We're less than 48 hours from the advance sale...are we doing it or nah?
begrudgingly in for weekend 2 again even though I'm still salty we never get the good surprise acts. this will surely be the year...
I'm a bit more confident now than I was after last year. At that point it looked like they had brought Arcade Fire for W1 in 2022 and Blink for W1 in 2023, and unless it's true that TBA was always planned as a surprise (which I'm slightly dubious about, but it's definitely possible) it seemed like they were content just shafting W2 every year. But this year having Cudi (who is probably more widely popular than VW, albeit not to this board's general taste) makes the the TBA thing more likely to be true in which case I think W2 is always going to get a surprise of similar scale, and it'll be a toss-up which weekend is preferable.
My super unreasonable worry is about the fact that they don't seem to schedule them at the same time. So if/when I Bothchella again, I might make a conflict choice W1 assuming I'll see the other more preferable act W2, only for a huge surprise I'm super into to be announced as a conflict in that slot.
That's how I do it and I was fine with just one weekend based on the lineup this year, but man by the time I was watching the W1 streams I was definitely regretting it lol.
Weekend 2 this year. Hoping for a few green grass blades left
Honestly the past 2 years there seemed to be a surprising amount of grass left W2, except for the Gobi/Sahara and by Sunday the Mojave. Unfortunate cause this was the year of the Gobi for me, but the rest of the fest has remained remarkably pleasant though obviously not as good as W1.

It's absolutely true. I was told about TBA way before Frank dropped and that they'd be in the Friday Sahara slot Blink had.
Re: presale, wife and I were all onboard to do it (W1 this year because Easter...so bummed but toddlers and all that shit) but VMT hasn't put anything out yet (unless I am fucking stupid and missed it?). I think we are doing Safari again - heard a rumor that the Residences are coming back down in price because they barely sold any which is exciting - but even if no Safari, we've been doing hotel packages for years. Really weird VMT shit is not ready. Maybe hotel negotiations were harder because of this years resale market? Dunno.

The vmt page is updated for 2025 but theyre holding on on whats what til friday I guess. And they really need to make Easter a set weekend already. Is it so difficult to just say its the first weekend of April every year instead of switching between the end of March to the end of April? No other holiday changes like that every single year. I swear we had easter one year where it was 4/20 on top of it
If you’re staying offsite, I’m always always always going to advocate for Morongo, since it’s damn near the same amount of driving time from Palm Springs and maybe 20 minutes further than Palm Desert, and it’s only going to cost 1k total from Thursday to Monday for a great quality king or double Queen room. Not to mention you have several on-site restaurants and cafes and have that awesome lazy river/pool. Also in n out, chipotle, and few other spots are within walking distance, it has free shaded parking… I don’t know why more people don’t stay at Morongo.

I don’t know exactly when you were told or by who but I know from a best possible source that as of about two weeks before the fest they weren’t booked. Doesn’t mean it wasn’t always the plan to have someone in the Blink spot weekend 2, but TBA came together very late. All the rumors about Skrillex or Fred playing on this or that stage that were floating around in the lead up to the fest were wrong until they ended up being right purely by chance.

I’ll take it! As long as there are some green spots walking place to place and not crazy amounts of dust.
Went weekend 1 this year and it was year of the Gobi for me as well. Got up close and personal with a lot of acts in there

I heard it in two parts - that Fred and Skrillex were going to be on the lineup before the drop, and then about a week before the fest (i think it was during W1, Frank definitely had not canceled) that it was OMG TBA (obviously not named that at the time) in the Blink spot. You may be right then, that the earlier rumors were just lucky. TBH, if they were booked only a few weeks before Coachella (not sure when Blink was booked), that lines up with what Vampire Weekend said onstage that they got the call a week before the festival.
bizarrely - think I stumbled upon the 2025 fees chart around a month ago. i saved it to my desktop thinking it was the 2024 fees chart. this was on April 2. WTF. now i'm more confused...

I sure hope this is true but ultimately weekend 1 couchella is more important than a random surprise (I think) unless it's something nuts.

Well thats what they put up and right now its taken down. If they messed up then theyre fixing it. Except they tweeted yesterday about payment plans and paying $69 a month which is what a tier 1 ga costs you if you did it. So maybe some other changes happened but their interns messed up
Is Eldorado worth it / does it sell out in the general sale?
I've never done it and considered doing so but honestly, if I'm going to drop several thousand on camping I think the Safari packages are waaayyy more worth it than El Dorado.

Easter is 4/20 next year haha. You wanna make it a set date better figure out how to control the earth and the moon.

Summer Solstice is always the last week of June. I wonder why.....
It would be great if the eclipse was on Easter. Wouldve had a holy war on our hands.

Damn, those staying at Morongo have to drive an entire extra 5 minutes longer than those staying in Palm Springs :/

I've done it three times, but not in a long time. There is a great community vibe, tons of international people since it is a way to camp and not bring anything (drunk Australians everywhere you look each year I did it). Pretty secure, great location 10 minute walk to the venue and right by all the food vendors. It has been selling extremely well recently and often sells out. I think both weekends sold out this year, so not surprising its the only cost that has risen. Personally, El Dorado is fun and if you really want to camp but are capped at El Dorado it is a great option. If you are flexible about camping vs non camping and can pay a little more, I found the La Quinta Resort to be by far the best "luxury" option at that price point. The shuttle ride is only like 15 minutes to the venue and its the only one on its line so you go directly back at night and don't have to stop at any other hotels. There are over 40 pools on site, which means you can party in the huge party pool or find tons of pools where you are the only group there. The grounds are gorgeous. It is about 1.5x El Dorado I think in terms of price most years. If you can pay 2x the 2-person El Dorado VIP price, then Safari offers substantially more value and is the single best way to do Coachella IMO and makes El Dorado pointless. So I think it just depends on what you can/want to spend, but it's not a bad option at all and I had a lot of fun when I did it.

lol stupid.
20 miles is not 5 minutes but ok.
You literally have Google Maps, Waze, Apple Maps, etc at your disposal with directions that tells you exactly how long it takes to get from place to another. You act like I'm making this up. Morongo is a straight shot on a highway with it being right off the exit and Palm Springs requires taking streets with stoplights.
If it’s just my wife and I, which it always is these days, I’m not going to throw down thousands of dollars to save 20 minutes each way. It’s really not that serious. Especially since we don’t drink.
