hot take but booking Gambino for next year might be worse than booking Post this year. At least Post put out a handful of songs people care about since 2019.

Gambino is significantly better than Post though imo, Posts set felt kind of cheesy to me this year aside from the Billy appearance.

I really liked Gambino's last album. I like what I've heard from the new one, but every time I think to listen to it, my children are around.

Post was a great time. Gambino is gonna run through 10 songs of an album that no one listened to before you hear his good songs which came out 9 years ago and all of which were played at his 2019 set.
My latest best educated guess on what we'll see in the old school format:
Dua Lipa - Childish Gambino - Phish Charli XCX - Rufus Du Sol - Glass Animals - Justice Sublime - Modest Mouse - Alanis Morissette - Fisher - Jamie XX
Some other notes: I think there's a realistic possibility Pearl Jam is in play, maybe as a back pocket pick if a headliner doesn't work out. Which seems entirely possible now that Tame most likely isn't happening. I can also see them bumping Charli up to headliner since they do seem to want to showcase some pop girl in the top lines and I really don't think Sabrina is happening. Charli's tour seems to be making big waves and the amped up hyper-pop seems to be a good fit for Roo, which makes that kinda realistic.
I also think it's possible they try to salvage some deals from the second day of South Star, so bands like Sublime, Jimmy Eat World, or Goo Goo Dolls may be in play. Maybe Blink, but I really doubt it.

also, who was really asking for a Gambino 2025 headlining set? I get they've had a rap headliner every year since 2017 (if you exclude 2020, even then, Chance felt like a HL set) but I'd rather them just get Tyler or not bother.

Something I've learned a lot in recent months is when they say they often have to book who is available over who they want, they really mean that. Things have changed drastically after the pandemic.
I had a conversation with someone at South Star this past weekend that really drove that home in terms of last year's headliners.
I'll be honest and transparent, Phish isn't a name that I've heard "officially" talked about in my own circles at least. I'm just kind of figuring it wouldn't be a hard get, and it's fairly logical since their crowd is always an easy sell.

I think Phish is more likely than Dua based on what you're saying. Unless they locked down Dua in advance I don't see her performing at Bonnaroo during her Europe tour.
I think Dua could go either way, I know there's some intent there but I'm not sure where they landed. It's worth noting she's repped by some of the same people as Tame and package deals reportedly are all the rage these days.
If Dua doesn't work out, then Roo is probably gonna be brat.

you fail to consider that they were revealed to me in a dream
Viva La Vida erasure Everyday Life and Head Full of Dreams are also solid
timestamped video. i try to be mr. clever smarmy too cool for school man when it comes to live music a lot, but this young lady in the video singing Viva La Vida, then starting to cry when the mashup from Porter Robinson's "Language" is thrown in, then jumping up and down when the beat drops, is unironically everything pure and good and magical about live music.
big songs are big for a reason, they connect with people. grateful that at 43 years old i'm still able to have experiences like this.
Post was pretty good when he headlined in 2019, then he came back and did almost the same setlist again in 2024.
Gambino's 2019 set is considered one of the best performances from that year, and for a lot of people, one of the best shows they've ever seen(myself included). Meanwhile, his latest album is a soundtrack for his upcoming movie. Andddddd if you don't fw bino rapping over the crazy prodigy sample on Got to Be then I can't help ya.

I saw Gambino in August and can confirm that when he played this track it went hard as fuck and everyone went batshit crazy!!!!
i also saw one of his shows back in august and it was such a great set list. perfect mash up of old and new stuff, he brought the energy. his production was really cool too if they can get it to roo somehow

Jamie XX seems to be touring around his new album. It's been 10 years since he played Bonnaroo as is incredibly more popular nowadays. Probably not big enough for the Thursday What spot but definitely one of the bigger EDM bookings in 2025.

It's a devastating booking. It's hard to compare the feeling to when I learned about Post because Post was paired with RHCP out the gate. At the very least I'd think Post would help a little with ticket sales and is a more fun show to fuck around at while drunk.
