Scooped up a '79 Bendix Corsair Sunday for $500 from PA, it needs some love and my girlfriend and I were looking for a project over the summer/fall. If there are any camper/RV owners here, feel free to chime in with ideas, quality of life things, advice, warnings, etc etc etc! This is our first one, neither of us have much experience with them.
Towed it home with no issues, two tires are a little dry rotted but nothing serious.
It's missing some roof vents, ceiling panels, some of the cabinets are chewed up, 70s particle board falling apart, floor is gross, toilet/shower are nasty too, but the bones are solid.
We're gonna pull as much stuff out and just redo the entire interior. The OG cushions are in pretty great shape for being almost 50 years old, so I kinda hate to toss them, but aesthetically I don't know if they're gonna work.
We don't really have a design language we're following yet, first order of business is to get it fully weatherproofed again then worry about the rest.
Photo dump incoming, will attempt to keep this rolling as we go!
The evening we got it home
Yesterday was the first wash and once over. Thinking about just resealing basically everything because of the age.
View through the door, the top shelf folds down into a twin sized bed frame, no mattress/pad/whatever. Table folds down to make a bed with the bench there too.
Fridge works, runs via propane or electric so that's nice. That's real, quilted leather there in surprisingly good shape, I don't dislike it but it's weird lol
Shitty veneer wall/bathroom
The "kitchen". I think that's technically a "full-size" range, kinda scared to fire it up lol sink is in good shape, faucet/handles will be replaced.
Faux brick backsplash has gotta go lol
The "master bedroom". Bench folds out again, makes a...maybe full-size bed' both shelves above fold down into twin bunks also.
The shitter; gonna need some love!
Pic from the front towards the back, trailer itself is 19 feet, 22 with the aframe hitch.
Got in there today and cleaned it up a little inside.
Most of the junk is out, hot water heater/tank looks fine.
Found some treasure! 😅 also found an Altoids tin of what I assume is m*th lol oh boy!

Very cool! A friend did a smaller one a few years ago and brought it to Roo at least once. It was a lot of work but she enjoyed doing most of it herself because of the design control and accomplishment.
I'd love to do this but I have too many projects right now. Just got a rooftop tent for my truck, mainly so I won't be tempted to buy an expensive camper.
Definitely update this thread periodically, please.

Appreciate the support and well wishes, everyone!
I'm looking forward to doing the work, home ownership lite lol
That being said, it's gonna be a bear to get to Roo. It cost about $125 to get it 172 miles, Roo is 532 miles from me. That's, quick math, $380ish one way 😅

Hi, it me.
Spent the weekend fucking around in the trailer instead of getting ready for Roo. Pulled the insulation and gross panels down in the front half to look for leaks. Stuff is rusty but nothing serious, I don't think, anyway. Sorry for the rough pics, I understand why most pictures of campers suck, it's hard to get a good angle.

I only usually have Sunday afternoon/evening to work on this and I am not a fast worker lol found both these toads last night ~1am, fun that they're the same species but totally different color morphs. First rains here in almost two months, that's been nice.
Framed the front, rust converted the underbelly. Gonna patch the couple holes in it, then cover it with a layer of aluminum insulation and bedliner spray, then the joists, fibreglass insulation, and plywood, then the vinyl flooring. Sheesh. Overkill but I plan on using the fuck outta this camper.

In doing this project, I realized I ammany things but fast isn't one of them. Still thinking that's decent progress for Saturdays and half of Sundays only
