What are the chances of a 4th headliner for Thursday night like PL? I feel like that might be fun to start the weekend off with a big edm or pop act on Thursday night.

Personally I'd like to see them save the thursday headliner slot for legacy acts that used to be huge but now probably couldn't headline yes I just want to see WSMFP in that slot.

Bonnaroo seems to repeat trends that are successful so I'd imagine they're trying to get someone in that spot. That being said if they can't get anything special I'd rather just have a traditional Thursday

Zeroooooo interest on the Linkin Park reunion, it’s essentially Mike Shinoda + Friends…looks like only two other original member besides Mike are going to be part of this. Weird that the drummer and DJ both decided to not partake in this.
Replacing Chester with a female vocalist is cool in theory but this just screams cheeseball to me.
I mean, who’s asking for this? Those last three records were all pretty terrible.

they got even more popular after Chester’s death and a huge portion of those new fans never had a chance to see them live.

every year there are a ton of mocks with zero “legacy” headliners and i guess it makes sense that one year they’re going to finally switch up and not book one but being that there hasn’t been a single year without one so far, what do we thing our tangible legacy options are this year?

also what's the standard for legacy? I get you can just say the amount of years between debut year and festival appearance but I think that ignores how long into their career a band was releasing relevant music. Feel like Foo's last relevant album was 2011 and pretty much every album before had a couple of big songs. Some of their biggest songs (Best of You, Pretender, Walk, These Days) were only 12-15 years ago. Same w da Peppers for Stadium Arcadium so I'm not totally sure either are "legacy".

2018?
i’d argue that all 3 feel like legacy-cusp. i guess they all debuted around the same time but eminem probably feels the most like the legacy pick of the three

i’d say that if you were already huge 20+ years ago, you could be considered “legacy” but it also just depends on the artist. feels a bit like a cop out to say it’s vibe-based but it sort of is. like i think gaga would feel like a legacy headliner despite her debut being 2007 just bc she’s been such a huge presence in the industry since then. but another act that had their debut around then and didn't blow up to headliner status until years later (think a band like twenty one pilots or tame impala) definitely wouldn’t feel like a legacy pick

I don't think 2007 is old enough at all imo but this bolded part does the opposite for me. She's released music people have cared about pretty consistently. She's not just totally coasting off legacy status like Stevie Nicks or something.

if Em didn't release Recovery or MMLP2, I might agree with you but those just feel too recent. The Killers are for sure coasting off like 2 1/2 albums but again might be too recent.

I'm gonna say that a legacy headliner is an act that has not had any major albums or handful of singles in the last 20 years. I don't think that yields any bizarre results.
Legacy for me is do they put out new music? and if so do they play more than 1 or 2 songs from the most recent album on tour
yeah but some legacy acts try to promote new albums no one cares about. Paul was doing 3 songs from Egypt Station and 2 from New in 2019, Stones doing 4 from Hackney Diamonds this year.
Legacy starts when they've given up trying to change their sound and they release an album that sounds like a rehashed version of their classic oeurve.
Dog whistle indicators include "we are getting back to our roots" and "this is the best album we've done since (our good album)".
If it's a metal band - you need to say "it's our heaviest album yet".

I feel Dave Matthews Band has been mentioned quite a lot over the last couple of years to return. Not saying they should, but I definitely see them as a legacy headliner that is likely to be back some year.
