Interesting question because I looked back and yeah, pretty great track record for headliners usually, although I would argue RHCP is worse if only for the fact that they have like 2 or 3 good songs at most, and Anthony Kiedis is a POS. Hozier has a few solid songs at minimum (in my my eyes) AND brings out the hot girls. So really up to what you prefer.

Also just yesterday realized I got so caught up with the fun of speculation here that I forgot I already have a show during Roo and probably won’t even be able to make it 😭

Agreed that kiedis is a pos, but they have a pretty massive collection of quality hits. Their show last year was phenomenal in my opinions; Flea, Chad, and John are all top tier musicians

Couple different ways to look at this question:
Talent/Quality of Music Post Malone is far, far worse than Hozier in this regard. In fact I’d say that Post Malone is the only headliner Bonnaroo has ever booked that makes music that isn’t good at all. Post Malone is a blight upon artistry.
Marketing: LCD Soundsystem ruined Bonnaroo once. I love LCD Soundsystem, but most people don’t even know who they are. J Cole was recently booked while both having his own festival in a neighboring state and just generally being very bland. J Cole the Will Smith of my generation in this rap game. Nice guy but like, how long can you hold my attention with raps about paying my taxes on time?
Live Show: Stevie Nicks, at this age, fucking sucks and is riding behind a deep greatest hits catalog. Her voice is a challenge to listen to. She is not particularly good at guitar. If she hadn’t been in Fleetwood Mac she’d be opening for like, Grand Funk Railroad at casinos. Billy Joel totally mailed it in and played for like half of his allotted time. J Cole is just boring as hell.
In conclusion: No, Hozier is not the worst headliner booking ever

I figured it might be a bit of a hot take. I’m exaggerating a bit but over the years a lot of their hits have started to grate on my ears. Great musicians for sure, but it just doesn’t click for me the way it does for others.

welcome to the not going to bonnaroo but still following the thread club
Really bizarre seeing the discourse on Red Clay's billing when I used to see them at a small bar in Mobile like weekly. Didn't realize they had picked up so much steam these days!

lol
Maybe if you look at what they play. But they have a few dozen great songs. Here are a few - True Men Don't Kill Coyotes, Baby Appeal, Jungle Man, Hollywood, Freaky Styley, If You Want Me To Stay, Catholic School Girls Rule, Fight Like a Brave, Me and My Friends, Backwoods, Behind the Sun, Party on your Pussy, Walkin on Down the Road, Good Time Boys, Nobody Weird Like Me, Taste the Pain, Stone Cold Bush, Power of Equality, If You Have to Ask, Breaking the Girl, Righteous & The Wicked, Blood Sugar Sex Magik, Sir Psycho Sexy, Aeroplane, One Hot Minute...
And that's all before Californication. Come on man.

bro RHCP wasn't even the worst headliner on the years they played.
Also in a post-post Malone world, no, Hozier would not be the worst lol.

Post is very just okay to me. A few good songs, lotta stuff that has aged badly, but also some just middling stuff so I can see an argument against him regardless.
Looking back at other years they played: Radiohead and Phish are both better, and so are The Weeknd and U2. All in my own opinion of course: Radiohead is just great, solid catalog and notably good live shows, Phish are supposed to be peak jam show so I struggle to see how RHCP tops that. Weeknd has a phenomenal voice and good song writing and production (although not necessarily my cup of tea usually) and U2 are a rare get with great hits and another notably solid live show.

RHCP having only 2 to 3 good songs is such a cold take.

not a fan of U2 or Post personally lol. also I only found 2017/2024 for years RHCP played... whoops, but I'm not much of a Phish guy.
