My dreams were wild last night. First I had a sprawling dream about a fascist regime taking over, but futuristic, and I and my friends were escaping through a bunch of various environments and vast terrains.
Then I had a dream that was just a lineup poster with Reading Rainbow as the Friday subheadliner below Luke Combs.
I think we can move Justice, Vampire Weekend and King Gizz to a notch or two below locked. The Festiverse Discord has been popping the last two days.
FWIW, while all 3 of these are above “plausible” on the rumor thread, only KGLW is the “reasonably likely” category, the other two are still in the “speculative” category. Brad mentioning VW offhand doesn’t put them a notch below locked.
It's me again. Your faithful servant Cincinnasti. I figured I should dedicate, oh father, my 4000th post on inforoo dot com to your omnipotence and might in the form of a prayer. So here goes nothing.
Lord, you have given us many, many acts on Bonnaroo lineups of late. I think back to the Fleet Foxes set in This Tent and I am in awe of the beauty of your grace, oh Christ. When I recall the Late Night MMJ set from '23, dear God, I am immediately inundated in your tender mercies, in a manner of speaking. And whose spirit, pray tell, was not rejuvenated and made anew when Billy Strings briefly sat in on the Post Malone set.
In the midst of my gratitude, however, I am given pause when I remember the bookings, dear creator, less than deserving of my "hallelujah." Seeing MGK on a top line of the poster shook my faith to its very core, Lord. Where was your divine providence when Melanie Martinez took the stage? When the Revivalists strummed their first chord, where then was your Holy Spirit?
I stand humbly before you oh God. In the coming year, may you bless your devotees with the likes of King Gizz, Turnstile, Justice, MJ Lenderman, Charli XCX, Kamala Harris, and FKA twigs. Please mercifully withhold the plagues of DMB, Benson Boone, The Offspring, Katy Perry, Donald Trump, and the entire genre of wonky bass.
In his dearest name I pray, Amen
Offspring would be a great Thurs night headliner, IMO.
While this has become the expectation, and we may not see eye to eye with them on what would be considered a blow-your-mind booking… it’s interesting to think about how someone from the Bonnaroo team is so comfortable with this level of failure. It should be obvious that one of the 5-7 most prestigious festivals in the country should be attempting to land a whale every single year. He says it as if they have recently been booking McCartney level acts but oh this year will just be a little less mind blowing than RHCP / Post Malone / Fred Again.
They haven’t made a splash headliner booking since 2017. Its not simply “hey thats how the cards fell for us this year.” No - you’ve failed to book a head-turning #1 act in 7 straight tries. With how long its been, it would be fair for someone to claim Bonnaroo is currently incapable of booking a McCartney level headliner. Actually weirdly triggering if they are talking as if they still have the swag of a festival that could do that even if they wanted to.
I’m actually pretty surprised we haven’t had The Black Keys since 2011. Not pushing for it. Just seems like a filler band that would get booked regularly.
I was a bit underwhelmed when I saw them at that Roo. They seem a bit overwhelmed by outside when there's just 2 of them up there. They need extra musicians when they play outside, IMO.
In hindsight the 2017 lineup is not bad tbh. A lot of really big names and people who’ve blown up since 2017. I didn’t attend that year but besides that Saturday late night the rest of the fest wasn’t that bad.
I was there and thouroughly enjoyed U2. Saw the wildest Cage set I've ever seen (have seem them 8 times) and a wild Portugal the Man set in This Tent. Would have to look at the complete list of artists for that year to give a more nuanced opinion.
To the point of Roo isn't booking big acts, I think we forget that they tried and almost got Talking Heads which would change how we view modern Roo even if it was a LN package deal. As for Luke, despite you maybe not liking him, for Roo to book a man who can sell out residencies at FOOTBALL stadiums for Thursday is nuts. We talk about getting Gaga etc, but within genre this man is among the 3 biggest at the moment.
Unfortunately, Mr. Byrne is a giant (and rich) quackwad who (IMO) will never reunite the Heads. I've spoken with both Tina and Chris and that's what they think. Tis sad. Can you imagine 'Life During Wartime' or 'Psycho Killer' on the What Stage at midnight or so?!?! Whipping out the big suit...
I mean with Nashville being literally right there as its main metro it is surprising to me that it has taken this long for Bonnaroo to get a full on country headliner.
Wouldn't sell tics to the yoots, but the biggest absolutely country guy they could get would be George Strait. He headlined at ACL a few years ago.

Yeah, not suggesting they should get booked. Just saying I’m surprised they haven’t been booked since 2011.
