The Weekend 2012 outdoor slot or Fred Again Mojave slot are the most obvious choices. I am leaning Mojave over Outdoor but no way are they throwing him much later than either of those - he's not going against Bjork, he's not going against Frank. I suppose he could go against Lake/Fisher if they play to a silent main between Bjork and Frank but I see them giving him an easier slot a little earlier around sunset.
I agree with basically everything both Braun and Travelfan said regarding Jai Paul. I think if there were acts on Sunday that had to wind up on the Outdoor, then moving Jai to the Mojave would of course make sense...but tbh I'm not sure who makes more sense for that slot than Jai.

Last year NIKI, Cuco, and Solumun played the spot that Jai Paul is at rn, so it's not like he's not billed for it. And I can't imagine his stage setup will demand darkness. Also as others have said it's probably a good idea to have him play when there isn't too much competition
Mojave opposite Kali Uchis on Main probably works. Crowd wise, Mojave is probably best. But if they want to showcase the public debut of one of the most rare acts then he'll probably be outside. Could even see them sliding him on Main before Kali if they're super invested in showcasing him.
A Mojave swap should be easy. Put him in and pick either GloRilla or Latto to be outside (the other in Sahara).

You think theyve requested a general outline of what his act is going to look like before deciding? kind of a unique case with never having performed before; certainly a lot more risk around this.
Just to have something new to talk about, Diljit Dosanjh has an Instagram post about his new upcoming tour and it looks completely outdoor at night ready to go. Huge visuals, pyrotechnics, fireworks, dancers, etc.
Plenty of acts have had to downsize their shows/get rid of nighttime visuals to play at Coachella, but this guy is a megastar in India who convinced (demanded?) GV to give him billing at Coachella that is far beyond his actual draw in the states - I wonder if he had similar demands re: bringing his whole show and he's gonna pull a Jean-Michel Jarre and play outdoor at night to like 300 people.
3% chance this happens, more posting so I can gloat later on if this is this year's curveball.

Main swap with Dominick Fike.

Diljit Dosanjh actually plays arenas in the states, or at least did in Oakland, New Jersey, Dallas, and Vancouver (not sure about where else but those I know for sure). He's a big draw here, it's just - like plenty of other international acts - his draw probably does not really overlap with the festival audience. Like, I'd never heard of him and he played an arena in my backyard not long ago lol.
That said, I'm not sure there's much I saw in that video that really screams "night time visuals" aside from the fireworks, it just happens to use night performance footage (which is always going to look better for promo) with a stage like Coachella's main stage. He'll definitely have a big band, and a big group of dancers, but I don't think he needs to be at night.
I'm pretty pumped for him, though, I think that set is going to be a blast.

He definitely doesn't need to do night, and he probably won't. We just seemed locked into the big ones and are desperate for a hypothetical curveball.
My wife and I are also pretty stoked for his set - although probably wouldn't see him if he's at night. This evening is just too stacked, so hoping he's day.

Totally, same. The less competition for him, the better.

You and me both. I totally plan on camping main whenever the artist before Kali finishes. So I hope I can squeeze in a couple other artists I really want to see before then. But I'm mentally prepared to miss a lot on Sunday lol

It depends exactly how close you want to get but I honestly bet if you show up halfway through Kali you’ll get within 15-30 feet of the front by Frank. And if he does what he did at Panorama you won’t want to be at the front anyway since he played on a second stage closer to the sound booth, didn’t he?

I think it’s even more than that; he probably doesn’t think about playing without Paul/GV working through what it would look like with him. Probably pretty collaborative and they probably had a pretty good idea of what he wanted to do before they put him on the poster.
The biggest acts have, at minimum, stage size and production capabilities in their actual contracts, if not the actual stage. If rumors were true, exact spots (ie - this time on this stage against these artists) were even part of it this year. They knew what Jai Paul was bringing and vice versa and I think his time/stage even which big acts he would (or wouldn't) go against were part of the contract.

Yeah, I mean - at bare minimum they need a sense of what he’s doing and bringing so they don’t plan on him playing the Gobi and end up with a Prydz/Chems type production, and to make sure they’ve accounted for stage hand allocation as needed if there’s 15 people on stage vs just him. I dunno that they know precisely what he’s doing but I would guess for a set like this they probably have a sense at least.

I’m lol at the idea of watching Jai Paul do Jasmine and then out of nowhere here comes a holographic giant hand at you!!
Interpol & The Walkmen 11.23 I Am Morbid/Suffocation 11.26 King Diamond 11.29 Sadistic Intent/Massacre 11.30 70K Tons Of Metal 2025 Hell's Heroes 2025 Sick New World 2025 Maryland Deathfest 2025

That's true, Gambino did the same thing and I was on the barrier lol But I'm camping before Kali because I actually want to see Kali, Bjork, AND Frank. That top 3 just worked out perfect for me. I think most Kali fans are gonna stay on Main for Bjork and Frank too.
TBH I can see a lot of people vibing with a Kali --> Bjork --> Frank run. Sure there will be tons of turnover as always, but kind of reminds me of Father John Misty --> The XX --> Radiohead in 2017...I think a lot more people than typical will stick around for all three.

Crowd was pretty spread out for FJM so getting up close wasnt too tough before The Xx into Radiohead. Considering Travis Scott was on Outdoor thats a big reason. So if Chris Lake/ Fisher is what a lot of people want to see and not Frank then it might not be as bad as we think.
Camping main is so memorable! Happy for everyone that has a run like that this year.
That was me 2019: Kacey Musgraves -> Anderson Paak -> The 1975 -> Janelle Monae -> Gambino. Made friends with the couple other people who were there for the whole run too

Quite literally couldn’t be a more perf top 3 that day. Have yet to see all three of them, ready to drop a tab to keep it UP

If anything I see it thinning out pretty hard by 3/4ths through Bjork for all those who can’t hang/aren’t living (Bjork is very acquired, especially with an orchestra) so it should make for a real chill Sunday night

Was rail for Kacey, left for other stuff. Moved up during Janelle and was a couple rows back of the Catwalk where Gambino pretty much stayed at for 90% of the show so I was pretty happy about that call.

You missed the best set of the weekend?? (Anderson) But yeah 2019 was special lol
