Not a Swiftie, but Taylor is savvy enough to know that the best Coachella sets use the festival as a canvas, rather than a gallery. Why make Coachella yet another stop on a tour that's already been so heavily hyped, with a concert film and all, when you can kick off a new era at the festival with a show designed with the festival in mind, and truly break the internet?
Acts like that take several years of negotiations, anyway. They asked Radiohead and Prince to play every single year until they finally said yes, so I can't imagine the difficulties of securing Taylor.

My wife is a huge Swiftie so I follow her quite a bit. Other than a few random show leaks they don’t seem to be so in tune with unannounced tour plans.
