LOL, so crazy that the biggest festival in North America is scrambling for a headliner, although that's better than Post Malone or the RHCP fucking everything up.

Looking from artist / management point of view, think The Killers would except only RTTD or a sub for Rolling Stones. Cant picture them taking a sub slot to Lana or Doja or whoever else.
well, with The Killers on boston calling and that HDD hint i’m pretty confident they’ll be subbing or in the RTTD slot
I don’t think there is ever a year that The Killers don’t play some festival. And I don’t think the wording HDD used was a hint since The Killers weren’t mentioned in the expanded article.

Killers opening for the Stones would a dream come true

Was just thinking how the #1 headliners for Coachella and Bonnaroo in 2017 were Beyonce (replaced by Lady Gaga also a strong #1) and U2 playing the Joshua Tree. The next year it was Beyonce again and Eminem for 'Roo (shared by Coachella).
This year, unless Coachella gets an add, the #1s are Lana Del Rey and the 60+ year-old Red Hot Chili Peppers.
(I actually like Lana's music a lot and think she can headline a day, but as a #1 for a 120,000 person festival seems weak).

Coachella needs to get the Killers subbing for the Stones to restore credibility. For many years the festival has become a laughing stock , being labeled more of an instagram festival rather than a music festival . With the Killers subbing for the Stones as headliners , Coachella will finally restore its credibility. Killers subbing for the Stones is a must , even if it means dishing out 40 mill over 2 weekends . Macca saved Coachella back in 2009 from going into bankruptcy, now in 2024 it’s the Killers subbing for the Stones turn to save Coachella from being label a circus festival

I’d accept losing some undercard names for them to make this happen
I watched the Chris Lake / Fisher set on the livestream W2 after missing it W1 and I thought it looked pretty fun. Not as euphoric as Underworld but a little more organic than Calvin Harris, even though Fisher did quack all behind the sticks lol.
Okay I'll say it: it's time for a Coachella cum leak, even if its just a dribble. GV can only give us blue balls so many times before someone blows a load so messy that it scrambles the lineup placements.
Hey, if anyone is needed a flight still go look at Southwest. I just nabbed 2 round trip tickets from Indy to San Diego for $400 total. That is HALF what they usually are.

I think you are severely underestimating Lana's draw. Her fanbase has grown immensely from her last full US tour (2019) and is as rabid as Swifites or Beyhive. She also is a critic darling, was on basically in top 10 of every 2023 AOTY list. The only active touring acts available that are bigger would be Stones or Taylor. I'm not a huge fan, but she's clearly a #1 get, except for the 2 other acts I mentioned.

Damn, just heard from a source why the lineup got delayed.
Headliners all picked their subs a few weeks ago but last weekend after the poster was done two of them changed their minds and want different subs. GV already booked their previous picks and signed the contracts so now they're trying to cancel the signed contracts and find new subs on short notice.
Sounds like a mess but when you give headliners complete control over subs it was bound to happen.

The Talking Heads heard Paramore’s rendition of “Burning Down the House” and decided they needed them to sub for them.

Just looking at artists who can fill SoFi Stadium (since we’re looking at comparable to Taylor, Beyonce & The Rolling Stones): Travis Scott, Green Day (if making a deal with LN), Ed Sheeran, Coldplay, Metallica, Pink, Imagine Dragons, Kaskade, Billy Joel.
Do I want to see those artists? NO. But saying Lana is the only other stadium-level artist (which she has to play, btw) is false

I could be wrong, but I was just at a two-day festival that she headlined. There were more people in the crowd at Boygenius than there were at Lana (I had to stand in the aisle for Boygenius but could have walked up to a seat at the beginning or middle of Lana's set). That fest also catered to an LGBT audience so it might just have been the biggest crowd Boygenius could possibly and not quite Lana's prime audience.
I definitely would think her headlining set at Coachella would be well attended, I just think not as much as someone who has lots of radio hits/singalong potential from more general fans.

Off the top of my head acts currently touring bigger than Lana. Ed Sheeran, Coldplay, Bruce Springsteen, Metallica, SZA, Drake, and there’s an argument for RHCP.

32 years ago Nirvana had clout to pick the most or all the mainstage lineup on their day.
