Exactly. I’ve come to terms with the fact that Coachella needs to include trashy pop headliners these days, but I’m not out here begging for it.

Look, they can do a lot worse than Justin Timberlake. He’s a lot better than Doja Cat 21 months off subbing and now having a worse album, and he probably comes cheaper now that he probably needs some image rehab work
But man, begging for this in 2024 seems so weird to me. He’s a decade past anything meaningful or culturally relevant, the current Coachella audience doesn’t really remember his cultural peaks, his music - erm - isn’t that good. It’s like all the arguments as to why nobody wants to see like The Killers headline only it doesn’t apply to a pop star for some reason
We need to start asking the real questions, like if Kylie Minogue is gonna finally be on this lineup
This is good pop yes. Same with Robyn. I don’t even have a problem with Timberlake, or Ariana, or Beyoncé/Taylor. They’re all quality pop (at least for periods of their career). But NSync/Spice/Bieber is a bridge too far.
I actually know a dude who fits “perimeter staff” for the fest and he never has any scoops at all so I’m not sure I believe the perimeter staff thing
Edit: he has no lineup scoops I mean. He actually told me about the Sahara expansion last summer

Yeah, the only reason the Timberlake begging makes sense to me is in the context of the shitty headliners we’re getting. He would be more interesting than Doja Cat to me, but I wouldn’t be thrilled by him right now either. Maybe if he makes another great album.

I think the current audience absolutely remembers his peak. His 20/20 album didn't come out THAT long ago. And the majority of Coachella attendees aren't THAT young. You see more 30 year olds than 20 year olds on the fields. And his biggest singles are recognizable to most music lovers
