I'm wondering more about why they wouldn't announce it. It's not like it would conflict with someone else's set so a 2nd or 3rd set from someone would be strange to not announce.
In my opinion these make the most sense:
1. Side project of someone on the lineup 2. Artist who makes a guest appearance during the festival 3. Four Tet x Fred Again..

Alright I've got a new way to approach a top 10 most anticipated list.
Nick Wright has a segment on FS1 called "Title Pie" in which he uses a pie chart to assign percentages to the likelihood of each team winning the NBA Title. So even if Team A is a better team than Team B, Team B could have an easier path or a particular variable that gives them a higher percentage chance to win the whole thing. Its about winning the whole thing, not who's mostly likely to get there or even win in the next round.
Let's think about Title Pie but for the Set of the Weekend. Which acts on the lineup have an actual shot to be your #1 set of the weekend? Not number 2. Number 2 means nothing here. Which could possibly do it? And what are their percentages of likeliness in your mind?
As an example, I am currently more excited for Armand Hammer than I am for Mdou Moctar. I loved Armand Hammers last album, listen to them more often and know for a fact that I always will listen to them more often. However, I know there is a 0% chance that Armand Hammer ends up as the best show of the weekend. Given their time of day, lack of variability to their typical show, known to be lower energy. There is no chance. However, Angelique Kidjo ended up being my number 1 show of 2017. I could give Mdou Moctar a couple percentage points. What if they end up with a 3/4 full tent and everyone is dancing hard the whole time. What if that ends up being the best guitar work and overall musical display of the weekend and the whole thing is just an absolute blast cover to cover? I can't completely rule it out. I also know I'll enjoy Armand Hammer and for all I know ill be very bored by Mdou. But that doesn't matter here. It's only about the ceiling.
There are acts that I'm more excited for, but I know they don't have the ceiling of number 1 overall is what I'm saying.
So here's my breakdown as of now, and I'd be curious to see others... with maybe an explanation of how the set gets there.
Jortles Title Pie: Roo Edition
1. Parcels - 20%: Now that they gave them 1.5 hours, Parcels has a great shot. It makes them more likely to break into their dancey jams from Live Vol 2. They are one of the tightest bands I've ever seen. It will be a huge dance party at a perfect time. Importantly its a dance party with many anticipated songs throughout the setlist unlike a jam band, which matters to me. The percentage is a little held back because Idles will be in the back of my head and that fucks with me sometimes.
2. The Mars Volta - 17%: Set up as perfectly as Parcels to take the crown. Good set length. Late night. My understanding is they crush live. I see the number one spot coming to "how big of a dance party was Parcels" vs "how blown the fuck back was I by TMV."
3. Four Tet - 14%: I think it needs to be overcast for this to happen. But idk... 1.5 hours. All the homies will be there. I always pictured seeing Four Tet for the first time in the dark. So I just imagine there will be a little something to be desired to where I won't be able to call it #1. But again thats a long set for Roo. It will also probably feel pretty fashionable to list this as your #1 if it's really great.
4. Fred Again - 12%: Being the potential last show I ever see at Roo. With all the friends in the What field one last time. Fred making emotional music. I also find myself wanting to turn on fred bangers more than most of the other stuff on this lineup.
5. Pretty Lights Sunrise - 10%: While I think it's more likely that this doesn't end up in my Top 10 at all, I have to save significant room for the chance that PL sells me during a huge sunrise spot and it becomes the defining moment of Bonnaroo 2024.
6. Roisin Murphy - 9%: Late night thursday when we have the most energy. Seems very plausible that she'll have the best stage show of the weekend. A rare bonnaroo booking.
7. Geese - 6%: This could be the perfect rowdy Thursday set with big moments in quite a few songs. Maybe the band Im most excited for based on their music I just have them a little lower because I for some reason find it hard to imagine they will be better than TMV live, ultimately. Even though I prefer Geese's music. Only an hour long set too for a band where I think an extra 30 would instantly put them in title contention.
8. BigXThaPlug - 6%: I'm not even planning on seeing BigX all the way through because of Geese... unless... If this show is turning into one of those all-time Roo thursday party shows and it's seeming like a breakout career moment for BigX... then I might have to make the decision to stay in the thick of it. And I will be up front. It will be dark out.
9. Dombrance - 3%: I'm loving this guy. 2 hour set in the dark. Where in the Woods. If I thought there was a chance that there will be more than 30 humans in the woods for this set, it would be higher. If I knew there would be 500 ppl there, I think this would have a major shot for me. Hard for me to picture this being better than Four Tet, but being during the dark, for an extra half hour... If suns blazing at Four Tet I could see this easily being my favorite electronic set of the weekend.
10. Mdou Moctar - 3%: explained above.
At this point in time, I don't believe any other artist has a single % chance of being my number one set of the weekend. I didn't mean for this to perfectly land at 10.Maybe if they randomly gave Brittany Howard a 1.5 hour late night set. Or if Idles didn't conflict with Parcels.
I think last year MMJ would have had like an 85% kind of figure on this, but this year is a lot more up for grabs... meaning I'm not THAT excited about anything that is also overwhelmingly set up better than all the other acts.
I can make sense of it being ISOKNOCK.
1. Both artists already on the lineup individually, so it wouldn't move tickets if announced now. 2. They have both become very popular with the other stage kind of crowd, so it could make sense to keep something like this under wraps in the woods.

neither has any dates around roo currently either so it stands that they could stay all weekend
Ima keep it simple and say its going to be Pretty Lights collective appearances, 100%. I already know. It will be my favorite of the weekend. PL was one of the two electronic artists that got me into the genre. I was there for his last appearance in 2013 when he played hours beyond his set time on the Which and the sun was close to coming up when it was over. Not seeing him play for over 5 years when he was dealing with demons and being able to see them play last fall at The Caverns mini fest just down the road from Bonnaroo was a glimpse into what we can expect for the shows this year. Its going to be over the top amazing, and its going to be my favorite of the weekend.

Yep. 100% leaves no room for anyone else to be better. And no one will be. I wish I loved enough of the lineup that they’d be like #3 or #4 with whatever corresponding JJ percentage. But since that didn’t happen, Top 1 in advance. Only thing for me is where does it end up for the year.

Does make sense. Would fall under category 1 (side project).

Hell yeah. 2013 was my first PL show and edm show. What a wonderful time. 100% Thursday or sunrise will be my fav set of the weekend. Main reason we got our tickets this year.
For the PL people, do you have a perfect 50/50 split on Thurs vs Sat if you had to separate them?
Not really. I figure Lazer Shark will probably do the visuals for both. I prefer The Other stage, but the bigness of the Thursday What set will probably compliment the show. Maybe a slight edge to the sunrise set because of the time of the show.
If I'm splitting them then off the cuff I would say something like 80/20 Thur/Sat. First ever What stage Thursday headliner. The rare electronic act appearance on the What period. Coming off of the comeback tour, with the rumors or anecdotes of them planning for an over the top main stage set, I've gotta go Thursday on What. Sunrise will be great too but I'm expecting the Thursday show to be one that gets looked back on as something really special in Bonnaroo history.
1. Not Yet On My Radar - 20%: In 2022 I left Black Tiger Sex Machine because they were having some sound issues. I stumbled into That Tent during Tobe Nwigwe, who had not even been on my anticipated list. Holy. Shit. One of the best shows I've ever seen and probably tied... maybe barely beating Tool as my best show of that Roo. Tobe > Tool > Gecs is legit one of my favorite 3 hours of music in my entire life. So anyway, I'm giving Roo the due respect of understanding and even hoping that I stumble into the set that sets the weekend on fire.
2. ISOXO - 18%: You're going to find basically every moshable act on my list. Moshing elevates a show immediately and to a large degree for me. If there is the right mosh pit at this show, and I'm on the right amount of whatever I'm on, etc, this show has the potential to be an all timer. This mfer is so goddamn good. I'm going to be completely brainless at this set. Pros: Nighttime. Friday so plenty of Roo still ahead (no 'almost over' sads). Friends that also like him. Nastiest drops. Cons: EDM crowd, most packed time in centeroo
3. GWAR - 15%: If you know me I think this kinda speaks for itself. Campy metal on Thursday night of Bonnaroo? Moshing in space cum? I mean Jesus Christ. This could really run away with it. Pros: Thursday LN. Moshing. Reckless abandon messiness. Cons: So early that I won't want it to be my fav.
4. Post Malone - 12%: Sleeper pick here but hear me out. Dozens of hits. Full on party at the What. The chills of everyone singing the words together under the big green BONNAROO sign. Also his shows have been looking great lately. Pros: Very fun pop stuff. Headliner production. Friday. Cons: the What is hard to find a good spot at sometimes
5. Jon Batiste - 10%: Best case scenario for this set is the upbeat fun of the Vulfpeck set combined with the sappy feel good happy tears energy of (insert your fav band that does this here). If it manages to do that and I'm in the right headspace, I could fall hard for this set. Pros: Sunset. Great musicians. Possible guests. Charismatic performer. Cons: What, could be hot.
6. Pretty Lights - 10%: (Thurs, set 1): Could run away with it because it's possible this will be the first big inforoo meetup. And again, PL is a huge unknown for me. But people rave. Pros: Thursday, Night, friends. Cons: High expectations
7. Fred Again.. - 9%: Emotionally he's set up well to be a Core Memory type of set. I think it's unlikely but still possible
8. Say She She - 4%: This will be a beautiful set no matter what, but inforoo meetup times could take it to set of the weekend. Maybe
9. The Garden - 4%: Moshability + clown makeup with cumaroo and Tony puts this in the running
10. Idles - 2% : I want to love them so bad. If I make it there and the mosh pit is right, who knows.
95% Pretty Lights. Both his sets Thursday and Saturday have the potential to be the highlight of my weekend. I'd say 60% Thursday, 35% Saturday.
I'd go as far to say, without PL I wouldn't be coming to Bonnaroo this year.
What's the other 5% go to?
Any act has the potential to be number 1, I'd say Gwar makes the most chance if PL disappoints. Post, JRAD, Shy Fx, Cage, Sean Paul all have a chance too.
Gwar: Always wanted to see them at a festival. 1am show really helps me get excited for them.
Post: For me the headliner I'm looking forward too the most besides PL. Don't expect much but that might be the reason this might actually become a highlight.
JRAD: Jam always has a chance to become a highlight for me. Happy this is in a tent.
Shy FX: On my wishlist for awhile now, time of this set is golden hour (8pm) so this might be more about the experience than the show itself.
Cage: Can't believe I've never seen them, although haven't listened to them recently. Was a fan years ago so I'm just going to see if I still like what they do.
Sean Paul: Not many active reggae artists on the festival circuit so this is a must see. Seen him before and it's always fun. But not expecting it to be more than that.
For the PL people, do you have a perfect 50/50 split on Thurs vs Sat if you had to separate them?
For me, I’m more excited for the Thursday show. Seeing him on the main stage will be super cool. Production and sound on The What are just next level imo. The sunrise set will make me super nostalgic since it was my first PL show but as Wrex can attest to Sunrise set is gonna kick my ass. I be sleepy yall. So at the moment 70% Main Stage and 30% sunrise. I do have a feeling that the sunrise set will feel more special driving home Monday than the Thursday set will.
Upcoming Shows: 11/8 - Goose @ The Andrew J. Brady Center 11/13 - Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros w/ The Wolfpack & The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra @ Cincinnati Music Hall 2/14 - Alan Walker @ The Fillmore Detroit 4/15 - Ben Folds w/ The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra @ Cincinnati Music Hall
It’s Alison Wonderland. I was really hoping for Staind.
welp could be worse
Pretty sure we saw her in 2018 on Sunday. It wasn’t terrible. A buddy wanted to see her. Could be better but def could be worse. Glad they announced it prior to the festival though.
