Why does Big Wild not work in the Gobi? Just curious, I'm not familiar with their music but thought it was sort of like Sofi Tukker or something.
Saw Big Wild at Life is Beautiful last year and it’s much more of a guitar and singing based show now than a DJ set. Gobi or Mojave feels right for him.

if it's the smaller Gobi from last year, he's way way way too popular. he could work in the Mojave but he's very much in the Gryffin/Petit Biscuit/Whethan genre of cheesy feelsy EDM. Sahara is probably the most natural spot but Mojave works. Gobi is just too small.
The main reason to move him out of the Gobi is that there's basically a 0% chance Mojave/Gobi/Sahara all have acts playing that last slot of the night. So someone needs to come out.
Is that disco James Murphy side project rumor no longer a thing?
I think this is still a thing, the people who know something just seem to have stopped talking about it. I'm guessing this is like James Murphy's version of The Smile, some all-star band of dance punk figures.
Coachella hyping up Metro's guests.. I'm just saying
All my biggest Coachella regrets involve attending sets for guest possibilities. Just saying…
I'm not implying that one should be anticipating Metro's set if they aren't already a fan, I'm implying the possibility that he's outside of the Sahara might be higher lol
I still don't think Metro Boomin with guests draws more than Post '18, Migos '18, Cudi '19, Big Sean '22 - all in the Sahara, even though it was packed.

Cudi was a special case because he requested Sahara
Metro is in fact bigger than 22 Big Sean and 2018 Post Malone (he took off way more after Coachella). Maybe not 2018 Migos but Culture 2 didn't hit. Could argue 2017 Migos were bigger than 2018 Migos. But yeah even Big Sean had the Sahara spilling out pretty far

Metro literally played a free concert last weekend in his hometown of STL as part of the opening celebration for the new MLS team. Some of the individuals in my group went and said only 2-3k of the 5k they allowed in stayed for it. I think you guys are greatly over valuing a top 40s DJ set, but definitely hope for your alls sake that he brings out tons of great guests. Otherwise this is DJ Khaled 2.0.
In terms of celebrity no, in terms of music yes Producers are never going to be as big of personalities as vocal artists but Metro's catalog is ridiculous. And he actually makes music unlike Khaled lol

It seems your arguing separate points maybe? Bigger in regards to popularity/Coachella crowd draw is not close to = bigger/size of musical catalog. Even If metro announced travis Scott as a guest I’m not sure more people would be there than that 2018 post set.
Celebrity is what matters though. Music catalogue notwithstanding, the fact that plenty of average Coachella attendees don’t know Metro Boomin produced songs they loved notwithstanding, the desire to see those songs in a DJ set vs live notwithstanding, Metro himself is not as much of a draw as the actual performers who performed those songs.
He’s a big draw, he’ll overflow the Sahara, he’s not bigger draw than those rappers though. Does your average USC sorority girl or wannabe influencer even know that Metro Boomin did Mask Off? The hip hop heads, sure.

Metro's producer tags are probably the most recognizable so I would hope most people would know that he produced these songs 🤔 "If young Metro doesn't trust you.." and "Metro Boomin want some more" at the beginning of all of his produced songs is pretty noticeable

I listen to metro and all of his collaborators. And even I going through the produced by metro playlist was surprised. And at the end of the day 30 of his 55 min set will be a DJ playing popular songs. 25 will be guests. People are excited, people will buzz about it in the campgrounds but it’s not gonna be so massive it needs MainStage.
Drake, Future, Weeknd are his biggest possible W1 guests. I don’t see all 3 coming. So that’s 4 songs at the end of his set. It’ll be packed but I don’t see it being crazy.

Honestly - and to be clear, I'm not the target audience here - "If young Metro doesn't trust you.." from Father Stretch My Hands is the only time I'd heard of Boomin. When I went to listen to songs my chief immediate reaction was "oh, the guy from that sample on that Kanye song."
I'm not stupid enough to think his crowd will be small, but I agree it'll be smaller than the other acts we're comparing to here. I'm old enough to remember when people thought DJ Khaled had to be main stage and Khaled had wayyyy bigger name recognition than Boomin. Also doesn't help that it's a lighter year for top-level hip hop.

My greatest Coachella save was convincing my group to leave Pharrell and friends (where we had a great spot ) and go to darkside… Only caught the last 2030 minutes, but everyone agreed it was the best move ever.
