Admittedly, I’m not watching this set. I’m saving it for next weekend. But: this happens constantly with live streams. Complaining about crowds unless you were in that crowd annoys me.
I’m glad Damon looks like he’s having a good time because the crowd is dead. Maybe further back it’s better.
One of my least favorite things about festivals is people who aren’t there thinking crowds are dead. Man, there are so many sets I had a blast at where the crowd was into it, and I go back to watch it on YouTube, and every comment is about how dead the crowd is. When I was there, and it wasn’t.
Crowd energy simply doesn’t come across on livestreams. I highly doubt that anybody at that Gorillaz set would say they weren’t having a fantastic time.
Normally i'd agree with you, but when even the artists on stage are calling it out, you know that isn't the case. I'm not saying there aren't pockets of people who are really into it, but you can tell the artists aren't feeling it from the crowd either.
Yup, was there at that set. Wonderful performance.
By my count, they only big american multigenre fest they've played since 2012 was ACL & OSL in 2017, and LIB last year. 3 festival sets in 12+ years is, well, sad on the promoters side.
I mean, it’s not like Gorillaz have been touring consistently for those 12 years with Damon splitting his time with Blur, The Good, Bad, and his solo work.

Part of it is the production of the livestream, focusing more of the audio mixing on the music itself and less on the general noise from the crowd. But yeah while it's never as bad as it seems on stream, this does feel pretty bad IMO
some people in here saying this gorillaz show is best thing ever, i am afraid i just dont see it. each time i flipped over to them, i switched back to Angele p damn quickly.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

So real question for anybody going next week. How early should I leave Gorillaz to guarantee great spot for Chems? Want to be in front of the sound stage for them in the center. Thinking I skip the last 15 minutes of Gorillaz to accomplish this, but curious what others think.

I think it depends on how deep you are in the Main stage crowd. if you can position yourself on the right side, leaving 10 minutes early is probably enough if you walk fast. I don't think Chems will have a major buildup. If you know to walk around to the right and then cut in, you'll be able to pull it off. But 15 minutes doesn't hurt if you want to be safe and that should be more than enough time.

I get where you are coming from and generally agree, but the first 100 rows of the crowd are literally just standing there motionless

I say this as a tangent, not a reflection of Gorillaz performance or their crowd - the only time I recall an act complaining about the crowd to that crowd was janelle monae calling out OutKast’s crowd W1 2014. But…that show sucked lol.

Depends where in the crowd you are. Outdoor can fill up fast, but if you leave 10-15mins early you shouldn't have any issue getting past the soundboard at least
