I just checked through five years of that guy’s Reddit history and I learned he 1) has claimed nothing except for hearing a rumor about Gorillaz for 2022 and 2) loves the Raiders.
Also, a Labrinth-Charli conflict feels wrong. I'm definitely in the "Charli isn't playing Sahara" camp, as cool as I think her show would be in there
I hear ya, and agree for the most part...if everything you said winds up true, it's making me think Prydz forsure wont be Outdoor. Unless Labrinth plays the Main (he would have to play in daylight if he did which seems sort of off) do we even have room to move Charli back to the Outdoor? Unless Charli winds up in a tent or something, but that also feels sort of off to me.

That's basically why I proposed Charli in the Sahara. That said, I'm not sure Labrinth at 6pm on the main would be a disaster unless he has some light production to use. Similarly, Charli might work there, and then you bump Eladio Carrion elsewhere.

So he's legit
Or he deleted past bullshit confirmations lol. But I do think he's legit right now.

a few times in the past he’s guessed 2manydjs to be Do Lab guests and been explicit about when he’s guessing/joking about something, so at bare minimum he’s a big fan of those kinds of artists and doesn’t have a history of lying. ofc it’s good to be skeptical of anyone without a track record but in the absence of any other information this seems as good a claim as any.

Yep, I hear this too. Lots of delicate dominoes on this day. I think Charli could also play Mojave, but her billing suggests she probably won't. That said, I could see her on Main too. What about swapping her with Eladio Carrión?

we just proposed the same thing lol, but I do think Labrinth needs at least dusk. Eladio Carrión to the Sahara seems like it works; the show isn't the most Sahara thing in the world, but it would work in there.

I feel like this suggestion won't go over that well here, but Charli also feels over-billed to me. Looking at the venues she plays, she's not really a bigger draw than Carly Rae Jepsen, who was on the 4th line and played the Mojave during the day last year; I don't recall hearing horror stories about the line to get into her set in the Warehouse at Portola, though I could just have missed that. Is she really that much bigger then when she was near the end of the third line on the 2020 poster? Google trends suggests not. Spotify's not loading for me right now so I can't check that.
All of this to say: I think she can go a lot of places. 6pm on the main, Mojave, Outdoor. The bigger issue with her to me is that the main is super pop-heavy this evening, and avoiding overlap with all three of our top acts for her seems wise.
Our Saturday is a mess. Mikey, I am confident you've nailed Friday but I know in my heart that we are missing a curveball on this day.
The main stage is right. Rosalia --> BP --> Calvin, nothing else works, Eladio definitely main, Diljit would not be surprising given the sheer number of dancers.
I think the outdoor is wrong but I'm not sure how. boygenius seems so obvious in that sunset spot though.
I also think Remi and Sofi could be contenders for Mojave. The issue as I see it is that with BP and Calvin on the main, a lot of acts like Chromeo and Sofi that we might slot into a later Mojave spot seem less tenable because they'd be headliner fodder. Plus, DRAMA and Snail Mail - like no way those two acts play that late.
I keep coming back to treating Prydz like Aphex - have him shut down the Mojave and the tent goes dark after him, earlier than expected. 9:00-10:30, as an example. Shift the Mojave acts down a bit - no way the first band starts playing after 3:00, there's room to keep most of those acts in that tent but we need to free up one major one, I'll get to that in a second.
Then throw Suicideboys on the outdoor where we have Labrinth, have Labrinth play between BP and Calvin. That frees up room also in the Sahara for Underworld to play instead of the Mojave, maybe finishing right before or starting right after Prydz.
Then throw DRAMA and Snail Mail earlier, and move Yaeji into the Gobi later at night - that feels closer to a Gobi closer than the previous two bands. If the Mojave is shut down, Yung Lean Gobi vs Calvin might also work. DRAMA and Snail Mail just feel so wrong there.

I suspect BLACKPINK is going to be the best headliner to go against this weekend. I'm really dubious that many blinkies are showing up for this, they didn't pack the Sahara last time, and I still think they're going to be largely a curiosity for a lot of people who will also want something else going on at that time. Whenever I talk to people about the lineup - late 20somethings I work with in particular - they're the first thing people mention as a reason they're disappointed, and nobody can name more than a song or two if that. It's anecdotal, but if I'm Chromeo, I would love that slot.

As the person who first floated the idea of Aphex in the Mojave in 2019 and was exactly correct...I don't think there is really a case to treat Prydz like Aphex. I do not think the show requires it (an argument that was, funny enough, made against Aphex in the Mojave in 2019), I do not think the rest of the day requires it (nothing about this day is built around Prydz), I do not think they are similar levels of draw (we are weirdly underselling Prydz's draw here. he could work in the Mojave against our headliners, but he will have a big to huge crowd whenever he plays -- Lane 8 filled the Mojave against the biggest headliner last year for crying out loud), and I do not think he is an act that they have to protect in the schedule. I think a major reason we are pushing Prydz in the Mojave is because people want him there, which is all well and good, but these arguments just do not convince me on it. And it makes an already-difficult day even harder to do what you're proposing here.

Agree with this too. Chromeo feels exactly like headliner fodder to me this year.
I'll add though, I know at least a dozen people who are attending for the first time this year whose attendance is driven by BLACKPINK. and I'm 30, these are people my age. Also anecdotal, and I agree that they're the lightest headliner, but I don't think it's going to be a ghost town by any stretch. They'll have a respectable crowd at minimum.
My wife wouldn't skip BLACKPINK for any other artist on the lineup. I agree they'll be the lightest headliner, for sure, but I also agree with cshenton that the crowd will be respectable. This is going to ruffle some feathers but they are going to draw exactly like Tame Impala did - not huge, but not sparse, and the people that are going are committed.
I think they are stealth - the people that aren't into them really aren't into them, but I do think they have clearly gotten wayyyyy more popular since 2019 and their tour sold crazy well.

I don’t think headline fodder matters when a) the headliner isn’t huge or b) the demographics are different
We see that every year with packed saharas during headliners. I saw Gucci mane during Lady Gaga and it was packed and I never thought wow bad set time for him. A group like chromeo or Soffi would do fine during blackpink

I definitely wasn't trying to suggest the crowd will be bad, moreso that most of it will be people who don't know their music and are there out of curiosity rather than deep fanhood, and there will be more people looking for an alternative than the other headliners (in part because the "go home" alternative is more appealing on a Sunday than a Saturday for those who don't want to see Frank).
Your wife might not skip BLACKPINK for anyone else; conversely most of my crew saw them in 2019, loved it, but don't feel a need to see them again at all.

They barely overlapped because I remember dancing to Photo Shoot and Pillz on top of the rose garden fountain and I saw all of Gaga, but I hear your point regardless.

True. I just remember getting back to my campsite with an hour left in the fest so maybe I walked slow lol.
But yeah something like kaytranada vs drake is headline fodder cause they’re close enough to possibly be someone’s number 1 and 2 for that day. But other acts don’t need that protection.

does this stage setup differ from what it was at Portola? she played in the tent at Portola, but while it was light out, and the tent was not exactly impervious to the outside. You could tell it was bright out. If this is what people are saying needs to be at night, I disagree. Especially since we're talking about moving her to golden hour, not full afternoon.

I agree that Saturday feels pretty off. Honestly I think it's going to feel weird until we get more of a solid confirmation of where Prydz will be playing, or if not, a few other confirmations to help sure up some of the apparent issues.
I suppose we could move either Remi or ST to the Mojave (I'd lean toward Remi as ST played Mojave the last 2 times they were at Coachella) but I don't think that really solves much of the core issues, which take place 6:30 onward (as I see it anyway). Snail Mail feels offs forsure, but we can probably just switch them with like Donovan's Yard or Bakar or whatever, I'm not sure we want to move Remi or ST to that slot. Personally I think DRAMA is a solid contender for a late night tent acts, but if I'm alone on that, we can change it.
Personally I'm much more in the "Prydz in the Mojave" camp at this point, so I have no problem with that. It would mean moving Yung Lean out and more than likely back to the Sahara which is going to make some people annoyed, but I think that's the best option.
I really really have a hard time seeing them putting Underworld back in the Sahara. The time in 2016 made sense when the Sahara was a fraction of the size it is now, but I can't see them putting a legacy 90's electronic act like Underworld in the megastructure, and it would feel so empty. Genuine question, since we've had the meag-structure, have we had any legacy electronic acts play there who are in a similar vein to Underworld?
Is Yung Lean not too big for the Gobi? I honestly don't know, but my gut says probably?

Can the main stage even have this kind of production have heavy lighting/lasers during the day? Personally this does strike me as something that needs to be at night, or at least late enough to allow this production to work in the Mojave.
I'm not sure I agree. He has the biggest production of any non-main stage act playing this year, or possibly ever. Doesn't it take ample time to set up Holo? I would think they do have to schedule at least a few things around Holo.

the Main stage is more than capable of this. I do not think this needs to be at night as long as its not in the brightest/hottest part of the day, but others may disagree.

it does take time to set up Holo. the theory behind Aphex closing the Mojave was that he would require an 90 minute+ set (longest nonheadliner set in almost a decade outside of the Yuma?); that's more what I mean. Prydz is probably playing at least an hour, but he could do that closing the Mojave or closing the Outdoor (or closing the Sahara).

Uhhh yeah OK so watching that Charli XCX clip, when previously I had only seen her do it on the Reading/Leeds stage in daylight with none of the effects, leads me to two thoughts...(1) I now have another Must See on a night that is already chock full of them and (2) that looks like Mojave or even dare I say it, Sahara to me. I guess they could go the R/L and put that on the day on a big stage but when she did that festival she just had the dancers and none of the effects.
