadillacs, so that inherently has me assuming they'd be later, though it's a small enough billing difference that it could go either way. Los Angeles Azules and Los Tucanes de Tijuana also both opened the main, so having Cadillacs open the main tracks with that.
I could be wrong here of course, but I think Cadillacs are a bit bigger than Haitus. Haitus is billed higher, but only by 2 names, Hiatus has 1.2 mil monthly on Spotify vs Cadillacs 5.2. On top of that, both Azules and Tucanes may have opened the main, but they were on closer to 3:30, which is closer to the slot that we currently have Cadillacs in.
I'm definitely not glued to this though, and if I'm in the minority here, we can go with your suggestion.
What are the general thoughts as far as how things look later on Friday now that we moved Kaytra back to the Outdoor? Personally I think this looks pretty accurate.

I'm not married to either order, I think both are totally defensible, and I don't think it has much impact on the rest of the set times, just explaining why I had Hiatus after Cadillacs

Yeah I actually think HK opening the main is perfect and cute. It’s not like Main at 230 is a prime spot just cause it’s a big stage. That shit is hot and exhausting lol. And I think they make the music to get people there and for people to enjoy if they never heard them to get a happy start to the day
someone else confirmed Rosalia for the main, although I get where you’re coming from here. I do think the subs are all gonna play right before the headliners though — just doesn’t happen otherwise at this festival, even when we think it makes sense. It’s only The Knife who ever didn’t play right before the headliner right?
While I feel like the most obvious choice is to put Rosalia on the Main, where was this actually confirmed?
tbh it was a random Reddit comment from someone who said they were connected to Rosalia somehow, I don't remember much about it and I couldn't find it on a quick search. But I'd trust WhyTheLongFace over my memory of a Reddit comment anyway

Agreed. plus, long storied tradition of putting less-than-perfect fits on the Main in the afternoon. Although even more so, I think we just have a super narrow conception of what fits on Main in the afternoon; someone has to play the stage, I think Hiatus works pretty well.

Can you send? Apparently I am a dummy but I can't find it
What are the general thoughts as far as how things look later on Friday now that we moved Kaytra back to the Outdoor? Personally I think this looks pretty accurate.
just scrubbing it with semi-fresh eyes, some thoughts:
it seems like a very overbilled Outdoor. Yves is halfway up the third line and they're the lowest billed act on the stage, opening as the lowest billed poster act. That virtually has to be wrong; W2 last year we had The Hu (sixth line), Beach Bunny (fifth line), and Mariah the Scientist (last line) opening the Outdoor. Only one of the next acts on the Outdoor was a third liner (Omar Apollo on Friday), the other two were Chelsea Cutler (fifth line) and Yola (very end of sixth line).
Three third liners and three second liners would be historically stacked. I think we're right with Kaytra Chems and Blondie, so I'd look at rotating Pusha, Yves, or Wet Leg off. Wet Leg feels like they could be afternoon Main to me, Pusha could be at night in a tent, Yves could play a lot of different places but Outdoor afternoon feels right to me for some reason (EDIT: think I'm analogizing to JPEGmafia, which seemed like it worked pretty well in a similar slot Friday 2019). I'd be adding something like Saba (feels most likely to me), The Comet is Coming (they've done jazz out there before, even if I think they're better off in a mid-afternoon tent), Gabriels (their music feels better suited to a tent but nothing that says this couldn't work), or even Uncle Waffles (would be a fun wild card) to open the stage.

I don't think Jamie Jones will play where we have him. They haven't really pulled artists out of the Yuma to play the Gobi; the only example I can think of is Four Tet, and I wouldn't say he's really comparable to Jamie Jones. Plus, we gave Vintage Culture a Sahara spot at the same time. While I don't think it's impossible that Vintage Culture plays Sahara, I'd be shocked if he got that better spot over Jamie, who has a pretty long history with the festival. All the more so because they'd actually be conflicting in that time slot. Billing and history both make me think it's really unlikely they go head to head with Vintage Culture getting the better placement.
I think if Jamie's out of the Yuma, it's not in the Gobi, and would probably move him toward the Sahara in Vintage Culture's spot, while bumping Vintage Culture down earlier in the day.

I know Whyte Fang is Allison Wonderland, but I wonder if that's the right spot for her. She seems like good late-night counterprogramming in the Gobi (against Metro Boomin/Chems?). Maybe a swap of her and Ashnikko, which might also make better counterprogramming at that slot? At the very least, she's also billed over Vintage Culture, which probably means she won't open for him.
--
Idk where to put him, but that spot feels wrong for Tobe.

Agree with a lot of what’s been said above regarding the Outdoor, but do like Yves on that stage. Outdoor going Yves - Blondie - Kaytranada - Chems is the move in my mind. Someone like Gabriels makes sense as an Outdoor opener around 3ish.

What about the Sahara going
Dombresky - Vintage Culture - Nora - Jamie with no break in between sets? Just have the Sahara constantly moving and grooving from 2:30 - 6:30 or some bs like that.

would be a lot of fun if they'd do a throwback to that style of programming in the Sahara, not sure they'd actually do it though.
What if Maceo Plex is getting a Solomun-style promotion this year? It would be boring, but he's played so many times and he's on the third line.

Doesn’t Push have some songs with Gorillaz? I would try avoid a conflict with them if at all possible, but like him at night in a tent as others have suggested.
