Friday: Thundercat, T-Pain, Mars Volta & Pretty Lights Saturday: Whyte Fang, BadBadNotGood, Sean Paul, Parcels
I’ve seen Alison/Alexandra over the years and though she doesn’t play that much that I like, I never really thought it was bad. I haven’t heard any of this alternate project, so I’m hoping I will like the stuff more than an Alison Wonderland show.
I rate the lineup a 3/10 for my tastes. No way I’d pay for this though. Checked with 2 of my kids. One (he’s been goiing since 13 or 14) said it was bottom 3 Roo lineup which I agree with. Daughter said kinda flubish but we will still have a good time. I also agree with this. What I’m missing is something big to be excited for. I love this version of Pretty Lights, but that’s really it if the bigger names. I haven’t listened to bubblegum since grade school. So acts like Carly Rae Jepsen are not acts I have even a little bit of interest in. I could see myself at Maggie hoping to dig it though. Seems like Bonnaroo is hitting that 4th festival wave now and looking to appeal to the people who it holds a lot of interest for - people born around or after the turn of the century. And you see that in some of the posts here. I’m glad many of those people are excited.
fwiw i'm 35 and i'm super excited lol. i am much happier today than i was a year ago on lineup day. also all my friends who are mid 30s are pretty pumped.
as far as Carly Rae Jepsen goes- she has an incredibly deep catalogue and is prob the most underrated pop artist today. she puts on a great show and her last two albums- The Loneliest Time and The Loveliest Time are gems. and she plays Call Me Maybe in the middle of the set so it's not the bubblegum pop of 12 years ago or whatever.
Maggie Rogers is great, i'm super excited for her set, esp with the teases of her new album i've seen.
i do think this lineup is missing one artist that makes it a "WOW" but i only ever had that feeling one time with a roo lineup and that was 2020. this is a very solid undercard that has a lot of exciting new artists.
Huh 2020 was probably one of the best Roo Lineups since 2016 lmao

Alright, just rode around town a bit and got asked if I had seen it and I said yes but asked them what they thought before I went and they love it. I didnt wanna ruin their popoff so I said, "yeah, Thursday's great." It's gonna sell better than I thought. One of my friends was talking about pawning a 43 inch Roku and I can't help but think it has something to do with all this.

Probably won't be back on the farm this year, but there's a lot of good stuff on the undercard this year. And a lot of unfamiliar names on top lines I need to familiarize myself with.
Really happy to see The Maine on here too. One of those bands that started off as a pretty 'meh' emo band in the early aughts and then became a really solid pop rock band 10 years later. Their new album was one of my favorites of 2023:
Geese one of the best bands on this lineup. They're closer to BCNR territory art rock/ post punk sound than St Paul.
3D Country is a relatively fun album and the lead singer really hams it up as a country crooner. HOWEVER, when I saw them last fall, I found out the guy can't do vibrato properly, so he just violently shakes his body during every sustained note. IDK why, but that really bothered me lol
just saw them a couple months ago at a small venue and it was such a delight. stage presence is great too, they had a lil costume change and everything. gonna be a happy good time.
I'm listening through their most recent album now and having a very fun time.

goddamn the evidence against Geese continues to stack up. terrible that anyone considers listening to them.

Now I want to see this singer have convulsions to make vibrato happen.

A friend from work (for context, she bought Safari at Coachella last year just to see Frank Ocean weekend 2) responded to my IG story of the lineup with "That is a pretty freaking solid lineup. I may go just for Saturday alone."
Sometimes I'm reminded how my musical tastes are far different from most.
one of my friends told me that friday is one of the single greatest festival days she’s ever seen in her life and then i broke her heart telling her it’s in tennessee with no single day passes

I saw some of the Whyte Fang set at this past Coachella and it was fantastic. It was extra epic because she was very pregnant at the time...but it left me wanting to see the set again. I think it will go over very well at Bon.
Such a strange lineup for me — and not in the “Bonnaroo is wEiRd” sense of things. Most of the top lines do nothing for me, and there’s no single “must see”/bucket list act for my tastes. But, I get the sense from everyone’s reaction that the deeper parts of the undercard are strong, and I’m warming up to it a lot the more I explore. Definitely a year where I go through the discovery process and it makes or breaks my excitement and desire to go. I’m always glad to have a bunch of new artists to try.
Glad we stopped buying presale so there’s no commitment to just make it work, but those price tiers are escalating quickly. We’ve never bought aftermarket tickets before, but that feels like the way to go.
GWAR will most likely be closing a tent. Supposedly Riot Fest always has trouble scheduling them each year because very few artist will agree to follow them due to the mess on the stage
