What was that festival in New York (2015?) that had a massive storm and everyone got arrested lmao. I think the Flaming Lips headlined.
Absolutely ridiculous lineup. Shame it turned into a shit show. I can remember a few bigger ones that died in the golden era because they didn't have their asses covered when emergency struck.
Shame about Firefly. It was my second ever camping fest b2b with Roo in 2014. Amazing year, went downhill after 2015. I don't understand why they leaned so heavy into the pop punk when they needed to be a multigenre fest like Roo and draw in a wider demographic to do the big numbers they were expecting.
It was a terrible experience in 2015 but the lineup was good enough to keep me interested in going in future years. There was quite a mix of old and young as well because of the way they booked. Seemed like they became too laser focused on catering to the college crowd. It’s a pretty cool venue though so it’s a shame.

They lost all the folks who were coming the first several years because it was a uniquely good rock/alt/indie fest with solid headliners + few good EDM and rap/hiphop acts peppered in. The lineup shifted to a more diverse, multi-genre fest and overall became watered-down. Something for everyone but nothing that special for anyone. Come sleep in a field in Delaware and listen to this year's top 40 radio hits. There are other factors of course: AEG's hand in things, the pandemic, fest bubble, etc. But look at the Oceans Calling lineup, which is going to be a total sellout within days, and tell me Firefly made a good move in changing its focus. And for fun, scroll down Firefly's Wiki page to see how much everyone completely stopped caring about this fest.
Same festival: 2015: Macca, KOL, Killers - Estimated attendance 80-90k 2019: Panic!, Travis Scott, Post Malone - Estimated attendance 50k
Sorry for the old man rant but I had love for this thing.

The lineup and target demo for Oceans Calling or similar festivals is tried and true. People 30-50+ years old are going to spend money$$$ on festivals like that. That wasn't exactly or certainly entirely what Firefly was, but it definitely leaned in that direction until they decided pop/EDM/rap was the focus for some reason.
i went twice. first time for a half day to see Portugal, Arctic Monkeys, and Foos. Cost me $115 for the day i think. Those 3 acts alone were worth it. Went back a few years later thanks to someone on here havin some secret code from a dentist office for free wristbands and it worked. Did 2 days of the 3 and they were filled with tons of mid and lower card acts i love. had a blast. i really enjoyed that barn they had. I saw Main Squeeze, Lee Fields, and lets eat grandma in there. they had a tiny bud light pop stage, too. I saw Ripe play htere and everyone went so hard i swore the speakers were gonna collapse.

The dentist office code year was the best. I wasn't gonna pay to go, but for free I had a blast. All fests should have a dentist office code.
