Taylor has said before that she wants to play Coachella. I don't think for an artist of her stature that it has to be completely boiled down to a cold calculation of how much she could earn playing Coachella vs how much she could make playing shows, especially since she already played six shows in LA last year and is literally coming off a billion dollar grossing world tour. personally I imagine headlining one of the most prestigious and culturally relevant music festivals in the world is a desirable career accomplishment in and of itself, and I agree she'd be far more likely to do a one-off special show specifically designed for the festival. and I don't think we'd be hearing her name thrown around (incl last year) if GV thought there was no way to make it work financially.
People have hypothesized in the past that Coachella may say a weekend is sold out and then continue to dump tickets on Stubhub.
Could they not do something similar in the case where they do have Taylor Swift and know they will sell out? ie only sell, say ~80k tickets through normal channels and then release everything else through stubhub.
~45k tickets at lets say $1.5k post stubhub fees could net them like $40M more than through general sale...
Seems kind of crazy, but with Taylor as a headliner seems like something that could be pulled off? maybe even work some profit sharing with her if too risky to do all upfront.
Seems the problem statement right now is that huge artists see more $$$ through their own stadium shows. This is effectively hindered by Coachella ticket prices, so why not let the market forces help.
If it came out that Coachella and Taylor worked out a deal to sell tix at $1500 a piece on StubHub that sounds like a PR nightmare.
I think it’s also worth noting that Taylor didn’t do dynamic pricing for the Eras tour and had quite a few cheap tickets available (source: I bought some). Never put it past a celebrity etc. but I wouldn’t jump to assuming she’d do that lol.

In this case she wouldnt have to. Coachella would do the dirty work ha. Its their festival, she's just playing in it!
i think this is what it comes down to. Coachella dominance and, maybe, best Coachella performance ever is something Beyonce can say.
As of now, Taylor cannot.
I’ve seen Taylor 3 times and I don’t think she is capable of putting on a performance better than Beyoncé.
Especially with that pitchy voice/limited range/bland & generic repetitive melodies in her songs 😂… it is all about production and hyped fandom. “Kanye actually saved her life” and she better not be proclaiming giving the GOAT performance at Coachella LOL. Let me be mesmerized and electrified or my life be changed with minimal hypes & less of the crazies, effortlessly by the young Olivia Rodrigo and Adele’s voices at the Polo Field.

This. I'm sure playing Coachella would be more about stroking her ego and checking another box than making bands. She could cash grab in 100000 other ways if she wanted (See the eras tour book)
It does make sense for 2025 to finally be her year. With the Eras Tour ending, she can make a unique show for Coachella and turn it into a streaming movie, ala Homecoming. There are quite a few hits and fan favorites that didn’t make it into the Eras setlist, so Taylor could easily have nearly-all of her Coachella setlist be different from the tour.

I can’t even imagine who would guest with her. She could call any artist in the world and they’d probably say yes.
I’m not a fan but I’d probably check out part of the set. Like someone said I doubt she’d do the Eras show, she’d do something unique with a chance to have lots of collaborators join her.

I agree, but that doesn’t mean Taylor doesn’t want to try. I’ve seen Beyoncé twice - best performed walking this planet and maybe all time. She’s unreal

Man, you are really not fun.
It better be said now and once only than be accused later I have something against her because she killed my puppy or something or so nobody will be endlessly saying later it is/will be the GOAT ever at Coachella.
Thing is that re: Taylor on numerous occasions has publicly said that she's not continueing the Eras Tour in 2025. So either she will do something else or an adaptation like Beyoncé, but I don't think grossing wise it's not even gonna be close costs wise vs the 10 (?) millions she'd receive.
Except theres the part where the promoter has already done their job in making this the biggest grossing tour and a cherry on top Coachella performance which has lots of financial incentives is a smart move. Profit margin even if they gotta fork over a few extra mil will still exceed their expectations. If she got another disney/netflix movie out of this and it hit theaters its extra cash just for her. The selling of exclusive merch on the livestream prob brings in more extras. Wonder how it wouldve gone if FTX never went belly up and she had taken that $100 mil deal and Coach had FTX as a partner still.

I've always said this to people who doubt that Taylor would play Coachella and focus on the money. She doesn't need the money, she doesn't even need the touring money at this point. It's always a matter of whether she's wanted to and has the time, and last year seemed like neither given the tour. It's the same thing as a Beyonce booking, you dominate the press of the weekend and get credited for once again ringing in the glory of Coachella, except this would be that x100, and would be the biggest festival news in years. That's likely the thing that she wants, she seems very PR focused, along with the associated streaming deals. The extra revenue avenues are just the cherry on top.
It's also just a major chapter (regardless of where you are in the spectrum of stardom) and fun thing to do for many big artists. If I was a huge artist, even if I didn't need Coachella, I'd sure as hell perform, especially when I'd be getting the best treatment of the entire festival and get to attend everyday outside of rehearsals, prep, and performance. To me it's never made sense for top artists to turn down Coachella when they aren't touring because literally why not?

There is still so much content left to be released from the Eras Tour, including the rumored live album and the documentary about the making of and backstage moments from the tour. I highly doubt Taylor will go straight to Coachella with the same show. Coachella would be another highlight in her career, and knowing her, it’s likely she’ll release another live concert on streaming platforms based on her experience with the festival. If we are having a pop star headline 2025, give us GAGA and save Taylor for 2026.

She wants the money thats the thing. Not about need. If artists at that level who didnt need the money would do what The Cure has done and let everyone afford tickets to their concerts. It will be a very interesting reaction if she is on the poster though. The people who dropped thousands to sit in the nosebleeds will see this as a bargain and it wont be the current tour show either. I mean thats how the Beyhive saw it in 2018. You never get another chance to be this close to Beyonce in a non vip setting pretty much, so go for broke. Curious to see if car camping passes end up going for almost as much as a weekend pass on resale. Easily over $1000 I bet.

yeah she needs to block 5 more female artists from getting #1 by the end of the year
