I know a guy that had red dye thrown at him from a metal band on stage. Turned out it was pigs blood and they had to shut the place down due to health code violations.
i've always found metal show crowds to be the friendliest.
House shows are actually the best crowds. Metal shows are pretty chill too depending on the subgenre. As a non white I feel kinda uncomfortable a death metal and black metal shows. Metalcore is always a toss up. Thrash metal always is the nicest. 80s metal is weird cause it's mostly old yt people but I've never had to weird of an encounter. Not metal, but punk shows are the best under rock

at a Tool show in 2010 we had some guys behind us that were intoxicated on something. i don't know what it was, they were drinking but didn't appear to be super drunk. we were standing up and they wanted us to sit down, but they were so quiet about it we had no problem ignoring them. it wasn't annoying at all, it's like they couldn't stand up, and every few songs i'd hear what sounded like a desperate whisper of "sit down please". i think one of the guys touched the hem of my t-shirt at some point.
tool crowds are different from other metal crowds though. they have on black t-shirts and headbang and stuff, but they lack a certain care-free viscerality i've seen at metallica, or mastodon, or meshuggah, or ministry, any of the heavy bands that start with "M" really.

right on, you reminded me i actually find a lot of similarities between metal crowds and techno crowds. might just be all the black t-shirts or my perception, but people at techno shows just seem to be happy and not worried about things out of their control.

Tool crowds are different because fully 1/2 of the crowd would violate the terms of their parole if they went within 100 yards of a school or spoke to someone under the age of 18

some guy next to me barfed at what was basically half court of the Toyota center in the middle of a tool show. and thanks to seated floor I couldn't move and had to just be there 🥴
