Final day was lighter but ended with a great run of Mandy, Indiana>Atarashii Gakko>Doja Cat. Before lineup drop, I had not heard of the first two and never really listened to Doja Cat. Loved all three sets immensely. Could not stop smiling during AG (and I do nothing other than alcohol).
Marc Rebillet had a fun DoLab set, riffing on Do NOT lab to open the set. He is hit or miss for me, but this one hit.
Overall, a great day, not as stacked as Friday or Saturday obviously but still great.
Top 5: Atarashii Gakko Doja Mandy, Indiana Rebillet DoLab Jockstrap
Overall fest top 13 (8-13 rankings interchangeable) 1. Last Dinner Party 2. Lana Del Rey 3. Atarashii Gakko 4. Doja 5. No Doubt 6. Raye 7. Gesaffelstein 8. Beths 9. Justice 10. Black Country, New Road 11. Mandy, Indiana 12. Deftones 13. Ice Spice

1. bicep 2. gesaffelstein 3. atarashii gakko 4. l’imperatrice 5. charlotte de witte 6. justice 7. tinashe 8. sabrina carpenter 9. sublime 10. no doubt
HM: Jungle (would be top 3 probably but only saw two songs), Tyler, Prydz x Anyma, Olivia Dean
Amazing weekend of music. The classic acts were great and the rising stars brought it. Sabrina is 100% a future headliner, loved the theatrics of her show. Production all around was amazing as always.. Justice’s was obviously very cool, also liked Charlotte’s rotating screens and the Chroma visuals. Everything about Atarashii Gakko was awesome; the choreo, dancey beats, and the best crowd of the weekend. Do Lab was a ton of fun, love going first thing after walking in to get soaked. Sublime was special with Jakob leading them, perfect for a hot sunny 4/20 set.
Only had one bad crowd interaction. A guy kept falling on me at Victoria Monet so I moved away then he was getting touchy with a couple girls and making them uncomfortable so tried to talk to him to either stop or leave and he did not like that and we got into each others faces a little. He called me ugly and told me to mind my business which was funny. He wouldn’t leave so everyone around him ending up moving. Ruined a good set.
Am I just too invested in this festival or did this really seem like one of the most talked-about Coachellas in recent history? At least from my viewpoint at home I felt like the classic hype/drama/gossip was really back in full swing this year, but it could very well just be the algorithm messing with my perception. I don't say that in a negative light, either. I attended last year for the first time since 2018 and felt like I'd be satisfied for a while, but after the livestreams and seeing all of the upgrades and surprises I just want to dive head first into 2025 (even if there's a very small chance I can actually pull it off).

I’ll say algorithm. I def saw less talk but that doesn’t surprise me when the last 2 years had Frank/Bad Bunny/OMG TBA and Weeknd/Billlie/Harry/Ye cancel.
My TL talks about these artists all the time so Coachella just ramped it up. Where as my TL doesn’t speak on these artists unless they’re dropping.

Probably one of the least talked about tbh. It seemed like the big stories that broke into the broader culture was Blur's comments weekend 1 and Grimes bombing but not much from a major headliner / act perspective
Certainly has me hyped to try to get back for 2025, but I don't think this was particularly hyped

Just an absolutely stacked weekend of music. Doja cat had a very nice size crowd last night. The same as Tyler if not bigger. Was in the front for no doubt so can’t really say. Certainly felt very packed from Friday afternoon on. Seemed like the same crowd as weekend 2 last year and at least the same as last weekend. The quasar is genius. Must be like what the original central do lab felt a bit like, just on steroids. Another excellent addition. My favorite Coachella yet.
Not sure how you can pick just a top 5 so I will split this into the amount of time I spent at sets.
Full sets completely committed.
1. Justice - Been a fan a long time. Didn’t think they could take the show to another level. They did.
2. Raye - blown away. Every second. It felt like a performance from an artist with decades experience.
3. No doubt - loved Gwen in the 90’s, love Gwen now. Super fun great energy.
4. Victoria Monet - super star.
5. The Fugees - first time I’ve seen any incarnation. Right time and place. Sucker for the Marley love. And they were very very good.
HM. Kid cudi - from the Sahara herding to the exodus it was a great little adventure. Nice afternoon groove and filled the new “cudi” hill for the first time. Finish was amazing as expected. The new song he played near the end is an absolute banger.
Partial sets from deep in the crowd. Would have stayed for the whole show if possible.
1. Doja cat - i just don’t understand how you can see her live and not get it. Saw the first 20 minutes and the last 25. I just have such respect for her. What a performance. Haters will always hate.
2. Tyler - literally Bursts on stage demanding your attention and didn’t let it go. Carried the show basically alone for 90 minutes. Soooo impressed. Was absolutely exhausted, left just a bit early.
3. Rufus du sol - not the biggest fan of the records. Fucking lit up the quasar and really got our Friday night going. We all wished we could have stayed. Had to get to justice.
4. Eric Prydz & Anyma - love prydz, vibe to anyma. Music matched as good as you would expect. Actually felt a somewhat groundbreaking in that they used quasar not only to mash the individual artists music but visuals as well. Don’t remember ever seeing this layer added to a b2b. Great fun.
5. L’imperatrice - just get better and better. The band is so tight. The front woman is a star and the daft punky samples get you vibing so damn hard. Wanted to see some of Chappell roan, but the hardest set to leave.
HM. Bicep - saw about 40 minutes of the show and love the new direction. Had to catch the Doja finale. Felt like the last half hour was going to be special. Probably would be really high on my overall favorite sets if we stayed.
Partial sets showing up late and not getting deep into the Frey.
1. Barry can’t swim - you could just feel the ecstasy pouring from the tent. Felt magical. The people deep in that crowd it has to be a core memory for the rest of their lives.
2. Jhene aiko - went on a whim before Doja. Saw the last 20 minutes. Absolutely beautiful. Instant fan. Will support this human. Very emotional.
3. Eartheater - just wow. Had no idea. What an excellent surprise.
3. Sultan and Shepard - only time in the do lab all weekend. Never saw so much production over there. That set was fire.
4. Gorgon city - only time in the Yuma tent. Not the gorgon city set you would remember. Hard, dark and excellent. I’d actually put it up against my favorite 20-30 minutes of the whole festival. Was also still way up from justice.
5. Chappel roan - magnetic, very alluring. Extremely attractive energy. As others have said I can Definitely could see her blowing up.
HM. Kraungbin- wish we didn’t go all the way to anyma and saw more of this show. Just so different than the recordings.
The last dinner party - the whole group thought the show was a ten.
Not exactly sure what went wrong for me with Gesaffelstein - needed a bit of a break after no doubt. Thought it was better than the Hyperion set for sure. Got down in it for a bit after a trip to the market. Unbelievable how good that outdoor sounds inside btw, like even the food stalls have good sound at this festival. I think it was just too out of place for my specific evening to get into.
Thank you all again for another great Coachella season! May be worth a bit more positivity next go around. By far the best North American festival and it is still getting better and better.
1) Tyler, The Creator - There should be a conversation for Tyler being the best live rap show period right now, and one of the best live rappers all time 2) No Doubt - The crowd, the band, the energy. This was an excellent show in every aspect. 3) T-Pain - Finally! What a fun party, please book more acts from this era 4) Sabrina Carpenter - What a stage presence, I can see her back as at least a sub someday 5) Tems - This was beautiful, she sounds amazing and the crowd was in love. Hope she returns in a couple of years on the mainstage 6) Jungle - Danced way too hard, they sound way better live than I anticipated. Feel good music 7) FLO - What a bright future for these 3, their harmonies are amazing. We don't see R&B groups much these days, they really give that throwback feel 8) Lupe Fiasco - I could put him way high, I've seen him 5 times which is why I'm not. But he's my all time favorite rapper. Add a live band + excellent setlist and this was definitely one of his best shows for me 9) Yoasobi - J-Pop is one of my happy places and these two bring the energy 10) The Fugees / YG Marley - I was on my way to do something else when I caught Lauryn on the screen and ran over. What a set this turned out to be. I was expecting maybe 1, 2 Lauryn songs but when they pulled out a whole Fugees run + Busta Ibwas ecstatic
HM: J Balvin (would've been higher but I only caught the last 30 minutes), DJ PeeWee (Anderson Paak), 88 Rising Futures (Got to catch Atarashii here since I couldn't make their Gobi set), Jhene Aiko, Doja Cat, thuy

Rapid fire thoughts and rankings in very rough order Victoria Monet: a headliner set in the Mojave. Pretty much a flawless show with a fantastic crowd Justice: I hate giving credit to the French, but these guys are on to something Peso Pluma: a performer who unironically has "aura". A high energy headliners worthy performance for sure Deftones: fuck yeah Brutalismus 3k: this was just as wild as I was hoping Tyler: week 1 had the better guests, but still one of my favorite headlining sets of any festival Blur: woo hoo! Boy Harsher: I was losing my mind for most of this set it was so good. I think my retinas are permanently damaged from the light show Narrow Head: mosh pits and stage dives at 3pm, never change Coachella Rufus Du Sol: I was there for the beginning hour when they played into the sunset and it was so fun. Quasar stage is an elite add feeble little horse: seeing a show like this is like when you get McDonald's abroad, sometimes you want a taste of home Barry Can't Swim: I was in the thick of it for this show and I had a blast. Something about the open drug use and kids pushing to the front adds to a hyped up show Jjuujjuu: the nap monster that lives in the Sonora couches almost claimed me as a victim, then they played 2 QOTSA songs and I was wide awake
- Happy we got the hotter weather over week 1. It was perfect at night. - Went to the merch tent around 8pm on Friday and it took maybe 15 minutes at most. So smooth and easy now. - Logistics and operations just continue to get better every year. The porta-potties were always well stocked with TP and mostly clean enough. Never couldn't find water/soap at the wash stations. - I finally rode the Ferris wheel after 10 years. Nice perspective on how much the festival has physically grown/changed from my first year (2012). - Moving the Sahara south and the DoLab walkway to connect the two areas seemed like it cleared up so much traffic that would normally be in the main merch/food thoroughfare. - 90s nostalgia acts all seemed to have big crowds (except Blur). No Doubt was the biggest crowd of the weekend from what I could tell.
Best sets: 1) Gesaffelstein: Wowwwww. Probably the most cohesive, well thought out EDM performance I've ever seen, by anyone. For me, this beats out his 2015 set (I skipped Coachella 2019 and didn't see that one). The way he mixes his new material with the old stuff is perfection. His new album seemed a little weird when I listened to it, but in a live setting it all makes sense. Mind absolutely blown, still. 2) Justice: Easy #2. I expected them to be the top set of the weekend, and if it wasn't for Gesa it would be an easy choice. 3) RAYE: Such an amazing talent. One of those people who seem like they were born to sing and perform. She had the crowd in the palm of her hands the entire set. I won't be surprised if she's headlining Euro festivals in a few years, maybe even US festivals. 4) Bicep: Perfect way to close out the weekend with energy levels running low. Love they were able to do a 75 minute set. Very hypnotic performance with just the right amount of energy. 5) Jungle: You know what to expect if you've seen them before, but they always deliver. Their new lighting theme is a nice upgrade from the last tour they did.
HM: - Mdou Moctar: Dude absolutely shreds on the guitar. Higher energy and more fun than I thought it would be (and I was looking forward to the set beforehand). He seemed so happy to be performing. - The Last Dinner Party: Great live energy. Their singer has some major charisma and stage presence. - L'Imperatrice: They should always just be a mandatory Friday afternoon band. The perfect way to get the weekend started and get dancing, even in the heat. - Deftones: First half started a little slow, but the second half of the set with their big hits was so great. - Barry Can't Swim: Same thing, the first half was a little slow and wasn't really doing it for me, but the second half of the set was an absolute party. The crowd was overflowing out both sides and way out the back of the Gobi. Should've been in the Mojave.
(Had to skip out on Jungles closer and Gesaffelstein’s opener to catch No Doubts full set considering the set times, but I saw 90% of the sets so I’ll count them)
I think the overlap last night of Khruangbin, Barry, Balvin, Tems and Mandy Indiana just showed how varied the choices were on Sunday night which is apparently the "weakest" day of the weekend.

Sunday would’ve looked a lot better if these acts weren’t overlapping though. That’s, like, half the stuff I was interested in Sunday, all at the same time.
So exhausted, finally home. Just quick high level thoughts, I had said Jon Batiste was one of the single best concerts I've experienced at Coachella, and somehow Barry Can't Swim from the heart of the crowd managed to be even better than that. That was just incredible with the best crowd I've ever seen at Coachella. Quasar, like others have said, is elite. Huge crowds at Quasar having tons of fun. Great headliner counter programming, I had tons of fun until 1:00 every night and only saw four songs of No Doubt, no other headliners. Safari tent community is unmatched, it is like being at summer camp, we made so many friends and kept running into them in the guest area. Got Do Lab stage passes and danced like crazy up there. Met TPD TV. Eric Prydz, Mau P, Jungle, L'Imperatrice, Justice, RAYE, Bicep, YG Marley/Fugees, Sserafim, IsoKnock, No Doubt, Everything Always, everything that we caught was phenomenal. The crowd this weekend was just the best fucking vibes all day long no matter what stage you were at, and the festival was crazy packed but the new layout eliminates bottlenecks.
This is probably my favorite Coachella I've ever been to.

Oh, of course. That was one of the worst things this year if you had 5-7 acts per day that you wouldve liked to have seen and figured it would be spread out due to billing. Then they get all smushed cause the acts want prime scheduling and it sucks for us.
We need to see how the festival is if we have a true sellout and how spreading it out will be. Kid Cudi showed how many people the bew Sahara area can handle. You just gotta make the facilities situation over there better.

Yeah, very unfortunate scheduling. I hardly ever have more than like 60 minutes downtime between any sets most years, but Sunday I had ~2.5 hours with nobody I was interested in, and then all at once starting with Khruangbin until Bicep. Bummer timing.
No more beer jail since last year and this guy cant even get that right and makes it seem like it was a fucking burden the previous 20 years. British artists being "bullied" is what makes it the worst thing on the planet. Yet uk fests have no problem booking American artists to meet their needs.
