I don't think they really care if we hate it or not, as they continue to put acts that should be in elsewhere in the Yuma. You think they would have learned with Yaeji in 2018, and then Chris Lake in 2019...but as you mentioned, they went and put PDM (and Fatboy Slim) in the Yuma this year.
I wonder how much of this is acts asking to play the Yuma? Seems like a lot of DJ’s who aren’t, like, Duke Dumont / Duck Sauce type acts would prefer that atmosphere.
The PDM/Fatboy lines are part of how my wife convinced me to go VIP this year, and now looking at our set time mocks I’m not sure there’s much I’ll be prioritizing in the Yuma anyhow lol. Would love recs if there are any can’t-miss acts! (I’m gonna be all over LP Giobbi but don’t think she’s going to have lines that require VIP lol).
If you’re going in extra early then catch Chloe Caillet and then don’t feel too bad about missing keinemusik.
I was originally pumped for the HOLO show since I’d just seen small clips of the best parts on random social media sites. However, since digging in and listening to the actual sets I’ve become less and less amped for this show, and seeing this production on an outdoor stage now has me hoping for some decent counter programming. Still going to give it a go for 30 minutes or so and hope that it’s better in person but feeling very whelmed now.
Like, you don’t like the tracklists you’ve seen? Or because you feel like the production won’t work well on outdoor?

Little bit of both. Was never crazy about Prydz, but was still excited because I thought his stuff could be cool enough with the visual presentation. That said, I was downright bored at the Cirez D show in the Yuma in 2019.
Now that I’ve researched several HOLO shows from 2022 I’m just not that excited. I’m sure the visuals will still be cool if you’re up close, but if you’re watching this show from around the soundstage then I can’t see it being that captivating on the outdoor. Was selfishly hoping for Mojave and that they would install a bunch of lights all around the structure for the show like the old Sahara setup. Still planning to see some of the show by all means, just less excited than I was when originally saw it on the lineup. Hoping I’m proved wrong and hear great things W1 before I go W2.

This is basically exactly where I’m at. Pumped to see like a half hour of it, if it’s awesome and I stay for the whole thing, great, but i could see wanting to mix it up halfway through.

The show builds into crescendo. Not just musically but visually as well. Begins more on the dark techno (cirez d) 2d (simple linear graphics, simple color scheme) almost deep space feeling. then evolves into more pryda some basic 3 d graphics. By the end it is full blown 3 d of things like human form (astronaut) floating in a magical array of colors watching earth go by with some of his prydz bangers then of course opus. All this to say two things. 1. As someone who has been going to rave type events since the early 90’s I was surprised it scratched an itch I didn’t realize I had. Felt almost like some lucid streaming memory of all those previous shows melted together. It actually did blow me away. 2. I agree with the 2019 cirez d set opinion. That being said if your going to skip a portion I would prioritize seeing the end. Full disclosure I’m a huge prydz fan. Even most of the cheese. I did enjoy shm last year. I left holo feeling like when I left aphex twin, although I was sober i felt like I was on drugs. I’m still hoping it’s Mojave.

I think that’s def the right plan. Catching the second half, esp if you weren’t into his cirez D stuff would be the move. All that is to say, I’d try and keep your expectations as low as possible. After seeing it, I don’t think it’s immune to overhype disappointment. It personally felt like there’s still more than the technology can do to really shine (a lot of choices sort of feel like they’re just being done for the sake of the 3d effect rather than being cohesive “to the story” if that even makes sense)
For anybody who still thinks HOLO won't work on an outdoor stage.
It doesnt work on an outdoor stage in the daylight and with what Ultra is doing you have to imagine Coachella has to meet that level of production value and such.
have any of you been to one of the Holo shows before? I am really struggling to see why it’s so much more interesting that a giant Pryda logo is floating above his head than flashing behind him on a screen.

If your first thought at seeing the Tupac hologram in 2012 was "I don't get why this is any more interesting than Tupac on a screen," then yes, you should probably just never see holograms ever.
If you like Prydz' music and you enjoy lasers and big visual productions, Holo is a slam dunk. If you're on any kind of psychedelics, also a slam dunk. If your initial reaction to seeing what is probably the best overall visual EDM production on earth is to shrug and ask why it's so mid, then don't waste your time.

^Do you think this is cool? If yes, then you’ll probably really like it. Otherwise, maybe not. It’s def cool and some of the best production, but I think it def has some room to run still. That being said, try to actually be further back - the effect works better that way.

genuinely asking - how would being in the back make it better? from the videos that have been shared here, it seems like the effect would be stronger if you were up closer to the front.

Sorry, I wasn’t very good with my words there, try and be further back enough to make sure you have the full view of the screen as perpendicular to your sight line as possible. Ideal spot is dead middle, with the screen just inside your periphery edge. That being said, it’s better to be too far back than too far up front imo, esp as you can see more of the production “lines” and such, which for me really kinda muted the effect. So if you’re jousting for a spot, it’s better to go backwards. We were close up nearer the end of the show to the right side of the stage and just remember feeling everything was super lackluster there.

makes sense to put the show in the Sahara then, so 80% of the people will have no chance of the view you're describing
yeah I think part of the problem is every video I've seen of it here has been shot from like a mile away. this looks so much more impressive:
This is a better representation. Also this is the show I was at. (1 of the 3 that is he played that weekend) seeing this again here makes me even more convinced it will be Mojave. Although I’m probably wrong. Just seems like maybe they learned something from that outdoor set. From what I can tell that’s the last time he did it outdoors and that was 5 years ago. Regardless I will be at this set, and you all should probably too!!!
Vintage Culture is so clearly Sahara bound that I don't know what to tell you. If anything, him playing the Sound makes me think Nora playing Sound means nothing and we should put her back in.
On Mikey's current mock for Friday, there are already nine Yuma artists and only eight Sahara INCLUDING Nora and Vintage Culture. And some of those Sahara acts (ASHNIKKO) seem dubious at best. We really want to be down to six Sahara acts and eleven Yuma?
I'm just realizing that for some reason my edits are no longer working, and that the mock is actually from last week. Not sure what's going on, but hoping I can fix it soon.

Already moved Nora into the Yuma (check the clashfinder, having issues with the mocks), really don't think Vintage winds up there, even with a Sound booking, though I of course could be totally wrong. Also I had moved Ashnikko to a tent.
mmm k gonna save these replies for when VC gets the 2019 Chris Lake Bro Tech House Yuma 8pm slot
the only artist last year who played sound and not Yuma was Honey Dijon
I also think we have plenty of artists who could go in Sahara that aren't there currently - Pusha T, SG Lewis, Idris Elba
EDIT: ah I see we already moved Pusha T in there
and to be clear I am not going to die on the hill but I think being booked for Sound is pretty decent evidence that should at least be considered/factored in, more reacting to y'alls attitudes ('clearly' Sahara) than the final decision itself

people on here insist every year that a Yuma act can’t play the Yuma lol. we do wish fulfillment here too
last year the Yuma was a shitshow more than it had been in the past, so they might change it up, and I am also not going to sue on the hill. but uhhhh lots of magical thinking about the Yuma round these parts
Yuma is moving to the current Mojave tent. Mojave is moving to the current Sahara structure. Sahara is moving into a repurposed 747 hangar taking over the entirety of Lot 8. Only explanation for camping selling out am I right.
Some of y'all need a dose of reality. If you want Prydz, the #3 billed act of the day to be in the Mojave, you can't tell people to "show up for the 2nd half." If he's actually put in there, you need to show up way before the set begins and pray you don't get crowd crushed because it'll create the 'Old Sahara' problems all over again. Especially after Astroworld, I truly hope they know better than to put one of the most hyped up acts in a tent that's historically known for getting dangerously overcrowded...
Can someone ask the old lady from Egypt what she thinks of Lana Del Rey headlining Coachella so we can know whether the festival has redeemed its reputation as a laughingstock worldwide
