I’ve never been an Ott fan. When Pitchfork first started out there were reviews that were laughable. Ott made up the vast majority of those (E: For me personally). He’d take “Greatest Hits” records from well known artists and drive them in the ground. It was relentless. All while doing the same thing he accuses Basinski of promoting his old projects off of said reviews.
Not saying his opinion isn’t relevant but I honestly think he missed the point. Is Disintegration Loops a 10/10 record? Nah. Maybe 8 or 8.5 at best. But the album was about things ending. There were direct parallels to that songs and the WTC falling. Obviously he wrote it before 9/11. HE WAS LISTENING TO A PLAYBACK OF IT. Why does that even matter? To throw shade that it wasn’t directly inspired from?
People were in need after that day and latched onto anything and everything NYC and how it honored the people that died and the people that looked for them. Ryan Adam’s “New York, New York” was a fucking anthem that fall despite the fact it was a song about his girlfriend at the time. Disintegration Loops was part of that. It wasn’t the best but something that helped people cope.

I kinda think most Pitchfork reviews are/have generally been pretty bad but their long form writing is often very good.
The 9/11 thing is its own debate but I personally think the things he references as being better examples of processed/ambient like Eccojams and Ekkehard Ehlers are indeed better, and if the effects used contradict Basinski's own account I think that's fine and relevant to critique.
It's also relevant for Ott to establish that he's worked in the genre to be able to make that assessment. I don't think the thrust behind doing that is self-promotion. So I don't really see that as similar to Basinski using 9/11 imagery and mythology to continue to do Disintegration Loops shows to this day when he has other material that may be more interesting. It's like he says, it's a good story. But I also think it's fine to say the music contained on the album The Disintegration Loops is not a 10/10 and does not really represent a high water mark of the genre.

Is cash king at this event? Going to Glasto two years ago now, I pulled some pounds out with Wells Fargo. I did not bring too much because they claimed it would be mainly cashless. This wasn't really the case and I ended up pulling some more cash out. Anyone with experience on how much I should pull out/if bars in the fest take euro or card. thx (we have the best lineup of the year btw)

nah they had their network go down at the beginning of 2022 but since then card is king
Unlikely I'll be watching, but is there a place onsite to catch the Champions League Final?
I'm a pretty big watching sports at music festivals guy and I don't think so because I've never caught any NBA playoffs/Finals stuff. But for something like the UCL Final it might be a different story.

Does anybody know when she officially dropped last year? I know New Order was added on March 7th, and she had dropped prior to that. Trying not to get my hopes up, but it has to be a good sign she's still on this lineup into April.
Edit: It looks like March 1st, according to Reddit
Anyone bought resale to this thing. I can't tell if these people are verifiable on the Reddit / there seems to be no stubhub
DICE app, I think. There's a full weekend on there for €311+fees. It says it's the second release. You can also do Primavera Pro Basic on the website still for €360+fees, which gets you into the festival and also the networking shit. Not a terrible price relative to US fests anyway.
The PS FAQ says resale is not permitted, and that isn't really elaborated on other than the standard "the festival can't help if you get scammed" type language.

yeah I have seen the second release and its obvi still pretty good priced compared to other fests but lots of ppl offering up tix on reddit and the like for 200 euro just cant tell if its worth the risk of getting stiffed to try to save the 100 bucks
