I think Khaled being a meme made a better case for outside the Sahara. He had way more social equity than Metro does now. Relying on guests for stage size is just not a good prediction strategy. Keem was fine bringing out Kendrick. Kanye brought out Ye. I highly doubt we get future, Drake and Weeknd. I bet only one per weekend if that. And it’ll be fine for those 8 mins. Metro alone couldn’t headline rolling loud so I think that’s a fair enough reason to place him in the Sahara.
not sure I agree but I can understand this. I just think an act that everyone knows is less serious is going to have a hard time making it to a featured spot on the Main. I think that made Khaled basically impossible to get on Main, and combined with the other acts on his day, made him impossible to get onto Outdoor. That pretty much guaranteed him in the Sahara.
regardless, I think Metro will be in the Sahara too.
Metro is a tough one because according to his tweets he's working hard to make this a special set, and considering he's the biggest hip-hop producer of the past 10+ years, I imagine that he will be on a big stage at prime time. The problem is that Friday night is already a clusterfuck so idk how to schedule it
Maybe if Main went Blondie > Metro > Gorillaz > Bad Bunny With the Outdoor scheduled Kaytranada > Burna > Chem Bros
Idk but I wouldn't be shocked to be him on Main because other than Kendrick, pretty much every other superstar rapper is on the table for a possible guest appearance
What are we thinking in terms of things he could do to make the set special? Watching some of his live sets has honestly really turned me off - dude goes dj Khaled levels of mic action.
We know he’s gonna bring out big guests, that’s cool. Does he do… a live band? Full orchestra section? Would love to hear people’s thoughts and predictions.
I have no idea but when Travis dropped out of Day n Vegas they replaced it with a “special” Future/Metro Boomin set. Which ended up being a regular Future set just this time with a DJ you know lol.
I think he just adds visuals since he hasn’t really toured outside of clubs and small venues like observatory. He said his album was like a concept album (I don’t think it was) but I’m sure it’ll be some hero/villain visuals and props
The difference between Khaled and Metro hyping up a set is - Khaled is always hyping up EVERYTHING, he could have no guests and still tote his set as something special. Metro isn't much of a talker so if he says he's working on making it special, I actually believe him lol. Khaled's set was pretty regular.

I skipped Khaled for Hans Zimmer cause I’m smart but Khaled’s set for the formation tour was fire. Snoop, TI, Yo Gotti, Neyo, I forget who else but yeah that was a moment lmao. But Khaled just isn’t a good dj, performer, whatever. But the hate I have for his skill doesn’t automatically make Metro a good one. A lot of hip hop producers skill do not translate properly over. I just saw ATL Jacob this last week give a horrendous set and he’s one of my favorite producers out.

I've never seen Metro live personally, but I do know that he spends time *actually* DJing, so I'm hoping he's good at it lol
(P'ierre Bourne is unfortunately bad at it and is basically just on the aux)
on the conversation of hip-hop producers, any speculation to what kenny beats set will be like? I was hoping it would be a special guests gallery too but looking at some of his live sets on youtube it seems maybe more likely it's a dj set of top 40 hip hop. which would be so disappointing.

have a friend who saw him live recently and it was a very eclectic, very fun DJ set. If that’s the show at Coachella, it’ll be a good time for sure but not a must see

At his show at the Novo in 2021 he brought out Idles, Mac Demarco, Vince Staples, Zack Fox, Paris Texas and more I can’t remember. I would expect some of those then maybe Rico, Gibbs, Earthgang, any who has been in the cave

Saw him at Day N Vegas, brought out Kenny Mason who was performing that same day, and Zack Fox. Fun set, he played some stuff produced by him but then some popular hiphop songs. He recently dropped his new album Louie so I would expect him to probably play that in its almost entirety since its about a 30 minute album, 1-2 guests probably a 45-50 minute set if I had to guess
Why not? They play entirely different styles of music.
No they don't it's pretty similar. Well, Foushee is very all over the place in which genres she tackles. But she also does a similar rock to Willow. Foushee's 2022 album is like 85% rock.
I don't believe Foushee plays really any rock live though. She may have a more "live" sound than most Soul/R&B artists, but her live sets are compromised of songs that are definitely not the same genre as Willow.

Her recent live show is much more rock/pop punk sounding. I saw her open for Steve Lacy in 2022 and it was a completely different vibe than when I saw her open for James Blake in 2021
Counter point - Paul T once put The Orwells, Joyce Manor, and OFF! at exactly the same time so the deeper you go down the undercard, the faster you get to Paul T saying "fuck it I just need to get these out". I think Foushee vs WILLOW could definitely happen.

Her new show is Rock but this old show is just how Willow’s old shows used to be which makes it even more obvious they won’t conflict. Their trajectory the last 3 or so years is similar.
Yeah, Foushee's rock album legit just came out 2 months and change ago so there hasn't been much time for her to show what her new sets will look like. I'd imagine she'll play her biggest pop/indieand hiphop songs like Deep End, Candy Grapes, the song with Wayne etc, but majority will be her rock album

I mentioned kali uchis playing before the line up because of a friend on tour with her, but I’m not sure she is third on main from what I’m hearing. Trying to get more info from the friend atm

Shes closing down mainstage...right before bjork and frank. lol. according to some twitter account. lolol.
I would not be surprised if Kali is before frank and Bjork gets outdoor
I was thinking about this the other day, actually. I think for the same reason as you.
Porter --> Kali --> bjork sized hole --> Frank Dom before Porter --> F&L starting the second after Porter and overlapping partially with Kali --> set-up for Bjork --> Bjork playing until Frank starts Jai Paul gets Fred Again slot in the Mojave and not on the outdoor A Boogie, for sure, and somebody from Rae/Latto/GloRilla in the Sahara during Porter and Fisher/Lake, and then somebody like Boris or 2manydjs closing the tent out

I think that's how I'd guess at this moment.
Jai Paul in a tent (and specifically the Fred Again type slot) feels like a no brainer to me, though The Weeknd having his debut outdoor at sunset is a compelling counter argument.

Weird to think about how Jai Paul and The Weeknd came up roughly around the same time with not too dissimilar aesthetics and one of them is the biggest pop star on the planet right now and the other is doing his first show in a few weeks.

What is the reasoning for wanting to Bjork to the Outdoor? The last time a sub played anywhere but the main, it was The Knife on Friday of 2014, and that made a ton of sense (+ with Outkast being the headliner).

the weeknd got that DAWG in him. Jai Paul got that cryboy n' hide in him. thats the difference.
Bjork on Outdoor wouldn't shock me, because Kali makes a lot of sense as a Frank lead-in and they've been more conscious of that ever since the Beyonce year. But we have a confirmation that Fisher & Chris Lake are closing the Outdoor, so Bjork couldn't close it unless that's wrong. I doubt a sub is second-to-last on the Outdoor.

Think about the story you know that you just referenced a few pages ago, think about the act that Paul envisioned originally before Frank, and then think about if you believe Bjork was booked at the last minute.
Unprecedented yes but also we’ve never had an “official” sub before this year and maybe that means they take more of a Glasto approach letting them close out the outdoor with a full/longer set. Not wedded to that idea but clearly they are fiddling with their pattern a bit.

Oh duh, somehow I had forgotten about the Fisher and Lake confirmation. Yeah, Bjork is definitely not going on the Outdoor.
