Some of y'all need a dose of reality. If you want Prydz, the #3 billed act of the day to be in the Mojave, you can't tell people to "show up for the 2nd half." If he's actually put in there, you need to show up way before the set begins and pray you don't get crowd crushed because it'll create the 'Old Sahara' problems all over again. Especially after Astroworld, I truly hope they know better than to put one of the most hyped up acts in a tent that's historically known for getting dangerously overcrowded...
In theory he’s the 4th billed act on that day with Calvin also playing Saturday and we’ve had tons of 4th billed acts play the Mojave. Not saying he’s going to play there but his placement on the lineup should not dictate that it alone is out of the question. Also this sub and Reddit vastly overestimates the draw of Eric Prydz especially if it’s at the same time as a headliner and a competing hip/hop act in the Sahara.
mmm k gonna save these replies for when VC gets the 2019 Chris Lake Bro Tech House Yuma 8pm slot
the only artist last year who played sound and not Yuma was Honey Dijon
I also think we have plenty of artists who could go in Sahara that aren't there currently - Pusha T, SG Lewis, Idris Elba
EDIT: ah I see we already moved Pusha T in there
and to be clear I am not going to die on the hill but I think being booked for Sound is pretty decent evidence that should at least be considered/factored in, more reacting to y'alls attitudes ('clearly' Sahara) than the final decision itself
I guess what I’m confused by is who would we take out of the Yuma if you have artists like VC playing that spot. This day is already light on acts so scheduling 10 acts on the Yuma doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. Artists like Maceo Plex have played outside the Yuma to a 1/3 full Gobi tent so basic logic would suggest that there is no reason that artist like that should get outside the Yuma treatment again when an artist like VC would pack the Sahara no different than Dom Dolla or John Summit IMO, but time will tell I suppose.

Just theorizing here but perhaps some of these bigger Yuma acts we have here aren't going to be in the Yuma after all. A big complaint last year were the long lines to get in there but from a safety standpoint, that's not likely not going to change. So perhaps to help alleviate that, we're gonna see artists like Idris Elba or Jamie Jones on another stage. The already kinda did that last year with Solomun and Blessed Madonna + Honey Dijon so maybe we'll see more of that this year.

Weren’t there serious lines for Idris last time he played? If not then I think he could still be Yuma but if so, then sticking him back there again seems really stupid.

Somebody has to play against the Chem Bros and Idris makes sense for that IMO. They don’t want a Gessafelstein 2019 situation where the Yuma is completely empty. If memory serves me correct they changed set times for that slot in 2019 because it was so poorly attended W1 that they didn’t want that to occur again W2 for the same artist.

During W1 Nocturnal Sunshine overlapped for 45 minutes with Gesaffelstein; for W2 they swapped her and Charlotte de Witte and also relabeled it "Maya Jane Coles presents Nocturnal Sunshine". It was probably a wise idea to swap their set times either way, but I think the lack of name recognition was a bigger factor in her crowd being so small W1.

They also booked Idris against Aphex last time. Would not be surprised if they do the exact same thing with Chems.

Wonder how much that would affect things this year.

I did laugh at that last one, but I do think it’ll be interesting to see which of these aliases draw crowds. As Gordo, Carnage is playing some fairly big venues so I think he’ll be ok but I would be very surprised if a lot of people showed up for Whyte Fang, regardless of when it gets scheduled.
I think Whyte Fang will actually do pretty well if the schedule isn't hostile to it. people love Allison Wonderland
It's really a matter of the conversion rate of people who love Allison Wonderland -> People who love her enough to know through some medium that she has a side project called Whyte Fang.
And then the pondering is...is this rate higher than Maya Jane Coles -> Nocturnal Sunshine?
Maybe the general popularity numbers for Allison vs Maya Jane renders this moot, but I guess I would think there are a higher % of casuals for Allison Wonderland.

Alison Wonderland is very active about promoting the side project though. MJC to my knowledge never told anyone what Nocturnal Sunshine was, through any outlet (I only knew what it was because she'd been billed as Maya Jane Coles presents on a Sonar lineup).

Contrast that with this, with 28,000 likes:
she's going to draw fine.
I did a bit of digging and MJC did talk about Nocturnal Sunshine as it related to Coachella a tiny bit on social media but weirdly only closer to the festival and not when the lineup was first announced. I think Alison Wonderland is in a better position just simply because she's more popular, but the main reason I think Whyte Fang won't draw a large crowd is that I think it's likely people will end up seeing the schedule, see the name Whyte Fang, go "lol what is that?", and not look into it further. (though, to give some standard caveats, it's not like the Sahara will be empty for her or anything and also I don't think she's the only person that's going to happen to.)

I think the same will definitely happen for most aliased acts. Testpilot I can not only see that happening for, but if reddit is any indication, people who find out that he's deadmau5 then have deadmau5 expectations and find Tespilot "boring" ha.

Devils in the details for sure. I don’t think she’s going to pack the Sahara by any stretch (at least not without very favorable scheduling), but she’s going to do fine. The alias will limit her reach for sure but she will draw respectably in most slots and against most counterprogramming.

On the contrary I'm not a fan of her Alison Wonderland music at all but really like what I've heard from the new project, so count me in as a net positive for Whyte Fang.

yeah I personally am in a similar boat (not an Alison fan, intrigued with the new stuff and would check it out, with the caveat that this lineup is so stacked that I do not expect to see it). we’re just not the majority of festival attendees haha

Yeah, I’m sure it would be in the pleasantly surprised category. The only thing is I can’t imagine it very likely that there will be a competing show at her slot that will be much more appealing.
Does Jai Paul on the Outdoor feel wrong to anyone else? I would be fine with it but I’m expecting nighttime Mojave.
I think we have him about 30-40 minutes earlier than he'd be if he played there but don't think Outdoor is unreasonable (I think of The Weeknd 2012 as a pretty good proxy, when he played the outdoor at 6:55). I could see him in that leading-into-sunset outdoor slot, or a Mojave slot a la Fred Again, or a just-after-sunset Mojave slot. Those are the three that make sense to me. Much later than sunset and you have him running up against Bjork and Frank Ocean, and I think they'll spread out the three most rare acts of the day.
